I am no expert on cameras but I do use a handful of them to take photos & video of our 20month old. The little point n shoots can't compete with a full size DSLR or HD Camcorder which we use primarly around the home or big events away from home. We recently purchased Panasonic TS2 for active go anywhere photos and I really love just about everything on the camera except lack of lense cover which makes this durable shock proof, water proof camera vunerable to scratches if you throw it in your pocket or purse with keys about. So loving the easy to use menu's I bought the cheap FP1 just last week and I can tell you I really like them for cheap point n shoots. My father just picked up a nicer model like in the link and it blows away his Canon Advanced P&S. Granted we are both novices and shoot primarly in auto mode. The video qaulity for the point n shoot is great cost wise compared to my Sony HD camcorder that cost $1300.

I wouldn't get to hung up on the megapixel size. I would ideally like a lower megapixel since the sensor/lense is a big part of the quality not just the badges megapixel. My Nikon D40 (6mp) does a much better job then my 14mp P&S which of course a totally different products.

Even though I don't like the layout of my Sony camcorder the reason I picked it over a Canon model that actually looked a little sharper in video quality was the EXMOR sensor which easily handles indoors lower light situations MUCH better then anything I have ever seen. You might look into the Sony point n shoots that have this same sensor for good indoor shooting. Trust me it is worth it to save those memory's. If you get something that can't shoot low light very well you will be left to outdoor shooting which is not always the case for toddlers. Even though we didn't want to spend so much on our camcorder we are already glad we did. The point n shoot models I think are 200-300 range with the EXMOR sensor. Forgive the grammer, quick response, little edit.

Not sure if it is ok to link other retailers or not but this is where I just bought my cheapy FP1 and they were great , even price matched. Good athorized reseller.

OK, these are the SAME review. Fair enough, the review samples had quality problems, but one of these is a word-for-word copy of the other. And you could hyperlink them!

Reply to anohter Q.. my Casio chargers have all been able to use 240V too. It's standard nowadays.

I bought a 10.1MP Exilim about 3-4 years ago. It's taken a lot of abuse and I think it's starting to go screwy on me a little bit. Still takes wonderful pix but it's lately started to be a little stubborn to turn on. Either way, I think it is a wonderful camera!

It has fast and accurate center focusing, decent manual controls (I can capture beautiful ambient light and trails while taking night club shots), and the pictures just come out wonderful for a little pocket cam. As a former photography student, I have been very impressed by this little camera.

I wish I had the money on hand to buy this. It is an exceptional deal. It's times like these I wish I still had a credit card. -_-

I wouldn't be surprised if this deal does not last 5 hours.

Yeah. That one has a longer wideangle.. not sure eactly but looks like a 38mm equiv from guesswork. Look at the picture of the front lens and see the mm it says and find a conversion table for the size of CCD it has. Your turn to do some work!
Also the Optio I bought from woot a while back broke pretty quickly and was harder to use than a Casio. Had a pretty neat picture stitch feature though, and a wide angle like this one, so it wasn't really the same thing.

the best camera you will buy for less than $100. this is also the best price i've seen. paid $79 for mine at a major retailer before christmas. i have the original model of this camera that is 6 years old and i'm still using it. images are crisp and battery life is long. you won't be sorry if you buy this camera.

If the battery dies while you're out, you're screwed. It's nice when cameras have AAA or AA batteries that you can easily replace or buy rechargeable versions of.

The battery will last for several hundred shots. I've never had it run down on me. It lasts far longer than a pair of AA batteries, and it also allows for a smaller camera. I'd never buy a camera that didn't have it's own battery.

It's a Casio. Doubt if it is made by them, probably a Chinese me-to camera with their brad slapped on.

I never understand why there's so much anti-China junk posted. Even if you don't understand the modern business world- your EYE-BALLS should tell you EVERYTHING is "Made in China". China didn't put a gun to their head, western corporations are the one's flooding Chinese factories with their orders!!!

China provides workers at slave wages- figuratively AND literally, and western corporation love that. Apple has products made in China, but Apple has always demanded a QUALITY product, no matter where it's made. Then again, I don't think they care about all the workers committing suicide at their contractor's plants, except for the bad publicity.

