ordered vid camera Dec 13, received it Dec 21. I am in Balto MD. I am no video expert but am generally happy with this $40 camera. If it is not capturing 720p, then what resolution is it capturing?

I'm sooooo disappointed in Woot. Didn't they try this carpomatic camera out? The manufacturer knew it blew and dumped them on Woot. Sheesh and more sheesh.

I have the same problem. I ordered 2 of them and I haven't gotten the package yet. Should I be worried?

No, you should be happy!

I emailed rma@woot.com and got my email back

HOWEVER!

how come I didn't get a complementary free-shipping printable label that I've read about in other posts?

what makes me so different then anybody else.

extremely unhappy.

My point, exactly! Time to play fair, Woot.

Woot told me to p-off too with the free return. That makes me think I wouldn't need to return it if it wasn't utter garbage.

Woot's answer?

"Don't touch my junk."

Well I decided I better at least make sure the one I bought, during the launch, worked before I give it as a gift. I just filmed a quick minute outdoors in lowish light. The quality was not great, but the sound problems everyone has reported were not so bad with mine. Most notable was the very loud popping when pressing buttons. It'll do, I guess. Looks better than my RCA small wonder ever did.

This thing is crap. It did not work out of the box in 720p mode. Kept freezing upon hitting record. Don't buy!!!!!

Yeah, so I just received this as a Christmas present, but it didn't include a battery! It clearly states in the manual that a battery is supposed to be included.

Anybody else? What do I do?

Bought this for my 10-year-old daughter for Christmas. She was so excited when she opened it-- has been wanting a video camera for a while. It's not even two hours out of the box, and it is continually freezing/locking up, the couple of videos she has managed to capture are distorted and discolored. I understand "you get what you pay for", so I didn't expect it to be a high-quality piece of equipment, but it was brand new (not refurbished), so I did expect it to function and operate at a basic level as it should out of the box. Thanks for handing our daughter a nice dose of disappointment on Christmas.

I read all the hate, but I bought it anyway. It's a FORTY-DOLLAR VIDEO CAMERA. As such, I'm pretty satisfied. Does it take the beautiful video of my $800 JVC DV camera? Of course not, but the JVC DOESN'T FIT IN MY POCKET, so I seldom have it handy. Got a bunch of video from Christmas; not beautiful, but my dad is 80, so anything at all is great.

*ahem* actually, I came here to get recs for editing software. Pinnacle Studio seems to not recognize it, and the included software is, well, crap. Any recs for (pref open-source) minimal editing software that works with this thing would be great. Thanks, love you guys, Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays (your choice).

Lemme see...first Woot was offering free shipping back and an rma. Then they were just offering rma's and you pay the shipping. Now, no shipping, no rma and call Sylvania and let them handle it. Way to handle a botched launch that you obviously never tested and expect loyal customers to eat. Profits first!! Go Amazon!!!

What a piece of crap! The picture is dark and it has an annoying feedback sound on the video. I own an older model flip camera and was upgrading to this-yeah right! I'm headed out to get the HD flip after ruining my christmas videos with this. My first and last purchase from woot since I wont be able to return this paperweight!

I got this camera for my daughter for Christmas as an "upgrade" to her Fisher Price digital camera. After using it for a while I realized that that Fisher Price camera that I bought last year for $30 was a much better quality product. I've never felt so scammed in my life. I can't get the camera to communicate with any of our 3 PCs to upload footage or pictures. It just locks up. The buttons on the back stick. The battery life is less than 15 minutes on a full charge. I expected a cheap product, but this is just shameful.

For $40 what was everyone expecting.... ?

I have to admit that I was slightly disappointed. Yes, it would have been rad if it had amazing picture and sound. It doesn't ..but oh well... at least it does not come with the burn of loosing a considerable amount of money. You must have thought for at least a second that it was going to suck. "Oh but what if it doesn't and we score" You gambled. You lost....or rather...you broke even. Cause as much as you could gripe about its poor image and sound.. you KNOW there is something useful/cool you can do with it...

tie to balloon and send to the sky.

make avant-garde film. win award. brag how you used useless camera.

let your 8 year old nephew do Sledcam2011 down Mt. Steep-Hill without you freaking out about looking your precious [smartphone] in the snow.

You'll figure it out. Cause you're a gambler. ;)

I'm afraid your argument fails for all of us whose cameras either arrived incomplete or defective and are now forced to suffer the loss or pay more for replacements.

