How much of the mattress is actually memory foam though? It seems like there's a small layer of memory foam, then this air filtration system (don't know how it withstands someone laying on it), then a different material on bottom.

I bought one of these way back, about 16 months ago (10/28/09). I'm a big guy, and weigh in around 220 lbs.

I love this bed.
To date, there's no noticeable cratering or indentation at all. It also stays nice and cool at night, and I've always had a problem with getting too warm with any mattress.

I've had at least one guest over who described it as the most comfortable bed she ever slept in.

So maybe there's some variation in the foam quality of different production runs?

was disappointed when i missed out on this last time...but after reading all the reviews, maybe it was a blessing in disguise. that many people reporting sagging in 6 months to a year is not a good deal IMO. i already have a 3" memory foam topper on my traditional mattress...sounds like i'm ahead of the game already without spending any more money.

I have had one for almost 6 months now and I must say it feels great. You don't wake up in the morning with those aches and hesitations anymore.

I bought the IKEA Malm Bed and used the double slatted ribs as the base to control the firmness of the bed. One of the best buys I've ever made.

I didn't read all the comments so this may have been covered.

We bought a Sealy top of the line memory foam

It outgassed for about 2 months. Our whole 2nd story smelled like this mattress. If wasn't an unpleasant smell but it was still a smell that was there that shouldn't have been.

After 2 years, there is some cratering on both my side and my wife's. She is 120 lbs and I am 170 so it is not like we exceeded some weight limit.

I would never order a memory foam mattress again

Ah! I've figured out the reference for today's write-up. It's "Killer Queen," by Queen.

The chorus is:

My mattress barely smelled at all, even when I first got it. The smell was completely gone within a week.

And I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I think I bought the King mattress of this last year for $300.

Actually, my receipt says it was a King 8" Cool Wave Memory Foam Mattress so maybe it wasn't the same one. I don't know.

I have one of these. Not the best memory foam mattress, and not good for heavier people.

The "ventilated" part of the mattress is flimsy, and the memory foam is egg-crate and full of "ventilation" holes and is not dense enough. I ended up turning the mattress over, with the firm foam underside on top, and covering with a good quality 3 inch memory foam mattress topper. This makes it almost comfortable . . .

Is the smell really going away or are we becoming used to the smell? (It is something called olfactory adaptation that allows us to continue to smell new scents in our environment.)

These foams are made from chemicals with additional chemicals to improve its properties with even more chemicals added for fire prevention.

Are we exposing ourselves to dangerous chemical out-gassing long after we no longer can smell anything?

I got this the last time they have it on Woot. I am ~220 and it works great for me. It is perfect to sleep on but I can't sit on it to read a book or use the laptop. My weight will cause it to sink too deep and end up causing me back pain.

For the people saying the foam break down after a few months. These were store compressed, if they can fail after a few months, they would have failed by the time you received it. The spot you sleep on will stay more compressed compare to other area but it make the bed fit me better.

The bed will fully decompress if you leave it alone for ~72 hrs like when you first open it. But I slept better in my imprint than when it fully decompressed.

If the heat doesn't bother you, then that is probably the way to go (I have something like that too and I'm never bothered by heat since I own a fan). The big draw here seems to be the vent sytem (places where air can pass through). This isn't eleven inches of memory foam from what the pictues look like, it may only be three inches and then the ventilation section comes into play

I'm sure someone has said it but for the record... getting it on is DIFFICULT on mattresses like this. It takes a lot of work when you're actually sinking into the mattress.

Though it is good in the sense that it doesn't squeak at all! There's that...

I'm a huge fan of everything I've gotten off woot! with the exception of this mattress. If I could go back in time I would absolutely not order it. Six months later it offers little to no resistance and by morning I'm sleeping in a pretty large hole. Can I have my money back? =x

Thanks for the answer! I had a feeling.

A few notes, I had a 4" high density topper on a waterbed for some time. One of the best beds I've ever had for sleeping, and was the best of all worlds... the water cooled the foam, and the foam insulated you from the cold water so you didn't have to waste energy heating it. Always the perfect temperature. The thing conformed, but since it wasn't a huge chunk of foam it did so with reasonable speed.... and the foam dampened the movement from the water (even though it was a dampened water bed).

The only reason I got rid of the setup was because I was not allowed to have a water bed at my next residence, and the frame was worse for wear at that point.

I had cut that topper with a razor blade / box cutter. It wasn't the most even cut, but that wasn't an issue with a cover / sheets on it. I just marked with a sharpie and went at it.

I have also had for a year and this Memory Foam Mattress is a piece of CRAP sags where ever you sleep no matter how many time you flip the "you do not have to flip" the mattress.

It is cheap for a reason and you would never find this piece of crap in any store.

I got one, probably the last time it was offered. It is a mix of good and not so good depending on what you like.

Ours did have a fairly strong smell and still does have some. Maybe if I got it at the peak of summer and let it air out better it might have outgassed it better but now it is kind of sealed up under the cover and all the blankets so it doesn't get much air.

I have enjoyed it and have greatly reduced neck and shoulder pain compared to our last mattress, a Serta. Neither my wife nor I toss and turn as much. I'm a light sleeper and she tends to snore in certain positions so that helps me.

She doesn't like it. With the give it has plus the box spring under it she tends to get a bit of a jackknife effect. I have been thinking of putting a solid board under it to see if that helps.

I haven't gone through a hot summer with it but for the winter it has been good. It sort of craddles more surface area of your body so less is exposed to the ambient air.

I haven't noticed any negative effects on romantic moments. And it is quieter so you can get more pnuematic and not worry about the kids eavesdropping.

I'm not sure my wife will ever like it. She is a traditionalist and once she has made her mind up to not like something it rarely changes.

