Anyone know of a wifi bluray player like this with divx support? I'd jump all over this one if it had it

I got an LG BD570 back in november and it is a pretty solid bluray player. I've had no issues with disc play back and it also does netflix, pandora, youtube and dlna. Also plays video files from a flash drive or hdd(both fat32 and ntsc).

So if I play a DVD on this can I watch it on any WiFi-enabled display in my home?

Sounds promising, does anyone know someone that has gotten this thing to read DIVX or other codecs not listed?

NewEgg only has two reviews, but they list pretty specific complaints. I imagine that not putting out Pandora or Netflix over analog outputs might hurt a few feelings.

Apparently, Memorex has put out a fix for this unit that fixes a lot of the issues:

Wi-Fi? What is the outside operating distance - how far away from a display can this player be placed?

Like Portezbie (below) I got a LG BD-570 and it plays divx / avi files (as well as most .mkv files, too and other miscellaneous things like .mpg, mp3, etc).

You can play them on disc, via a USB port, or
from your ethernet or wifi connected
computer via DLNA (it comes with Nero MediaHome which works fine as a server for me).

You also get Netflix and misc other online services built-in (gotta pay/subscribe to Netflix).

I'm sure there are other players that do much the same things but I'm really happy with that LG BD-570.

The above will not help woot sell this memorex player, except I'll say I got the LG for about $ 130 on sale.

How to Buy a Blu-ray Player

With top-notch performance, robust Web features, and finally-affordable prices, it's time to upgrade to Blu-ray.

The good news is that all Blu-ray players can upconvert traditional DVDs, (and they'll even look better than they would if you played them on your DVD player) so getting one doesn't mean you have to ditch your DVD collection or keep your old DVD player around.

After reading through the manual, I don't see support for any video files other than WMV through the USB port. (No Divx, MKV ....) This would have to be the deal breaker for me as it would be half my use on it.

The WiFi is to receive Netflix/Blockbuster/etc Streams. This does not wireless transmit to your television.

The only limits for where this can be placed are length of A/V cable and available power outlets.

Tempting - but while the User Manual http://www.memorex.com/Global/MVBD2535_UserGuide_All-Lang.pdf talks about streaming, it appears that that's only Netflix, Pandora, and Blockbuster - no mention of DLNA (or anything aside from those "Applications".)

Can't find the recent CNN article yet (hint to anyone else willing to search), but similar/same Yahoo article talking about Blu-ray pricing going down because of being built into TV's (and the CNN article argued because more people are streaming their video as the trend):

http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/111885/12-hi-tech-items-that-will-be-cheaper-this-year?cmtnav=/mwwarpmtgetnojspage/headcontent/main/111885//date/desc/11/s3662416

On the other hand, the selection of blu-ray (as discussed in the CNN? article) is still better than what's online to stream, but that blu-ray is headed down the path of the VCR.

Theres a few models out there, under $175 at Wal-Mart. You have to open the box and read the manuals on some. I cant remember which ones.

My PS3 (gen 1) plays most divx, mva, mkv, and streams Netflix wirelessly. I dont need one but I'd get one for my grandfather instead of a PS3

Never wooting again. I've learned my lesson about inferior customer service and employees that illegally modify your signature (18 U.S.C. § 1029). Grow up, woot. (Edit of Mod edit: I am telling the truth about you modifying my signature to slander me. I am not attacking people. You dont qualify as "people" until you call me back and I hear a voice on the phone, then we can discuss how your employees are harassing me.) Still no response Since December 2010.

Well to be honest the first complaint about no netflix or pandora over component is probably because those two apps require HDCP, which requires HDMI or DVI. To be honest, I can't imagine this being a big concern for many people, except those using older sets or projectors that can display HD resolutions, but only over VGA/Component. The second complaint is only valid for those living in Canada, everyone else can ignore it.

Here's the link to the manual on the Memorex site.
MVBD2535_UserGuide_All-Lang.pdf

The manual claims the player supports AVCHD, WMV, MP3 , WMA and JPEG files. No mention of DIVX or MKV support.

Upgrading to a WiFi Netflix player for $90 is very tempting, but no DIVX is a deal buster.

Anyone with actual experience using WiFi to stream Netflix? How is the picture quality?

I am using a hard wired panasonic blu ray to stream Netflix and Vudu. Great PQ with HD sources, but I don't know how well Wifi will perform.

A WiFi Panasonic unit will cost a lot more than this woot.

Could be a great buy if it works well.

Of the 2 Memorex reviews on Amazon. (neither this model) None of them came up with rave reviews. 2.5 stars and 1.5 stars

In other words these on average are garbage.
Go back to making magnetic tape Memorex, you weren't cut out to make Blu-rays

There's no difference with Picture Quality over Wi-Fi (Internet) as it's the exact same data, just transported differently.

I also have the LG BD570 and it is great. I had trouble with mine, sent it in to LG and they had a new one in my hands next-day shipping! It does Netflix, Vudu, Divx, Pandora and most file formats. You can also run a slide show from your computer with music playing.
I got a previous Memorex from Woot and it was a piece of @%$&
