i suppose you may have used up all of your vacation/leave time in the past year, but have you considered traveling? seems like some of the wooters with kids now away at college or whatever could organize a get-together.

Hey all. Kids were pretty good, surprisingly. Apparently, the break wasn't so long that they forgot how to handle lunch rules.

Meeting with boss was good. Stuff working again. I get to translate matlab code into perl! Yay me! (sarcasm).

Ver1 didn't have a "beginning" reader for her homework she had a chapter book so I made her read the first chapter and tell me who the characters are, I hope that works for her homework assignment.

I'm not sure about Korea, but from Vietnam on, you don't see nearly as many of those guys joining the VFW or American Legion.

http://www.kansas.com/2011/01/03/1656744/group-reaches-out-to-younger-vets.html

Shunning Vietnam vets

Korean and Vietnam veterans make up the vast majority of VFW members. But the organization might have a bigger slice of Vietnam vets today, if the VFW had been receptive to them years ago.

"The VFWs all over the country at the time kind of shunned the Vietnam veterans," said Steve McDonald, who is in charge of house rules at the VFW post in Derby.

McDonald is a Vietnam vet, who served as a door gunner on Huey helicopters. When he walked into the Derby VFW shortly after returning in 1970, he was told, "Vietnam was just a police action."

"They said I was more than welcome to come in and have a drink but they didn't care to sign me up," McDonald said.

There was a new commander at that post 10 years later, one whose son was a Vietnam vet. McDonald and other Vietnam vets got a better reception.

"That was a bad deal," McDonald said of the early treatment by the VFW. "It hurt the VFW for a long time. I know of a few who won't come back, but there are some who do.

"I tell anyone now that if you were shot at once, you are welcome here."