So if you wanna knock China- they have a laundry list of stuff for you to chose from.

Jump on the back of the company that ordered dodo products and sold you gift wrapped kaka.

Just saying...

I have this camera - got it on Amazon.com. This is a great price. I love this camera - very easy to use, nice zoom, battery stays charged a long time - and it recharges super fast. The YouTube sticker comes off easily. It's a small camera and easy to stick in your pocket. I have a Mac and it's great w/iPhoto. What the heck do you want for under $100? This is a great price people - if you really want t a camera, you can't get much better than this for the price. I wish I had the pink - might make it easier to find than black.

$79 for an HD camera from Casio? This is almost at the disposable price point. My 4 year old point and shoot died in New Orleans last month. I paid about $229 for a 8 mega pixel. Time to get a new one. I've been very impressed with the quality of CASIO cameras and for the price you can't beat them. It was a no brainer.

This is a great camera. I got the 12 MP version for Christmas for around $100, at Target, so this is a great deal. It takes great still photos and great videos too. Not only that, but our last few cameras have been Exilims. We lost the first one because our house was robbed, and we'd had our second for 2+ years when we decided to upgrade at Christmas. Casio makes a great camera.

It is pretty good audio, I have had this camera (older version) for three years now, and before that I had a version for a few years but upgraded, and I am thinking about upgrading again. This is a perfect compact do it all camera, and I have never been happier. I have some nikons I use for more professional activities but this thing is always in my back pocket.

I have this camera and it is handy for leaving it in my laptop bag to be used occasionally when something better than phone camera is needed. However it recently refused to start showing the dreaded 'lens error' message. Casio seems to have a reputaion for lens error.

I need a new camera for my band practices that at least lets me HEAR what's going on...it doesn't need to sound great, just decent. I bought a camcorder from China and even talking loudly causes the audio to crackle.

I've had two older versions of the Casio Exilim. I go to a lot of concerts and they weren't able to get the job done. If you were doing acoustic practice, or playing quietly and filming from quite a way back, you'd possibly get good sound quality, but I've got several example videos from being at concerts where you honestly can't even tell what's being played because of distortion. If you want a small camera that's good with audio, I'd recommend a newer Canon PowerShot. When my last Exilim got a little aged, I picked up a PowerShot, and while I still use the Exilim for photos, the Canon is all I use at concerts and it captures sound perfectly even if I'm right next to a monitor/amp/speaker.

Before I became a professional photographer I worked in a camera store. People came in all the time looking for P&S cameras but didn't know anything about photography. We always pointed them to the Exilims. I can't say much about this exact model, but in general they have very good picture quality and - most importantly of all - the shutter lag (the amount of time that passes between when you press the shutter and the camera actually records the image) beats the pants off of Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Kodak.

I refuse to answer on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

I bought the 10mp version that was on woot a year ago (pinkish purple), and it takes great pictures, it's compact while comfortable, and the metal case has a good feel.

I used it in Yosemite in september, and took some stunning pictures.

I might be in for one...

This is just a fab camera. My org uses it for informal picture opportunities, though sometimes if the lighting is bad, we won't.

The videos option is pretty good, and I've taken interviews before for one work or another.

Yep... nice photos, although I found it a little ironic that the Exif data shows all the photos of the Casio model were taken with a Sony SLT-A55V.

That said... at this price... you'll be really hard pressed to find a better camera for the money.

On the flip side, if money is no object and you want a really small camera that give you complete creative control, (i.e.., aperture, speed settings etc), will takes great HD Video at 720p and can deliver photos as close to a DSLR as you can get (in todays market) from a compact point and shoot camera... then get the Canon S95

The Panasonic LX-5 (also expensive) is another point and shoot that comes close to the quality of a DSLR... and competes with Canon S95 but its much larger and is easily twice as big as the S95.

this camera takes good pictures, stays charged for a long time but the durability is terrible. i bought mine from woot! and only had it for 6 months or so. i was holding this camera, about to take a picture, the was lens open and i took a small jolt on the arm and the camera was permanently stuck with the lens open and it doesn't work anymore.