I purchased this camera for my mother last monday. She needed this to record some legal proceedings. We received the box on Friday all nicely packaged and sealed but with no camera inside!!

The cables were there, the instruction manual was there too, but there was an empty slot for where the camera was supposed to be.

I sent an email to woot explaining the issue on Saturday as I was quite upset. This was needed before Wednesday.

Monday afternoon I get a reply:

"Sorry that the camera was missing from the package. We'll send a replacement and expedite the shipping. You'll get an email with tracking when it ships.

Zach"

There has been nothing new since. I’m strongly contemplating a charge-back.

update:Tuesday 1:59pm

It can take a few business days to process and ship out your order. You should receive an email with tracking once it ships.

Well, still waiting for the refund to find out if they'll refund the 5 bucks shipping too. But I doubt it. Buy junk, pay to send junk back. Makes you kind of leery about buying anything from them anymore. This has been un-woot like as well as un-amazon like.

I understand woot got royally sca rewed on this too but it's all about customer service as well. Hopefully we'll at least get some kind of neat coupon for future purchase. That is... if we ever decide to buy woot again. I'm certainly going to pretty wary of any electronics offered.

Reporting, yet another, defective unit...*sigh*...audio has the 'buzz' that all the buzz is about.

But, so far, Woot has been very professional in handling the RMA request. They have promised a replacement unit, but no ship date.

They have sent me a postage-paid return label!

Will follow up with how this all shakes out.

Well mine seems to be working fine with a new Kingston class 4 SDHC card, but yes the quality sucks. It is a $40 camera, not a deal at all. My ipod touch takes far better video. I could deal with the video quality if the file sizes weren't so huge! How come no one has commented on this. A one minute video takes 120 megs. So I'm going to fill a CD in 5 minutes????!!! Thats ridiculous. Anyone know of an easy way to convert the video to mpeg4 or something? Horrible. All this thing does is waste memory. EDIT: VLC does conversion and it's free. I scaled at .5 and converted to h264 with aac audio. Now it's barely 5 megs down from 120 megs. And I can hardly tell the difference!

Ordered 3 of these for Christmas, but only got 2 of them. Just got the 3rd one yesterday, January 4. Needless to say, I still haven't had Christmas with my grandkids yet because I have been waiting for the purple one to come, which is for my Granddaughter.

Since none of these camcorders I bought were for me and haven't been opened yet, I can't comment on the quality. But wasn't the original price on these $129.99? I really do hope they are decent enough for my 9 and 10 year old grandkids.

Word of warning: Don't order anything from these guys the week of Christmas. They don't include packing lists, so they have no idea if they properly filled your order or not. They should have sent that missing purple camcorder to me in an overnight package to arrive on Christmas Eve. That would have been the RIGHT thing to do. But then, this company is run by a couple of sarcastic young guys who have nothing better to do with their time than to not care about potentially good customers. I'm pretty sure I'll never order anything from these guys again.

Woot is no longer RUN by them. Amazon took it over. The fault you have is with AMAZON. The 2 sarcastic guys would have overnited them.... Next

You can Woot! if you want to, you can leave Amazon behind, because if you don't buy the Woot! from the real Woot!, then you're, no friend of mine. Say we can Woot!, we can Woot!, they're doing it from home to home.

I got an RMA from woot and just sent them off. People are dumb, expecting answers on xmas... spastic if you ask me. Oh btw 3 duds... Absolute junk, not worth it. I still have my xbox360 from the sale long ago... granted it rrod, I just emailed microsoft and they took care of it... I have a warranty until 2012 on it.... yay... that is the only other so called dud on woot besides the gustbusters... which were broken and junk..So 2 duds out of a possible 3 and woot or someone came through on all of them. I can't complain. just wish I had gotten the 250gb hdd... darn...

Bought one for Christmas and it came with no battery. Here it is Jan 6th and I have yet to get the issue resolved. 31 JAN 2011 - UPDATE...
I did RMA 1st unit back to Woot. Received another unit within 2 weeks. New unit did not have audio issues, no, this one had video problems. Instead of attempting to get Woot to replace again, went thru DigitalGadgets. They sent a prepaid label and offered up a better/newer model. Was about a 2 week turn-around. So far, no problems with the newer model. CUDOS to DigitalGadgets!!!
