Depends on the case, I'd imagine. It fits fine with my Griffin iClear, but YMMV.

But, in the meantime, do you happen to have a link to any data on that? Curious.

I'm really just speaking from experience in owning 3 or 4 different batteries like this. And depending on your current charge, they will definitely fill your device to 100%.

Think about it though... the 3GS battery is what? Probably 1000mAh+? So if the "even out" thing were true, you would get nothing from this 500mAh backup unless you were below 50%.

ack154 wrote:I know it's only $5... but 500mAh is worthless except for emergencies. It'll give you maybe 25% from a full charge.

I had a different 500mAh for my 3GS and hated it.

I disagree. The new iPod touch has a battery with approx 930 mAh, and the third gen has a battery with just 789 mAh. 500 mAh is 53.8% (41.2%) and 63.4% (48.5%) respectively. (source: iFixit teardowns). The 2G I can't find an exact number for, but is about 750 mAh so it should get maybe a 67% (51.3%) boost.

The iPhone owners will find this relatively less useful. iPhone 4 users will get a 35.2% (26.9%) charge, iPhone 3Gs 41.0% (31.4%), iPhone 3G 43.5% (33.3%), and iPhone 2G I think was comparable battery size to the iPhone 4 so expect roughly the same (but let's be honest, if you still have a 2G your battery life will be much shorter - this thing will come in use).

I hope this comes in handy for prospective buyers. I'm in for one myself.

EDIT: percentages in () are more realistic (but ballpark) estimates of battery life. YMMV.

I have a similar one so I can only guess, mine works with a simple case (like a sleeve around the back only) but does not work with a significant case like the OtterBox. Although from the picture this looks like it mounts flush to the whole bottom of the phone/ipod, so if your case would interfere with it I would guess no.

Makes mucho sense!!! Seems after 3 days of wooting I have lost my logic....

Id still like to see it attached to a 75% charged phone and see if it takes it to 100, just to shut me up, hahaha

You would be lucky to get 300ma into the phone after charging loss.

You mean half an amp-hour? And yeah, there will be voltage conversion efficiency costs. The device probably boosts it to 5V to charge over USB. If we approximate 85% (or so) efficiency for boost, and maybe 90 (? - I don't remember average efficiencies for these chips, and it really depends on the type) for the buck down to 3.7V again, you're at an effective charge of about 382.5 mAh. I'll edit my above post.

Your percentages are purely theoretical though. You have to remember this is just some generic backup battery pack... so to get 100% of its capacity would be miraculous.

Good luck getting this stuff (or anything sold on Woot). I Placed an order and even after getting the confirmation of the purchase, I never received the product. Weeks after the fact, I sent an email to Customer Service and they said "sorry, your purchase didn't go through. We'll reimburse your money in a few business days". Terrible service.
