Can I put this in to my 4GB xbox kinect?

EDIT: I am dumb, and was expecting this magic door to be on the top of the unit. It is actually on the bottom. So with the hack, this can be installed on to the new shiny xbox 360s and on the new matte kinect 360s.

Yup you can. Same machine with different hard drives in them and the kinect is only a peripheral for the 360 itself. The hard drive isn't going to touch or effect the kinect. You're just getting more memory for the system.

I know this isn't relevant to the 250Gb hard drive but, how do i change my avatar? They offer only like 4 that aren't really the kind i'm looking for. Even the FB option isnt working! Is it possible to load my own picture?

I'm really liking this deal. I got my 360 at launch w/ a 20g HD. Between a few live arcade games and all the space rock band 1-3 can take up... this is an amazing deal.

I'm all for one. Shipping overnight is a clincher.

azrag228 wrote:I currently have a refurbed Xbox 360 that isn't backwards compatible , I am assuming because of the refurbed hard drive, I am wondering if this new hard drive is backwards compatible.

Usually when they refurb a unit, you hang onto the hard drive and just send in the console. They make the necessary fixes and repack it as a refurb (you don't always get your own console back, which is why you hang onto the drive and any after-market faceplates and accessories).

If you're having problems with backwards compatibility, first check which game you're trying (because compatibility is limited, not 100%). After that, it may be an OS/Dash version issue.

Or it might just be Microsoft taking you from behind, laughing.

Looking at my woot buying history for 2010 is sort of funny. I bought something on 3-26, 6-21, 9-21, and now 12-22. Guess I am pretty regular. Thanks woot for the good deals!

YES YOU CAN!!!

You can put WHATEVER YOU WANT on the thumb-drives, flash-sticks, SD-Card with USB adapter, etc. As long as they are maximum 16GB (minimum 2GB), AND pass the data integrity test that xbox runs before it formats it.

I've had one of 2 identical flash drives fail this test (no way around out), but it operates perfectly for computer use. I replaced that one with a 16GB Micro-SDCard from an old phone of mine, and stuck it in a micro-SD-to-USB adapter (Kingston makes a tiny one that is barely bigger than the micro-SD)...that one is now working fine.

I have noticed sometimes that when you download (not load from disc) it doesn't give you the opportunity to change the drive...however, once it is downloaded, you can move it to whatever attached drive you want through Xbox's regular menu's (My Xbox->System Settings->Memory).

This 250GB drive solves all of those problems.

Absolutely, once you take it out of its housing its just a regular Sata HD. I did this with my Slim, already had the 120gb Elite HD no point to not get the $199 4gb slim and just insert my old HD into it. Worked like a charm, just a little difficult sliding it in correctly

I intend to pull the SATA drive out of the housing and put it in my PS3.

---FOR 360 OWNERS (but applies to 360-S too_---
+ Our original 360's are freakin' loud, and that drive spinning constantly is the root cause of the noise, and of wear on the entire optical drive assembly (one cause of the red ring of death). By loading any of your existing games onto the HDD, you will ELIMINATE THE NOISE COMPLETELY. you'll still hear the whir of the cooling fans running, but that's it.

+ By loading the game, you will also speed up any wait times (next level, cut-scenes, etc.)
(Bear in mind, you have to have your original game disc in the 360/360-S in order to play...it's by design so people don't just pass around a disc for everyone to load.)

+ You can download FULL games from the Xbox Marketplace--not just "Arcade" games, but the regular, full games you would buy on a disc at the store. They don't have every game ever made available (give em' time), but it is part of the future plans for gaming and you'll see more and more of it. (Obviously with downloaded games, you do NOT need an original disc to play them).

rileyper wrote:the hdd will work on a laptop

Rileyper, it wouldn't, because Xbox hard drives are specifically low-level formatted for the Xbox via firmware encoding. You could use the drive, but it would require illegal firmware hacking to do so. Also, Xbox Hard Drives use the FAT 32 file system, so to use it with Windows would make life a little difficult, as you will need NTFS on the drive instead.

Trust me, I'm an IT professional at a large university, I work with hard drives all the time.

Sorry if this question has been asked already. I'm an avid 360 gamer and this is definitely a deal I'm considering jumping on.

I'm currently using the 20 GB HD that comes with the 360 Pro. I'm running out of space because i've downloaded a lot of music for RB3. However, a major question in my mind is the convenience of getting my current data over to the new HD.

For my gamertag info, I expect recovering my gamertag to the new HD will do just fine, but what about all saved data from other games (characters, careers, RB music, etc.)? Anyone have experience with this before?

Only if you break open the case and take the actual HDD out. But then why would you want to get a 250GB for $50 for your laptop when you could purchase a 700gb laptop hdd for about the same price.