In spite of the crater, I definitely don't regret my purchase. In fact, I just now recommended my friend and his pregnant wife get this. For $300, the price can't be beat. Sure you could get a better one for $2k or whatever that would last 5x longer, but what's the point? I'd rather have a fresh, new, and amazingly comfy one of these every 4-6 months for a few hundred bucks than pay for one that last longer but costs disproportionately more.

Is that really disproportionately more though? Paying between 600-900 dollars a year for the same mattress (assuming you can find it for 300 and 5 dollar shipping every 4-6 months), means you will have easily spent 1800-2700 dollars in 3 years. Thats alot of money. Assuming a 3000 dollar matress lasts you ten years, or even 5-7, you would be saving quite a bit of money that way :/

I think that may be the same mattress or a more recently made one of the same thing. The both use the same illustrations for the venting system.

You can't buy a mattress that's ALL memory foam. Even the 'brand name' mattress have only a limited amount of memory foam on them over a harder foam base.

I bought one of these in September, 2009. It arrived as described, fully-expanded within 12 hours or so, and everything seemed great. Within 4 months, however, the mattress had begun to lose its resiliency. My side of the bed had kind of sunk in (185 lb. 5'11" guy) while my girlfriend's side hadn't (120 lb.) So we started rotating the mattress (you can't really flip it because of the way the "zones" are organized) but it didn't really help. The sagging kept getting worse until essentially, one half of the bed is just killed and the other oddly rolls down into the other side.

Sometime in August 2010 I emailed woot asking for information on the manufacturer because I thought that my state may have legally-prescribed warranties that I could take advantage of. Woot said they could not provide me with manufacturer information and that the warranty was limited to a month or whatever it was, despite my saying that I wanted to bring the mattress quality issue up with my state's consumer affairs dept. No luck.

Bottom line: do not buy this. While $300 is a bargain, you're going to go out and buy another one within a year. Spend some money on a quality mattress and it will save you money in the long run.

To anyone who owns this mattress, and it has dents in it after some time, are you remembering to flip and rotate the mattress every six months? You have to do that to normal mattresses.

The horrible smell memory foam gives off is from the petrochemicals it's made out of. And it keeps off-gassing even after the smell is gone. Before I knew that, I bought a memory foam mattress topper at Tuesday Morning and got sick from the thing, headache that wouldn't quit, clogged sinuses.

Get a latex mattress instead, supremely comfortable, lasts longer and made out of something natural.

You have to be really careful buying memory foam without knowing the brand name. Lots of the memory foam sold on Overstock, etc. has clay "filler." (I'm not saying Woot's foam is like this, it's just hard to tell.) Cheap, clay-filled foam will not be as comfortable in the beginning and will wear out much sooner. I did a lot of research on this and found that foam poured in the U.S. tends to be much higher quality, but also much more expensive.

There is a lot of confusion about density. Higher density foam is always more expensive, and is usually thought of as higher quality. To some degree this is true -- really cheap foam can be 2.5 or 3 lbs. 4 lb. foam is usually the minimum you want to buy. Higher density foam is firmer and more supportive. HOWEVER, some people like this, and some people don't. 5 lb. foam can feel too restrictive to some people. You basically have to try it and figure out what you like. To add to the complexity, different manufacturer's foam feels really different.

My wife and I got 3 inches of 5 lb. foam and 1 inch of 8 lb. foam, and put it on top of a regular foam base. That 1 inch of 8 lb. foam was $250! But we love the bed.

I did a ton of research, tested out a bunch of Tempurpedics and other memory foam mattresses, and custom built a mattress to mimic the Tempurpedic I liked best (the Rhapsody, One more gargleblaster was it comfortable). I spent around $800, and the comfort was in the ballpark, but not the same. I'm guessing this cheaper bed would not be anywhere close. Unless you like the cheapest Tempurpedic beds, which actually have quite minimal memory foam, and feel very, very form. Those can be dupilicated quite easily, I think. (I found them too firm, as I am a side-sleeper.)

The last time this one on Woot, a coworker of my husband's bought it and loved it. We searched high and low and found the king size equivalent on Overstock (sold out now). Same ventilation system, just in king size. We've owned it now since Sept/Oct and I have to say that I love love love our bed. I'm also 6.5 months pregnant and only have just started to need to use a body pillow which is phenomenal because with my first child, I needed a body pillow from 8 weeks onwards.

The mattress is very firm to start with but within a week, was less firm and much more comfortable. It expanded to full height within an hour and it took about a week for the smell to completely dissipate (but I've also got the super-smell pregnancy thing. My husband couldn't smell it after a couple days). He weighs 60lbs more than me and as soon as we switched to this mattress, I no longer noticed when he gets in/out of bed (i.e. no rolling waves of movement). We're into around 4 months of ownership and there is no sagging so far in the mattress. It's extremely comfortable and we're immensely happy with it.

I feel genuinely bad for the people that have had bad experiences with this, I absolutely love mine. I got it almost 2 years ago, ordered it to my new apartment ($5 shipping is great). Be sure to give it plenty of time to out-gas as it does have a smell to it at first. I put a mattress topper on top of it, and put the mattress on a tarp (so it wouldn't suck stuff up) directly on the floor and it is simply the best bed I have ever had, no divets or anything, and I've been using it for quite a long time. My mattress is probably on the firm side, and I've heard that every memory foam mattress is slightly different in stiffness, so unfortunately it seems ymmv. (I'm also only 150lbs, maybe that's why mine lasts, don't know.)

I know someone already said "yes," to this, but my experience with the king mattress I purchased on sellout.woot has not been the same.

There is a significant weight differential between my sleeping partner and I, and we have not had this problem.

However, consider than on our king, we both tend to sleep closer to the outer edges of the bed (we both tend to spread out and move around a lot in our sleep) than toward the center.
