8gb is duable if you do not need your whole itunes library on your itouch. If you plan to hold movies, apps, and music then you definitely need more than 8gb.

Sorry Woot, but Amazon has a year Apple Warranty for $15 more for a new one.

I've been pondering a touch for a while, but still not there yet...
After seeing all of the tablets teased at CES I think its worth waiting a bit longer.

I heard the touch and iphones that Apple calls refurbs are new but come in plain packaging or something to that effect. The so called refurbs are just extras that Apple have for warranty replacements. Basically they knock a few bucks off them and in return get more sales and then more "suckers" have to download iTunes and then Apple makes more $$ from that.
Most returned or broken Itouch's would be noticeably scratched up on the back so I doubt Apple is going to sort through them and look for the clean ones then pay somebody to fix them when they can make em in China for $10?

I bought a 4th gen 8gb from Amazon before xmas for $205 with a $25 gift card so this is no deal but its about as cheap as your going to find a new one but the warranty SUCKS.

/personal experience

I dropped a coworkers (they left it buried under papers and I didn't know it was attached to the radio I was moving) from about 3 feet and the front glass shattered. I have dropped other mp3 players and cell phones from greater heights without a scratch. I second that Apples form over function philosophy means you HAVE to have this in a case (which kinda ruins the whole thinness/design thing).

How is this a deal? I bought a 16GB iPhone 4 for $200, brand new. What a crumby deal.

Regarding the question of whether 8 GB is enough, I find it's OK. I juggle songs and apps on and off it as the fancy or need strikes me. There are a few really great games that take a lot of storage; if you really wanted to play those, I'd definitely go with a higher capacity.

The one good thing for me about having the limited capacity of 8 GB is that I've been able to stop myself from going crazy buying apps (or even downloading free apps) on the App Store™. I'm more careful about reading the reviews before I buy/download. And then I'll test apps to see what I like best or whether it's worth it to spring for the paid version.

This might sound like a big hassle, but it's really not.

Whatever capacity you get, you should really get one of these, unless you're really into tinkering and tweaking. In that case, by all means get an android. I think android is a rad OS for the tinkerers.

I got mine during the Amazon Black Friday sale. It was $199 plus a $25 Amazon gift card, which became someone's Xmas present. $175 was too good a deal to pass up. I have no regrets about splurging on myself for this wonderful little gadget.

You're paying more for your iPhone than $200, you just don't realize it. The additional cost is invisibly spread out over the contract. Try terminating early and see how much your iPhone really costs.

As far as this product goes 8GB isn't that much space (I'm using 12 on my zune audiobooks, podcasts, and a little music). I guess it would be OK if just used it as a gaming device, but as others have said its not that good of a refurb deal.

Well, I have a 32gb iPhone 4 and it's full. 5400 songs, around 3gb of apps, plus tens of thousands of e-mails as well as the same number-ish of texts, around a thousand pictures. The 32gb and 64gb are really for people with massive collections of music and apps and who are using it as a primary device. However, I would caution against the 8gb. With the current system software you really only get 6.5gb. The newest gen is absolutely a must, but hold out until you can afford a 32gb (which I believe is the next step up, though it may be the 16gb). You'll be sorry if you get an 8gb.

I sell these in a store. 8GB is plenty for most users. You can't go through that much audio/video content on a single battery charge. It's a good deal, would be a terrific deal if it is an Apple Refurb with new case, battery, headphones & 1 Year Apple Warranty. Get the extended warranty & Belkin case.

Like others have said - it depends! I have an Android phone, a regular old iPod, and an 8gb iPod Touch and I use them all for different things.

I primarily use the Touch for apps and games, with some music. But by no means my entire iTunes library - that's on my old iPod with much more memory. I probably have 800 or so songs on my Touch which I can rotate as needed. I prefer not to put music on my phone as it really slows things down. So iPod for music, iTouch for some music, games, apps, phone for on the go connectivity, texts, calls, Facebook etc.

I'd be interested to know how many people saw this and thought to themselves, "Oh, so it's not called an iTouch?"

Ask yourself this: How much of your music library do you really listen to?

My music library is 30gb+, I sync just a few select playlists and an artist or two. If you really want to you could also sync the "recently added" and "most played" magic playlists as well.

The size argument isn't just limited to Ipods, I got a fuze awhile back from woot and threw in an microSD card for a total of 8GB and I was fine.

