i dont get it.

i'm not buying any, but i'm sure others want to know

Because the International/European warranty isn't good inside the US, I believe. Only in certain countries.

EDIT: Actually I just found out that Xbox accessories only have a 90 day warranty. So that answers that.

I just ordered two of these and have never ordered from woot before. Can anyone tell me if the odds are pretty good that these items are actually in stock at this low of a price?. Also, can you tell me how long shipping usually takes?
Thanks

No offense, but this is incorrect.

You can take it out of the casing and put it into the new Slim. They have youtube videos and instructions on how to do this. It will be "loose" in the Slim's hard drive bay so either buy a case off of Dealextreme or "customize" it so it doesn't move around.

Warranty will be voided on the HARD DRIVE ONLY. Do so at your own risk. etc etc.

YES, YES, YES! Thank you Woot! You just made my Christmas.
I was going to use my Christmas money to buy one of these at normal price. You just saved me a ton of money. Now to buy more games.

This is only for the previous Xbox 360 models, will not work with the slim model.

Yes if your order went thru, your odds are almost 100% you will get what you ordered. Rarely there is a problem and you dont. As far as shipping time, it varies. I have experienced 1-3 weeks living in PA. but as few as 5 days. I'm not expecting by Christmas but It would be nice.

Yes you can the included cable is for that purpose.

This is a VERY good price Best Buy sells this same product for $130. Not much better price on Amazon.

THIS DRIVE WILL NOT WORK WITH THE NEW XBox 360

I would like to point out that one only needs to pay attention to the instructions talking about taking the drive apart. People won't need to run any programs to lock/unlock the hard drive to get it to run. All that is needed is to physically remove the hard drive.

No, unless the HD is the problem, which is highly unlikely. I've only heard maybe 3 cases of bad harddrives.
The RROD is caused by the graphic chip separating from the board.

Or it could be because MS has a whole sh*tload of these drives sitting in its warehouses, so somebody decided to unload them through woot.com at a special low price WITHOUT a manufacturer's warranty to completely write off the inventory on MS' books (no factory warranty means no costs later due to warranty service requests.)

Some companies just eat the cost of the unsold product and just destroy/bury the whole lot (read about the Atari 2600 ET Game Cartridges), luckily for us MS decided to throw us cheap ass "won't buy overpriced MS hard-drives at over 3x the bare drive price" pre-slim Xbox360 owners a bone.

Woot.com then decided to offer a 90-day warranty themselves (maybe not out of the goodness of their hearts, but maybe because of US consumer laws, but I'll go with "out of woot's desire to keep their customers happy" since I worship on the alter of "woot" and gladly drink their Koolaid.) for their loyal customers.

Only 16gb per storage device. I would have a TON of USB and SD cards laying around.

That is, they took a laptop hard drive and did all the dirty work to make it compatible with a 360. You can do this process yourself, but it requires the special cable, some software, and the know-how. Also, you won't get any kind of warranty with the ones on eBay.

These, however, are the "real thing." If you are on the edge because of cheaper knock offs on eBay, I would bite Woot's offering.

Also - let me tell you form first hand experience, the cheap ones from China aren't partitioned correctly, so you lose the backwards compatibility ability to play original xbox games.

Yes, but you'll have to disasseble the case and plug it in to the slot on the slim. You should also use some foam block to keep it stable as it will be narrower than the hole for the hard drive.

Yes, you can. You WILL have to remove the case but the connector is the same. You should insert some foam blocks to keep it stable as the hole is larger than the "un-cased" hard drive. It does work perfectly well. See youtube for dozens and dozens and ....of examples.

To be sure if it's real or not, look at the stickers on the bottom of the drive. They should look like the one in the WOOT! pic. the big one and the holographic one.
the knockoffs have some weird stickers that just say "XBOX 360 250gb hd" or something.

M$ now gives you the option to install your games right on the hd so they load faster and you don't hear a disc spinning. You still need the original disc in the drive just to prove you own the game. I never tried it before since I only had a 20gb but I will now!

This is very tempting considering you can take it apart and connect the 2.5" drive inside directly to the SATA port on the new 360S consoles.

tjrenegade wrote:THIS DRIVE WILL NOT WORK WITH THE NEW XBox 360

I'll agree that this is an awesome price (in for 1!) but actually...

***THE DRIVE WILL WORK FOR 360 AND NEW 360-S***

No, not right out of the box, but if you do what has been mentioned here (remove the drive from the casing and plug in to new 360-S), it WILL work. You don't have to open the 360-S or do anything to void the warranty--the drive slot is accessible from the outside of it, with a clip-on door.

It WORKS because the hard drive is pre-loaded with firmware that only the Xbox 360 and 360-S recognize i.e. it is not for general computing use). The firmware, which basically tells the drive how to work and communicate, is designed only for a specific model of a specific manufacturer's hard drive (Western Digital Blue Scorpio, not sure of 250GB hdd model#). Although it is 'just' a 2.5" SATA drive, it, unlike any other regular 2.5" HDD on the market, has the proper firmware.

Yes, you 'could' do this yourself by buying the EXACT correct model# hdd, then use a pc to replace the hdd's firmware with 360 firmware (have to find it online), then boot it into DOS, and then put your old xbox hard drive's data on it; i.e. if you have 20GB now, it will take up 20GB on the drive, because this drive does not have any of the xbox 360/360-S software on it, so you are adding it...and then it 'should' work for you. Although home-mades and hong-kong specials alike, tend to have issues with using the entire drive (the cheap asian ones see the 250GB as a 120GB drive). And once you've wasted all the time, money, and effort to do all this, you'll realize that it would've been cheaper and easier to just buy this at woot!

This official xbox hdd being woot'd already has the proper firmware and software installed.

MS does some jolly things, but writing entirely new software and firmware for no real gain, is counter-intuitive if you understand computers...or if you just understand business.

The ONLY thing I am not sure of, is if the 360-S Specific Drives (new drives in new systems) are a faster speed than this one (5400rpm)...even if they are, it probably would not be noticeable to you.

I jumped on this b/c you simply WILL NOT FIND THIS CHEAPER, OR EVEN ANYWHERE NEAR THIS PRICE!.

WOOT!

Good deal...I've had a 20gb for years and constantly have to delete content to fit new demos that my son wants to download. I've refused to spend the retail price on one of these pretty much out of sheer principality; but this...this works. In for one.

jlf278

quality posts: 1 Private Messages jlf278

For those thinking that eBay or amazon 3rd party sellers are offering comparable or better deals on this drive - THEY ARE NOT. I have been looking to upgrade my 20gb xbox hdd for over a year and the best deal I had seen on an actual Microsoft brand 250 hdd has been $120. The reason to get a genuine microsoft hdd is that it comes with a transfer cable, is correctly formatted and has a warranty. I've heard a lot of headache stories about buying fake drives. This is one of the best deals I've ever seen on woot.

If you have the red rings of death, this won't help, though you can remove your current hdd just to make absolutely sure. The RRoD are usually caused by internal hardware overheating.
