Sweet, I finally got one! I wasn't very hopeful once the servers crashed. Perhaps having 50 mb internet connection helped?

bryte wrote:That's not really how the internet works.

The way client/server technology works is that servers have a passive socket with an event listener listening for communications (interrupts) from the client. Once a request is received an active socket is opened on a defined port for all communications. These communications are messages that are divided up into packets that are sent from the client and then reassembled by the server and processed. The server then does the same.

A problem arises when you have more packets sent to a port than can be immediately processed. This results in a backup of packets at the port waiting to be processed, which in turn, causes some packet to be lost. The server , not receiving all the packets for a message, is unable to recompile a complete message so after a period of time it terminates its connection with the client ("timing out").

In fact, an intentional attempt to keep the server waiting for message that can not be reassembled without the ability to terminate the connection is a denial of service attack.

Yeah...me too. I tried to get in with four different devices, but not one of them was able to the buy page. In fact most couldn't even load the "I want one page. Sadly, no Christmas Bag of Coal for me. It probably wouldn't have worked with my Mac anyway!

Every creature was stirring, I was clicking my mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
Only I was nestled all snug in their bed,
While visions of paper bags danc'd in my head,
And Mama in her 'kerchief, and I buying my crap,
Had just settled our brains for a long wait for my crap —
When out on the internet there arose such a clatter,
It was already quarter past but it didn't seem to matter.
Away to the "I Want One!" I flew like a flash,
I clicked on that button and hoped the page would refresh.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
The confirmation page, i no longer had fear.
Down the driveway the mailman came with a bound:
He was dress'd all in fur, from his head to his feet,
And he carried some mace just to fend off the mutts;
He handed me the package then made a hasty retreat.
And into the box i quite eagerly cut.
My eyes — how they twinkled! I couldn't wait to see,
The three items in this box, what could they possibly be;
Could it be a kindle book reader from Amazon,
or perhaps the bluray edition of Tron.
Instead the first item I received in the mail,
was a Terraillon Wall-Mount Glass/Silver Kitchen Scale.
Although i was hoping for a 40" LCD,
Instead from the box flew a screaming monkey.
Dispute know that i would not likely get nice things,
I was dismayed that the third item was Todd's Dirt Seasonings.
I had learned my lesson and like Ceasar Augustus I made a decree,
That henceforth I would never buy another Bag of Coal.
I wasted an hour of pay and five weeks waiting for SmartPost,
And my cr*p didn't even come al teh way from the other Coast.
To me, this bag was plain and simple a blight, despite this
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

Excellent work!!! Deserves a favorite present!

Yea this will by my first Christmas Bag of Coal. I was at my mother-in-laws and they are in the middle of nowhere so they can only get satellite.

I from there remote into my computer at home on a FiOS and was able to get one. The total load time took about 20 min and the first indicator I got was PayPal sending me a receipt as Woot Crashed once I pressed the final purchase button.

Now time to go to sleep and dream of a Bag of Coal heading my way.

Guess I'm tossing in my hat here too.
I did get one. But I was certainly late to the party. I was playing A Link to the Past on the Wii's Virtual Console, and looked at my clock to see 10:04 (California), so I rush upstairs to my computer and give it a shot. Oops, not logged in. While waiting for it to log in, I checked my new phone, and was already logged in there. Then it just.. went through. I was in disbelief for a bit until I checked my email box a bit later.

Anyways, I'm hoping there'll still be happy posts coming up, rather than the bitter ones I've been seeing. 'tis the season for happy jolly times, y'dig? There's always next time.