It really depends on what you'll be using it for. I picked up an iPod Touch 4 at launch - it was my first Apple purchase. It was alright. I didn't use it for toting my music around. I have a Creative PMP for that. No, I used the iPod for mobile media streaming. Once Netflix became official, I couldn't resist. I don't have it now though. It got stolen I'd pick up another one but my interests have shifted to the plethora of tablet devices expected to come out in the coming months.

Sorry, that logic doesn't work. The iPhone is not an iPod; the rest of the things you mentioned all have the word "iPod" as the first word of the products' names: iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano, iPod Classic, iPod Touch. See?

I think what confuses the situation is that the iPod Touch and the iPhone are SO similar in form and function that the iPod Touch seems more like an iPhone-without-the-phone than an iPod.

I have the 8gb and am deeply in love with it, but I would definitely go for a 16gb. My music collection isn't all that large, and yet I barely have space for a 5 or 6 apps in addition to the ones that come standard, which is nowhere near enough. I find myself having to sacrifice music for apps, or vice versa. 64gb might be overkill but the 16gb is absolutely worth the extra $

I had a 32gb 2nd generation and it was completely full. I upgraded to a current generation 64gb and I'm down to 20gb free. If you have a lot of music, play a lot of games and want a lot of apps, 64gb is definitely not overkill. I would almost fill up 8gb with nothing but apps!

Whether or not 8gb is plenty of storage for most users, its pretty mind blowing that its 2011 and 8gb mp3 players are still being sold, even more mind blowing that someone would pay $200 for 8 refurbished gbs just to play paper toss.

Unfortunately Clear has discontinued making the iSpot but will still sell whatever they have in stock if you can find it. It's made specifically for pairing with Apple products only but was easily hacked to work with non-Apple products. I believe other companies have similar mifi or personal wifi hotspots available but probably not at such a good deal.

I have a 2nd Gen 8 GB Touch and the 8 GB is livable. I like that it forces me to clean up the memory every now and then so I get some new stuff on and unused stuff off. I keep a nice mix of apps and music on it. Video will kill it pretty quick though, I usually don't keep any videos on it.

I also have an Apple refurb (an iMac) that's worked flawlessly for two years.

If I had the money I'd be upgrading to this Touch in no time.

I had the first gen Touch and the 8 gig was a lot for me. It was stolen this summer. I was waiting and when I heard that the Touch was finally going to come with a camera I jumped on the 32 gig.

I had been eyeing Walmart as they have some crazy low price warranties. They also sell the Touch at a lower price than Apple and at Walmart.com with bundles and with free shipping to the store of your choice.

I got the 32 gig with some crappy accessory kit (free or $1(forget)) and a great little portable Philips speaker (for like $5)... I was going to buy the Walmart warranty at the store but when they checked it out they found out that I could get it online for 3 years/$28 compared to store 2yr/$20. I went overboard and did buy the AppleCare from another source (Cost Central) as their price was pretty cheap too. ***when looking for best AppleCare prices online check for Apple Store "Part number" as some shops sell older warranties!!!

The current gen Touch is pretty nice and having the 32 gig assures you will have enough space to play with all the new bells and whistles. The video/camera is not of the same quality as the iPhone but is decent enough. The processor is pretty speedy and there are a lot fewer problems with formats of video, music, pics, etc. There are tons of free games to play with and toss off the list goes on and on...

I think you will enjoy whatever Touch you get!

I have had a 32gb (the edition right before facetime (dammit)). I've had it for 1 year. I use it everyday, and that is not an exaggeration. I STILL have 3gb of space on my iPod. I have over 3 thousand songs, a Harry Potter movie, 40+ episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, thousands of pictures from my picture file, and 144 apps. I'd say that the 64gb is a bit of overkill and I would say that the 8gb is just too small. They did away with the 16gb a couple years ago, which would have been perfect for a lot of people. The only reccomendation I would have is to just get the iPhone, because I have to carry both my phone and iTouch everywhere. But if the iPhone is not an option, the iTouch really is the next best thing.

Which way did it land (face down, back down, on an edge)? What kind of floor did it hit (carpet, concrete, tile, wood)? I've dropped my gen 3 a couple of times without issue, but always on carpet and usually landing back down.

8GB will give you room for about 2,500 songs. As for a sweet spot, well, the more capacity, the cheaper the price per gig, but you just don't need any more than 8.
