Here are some reviews on Buzzillions.

I do a daily woot blog where I talk about the woot, link to CSEs, find reviews, etc. A few people have told me it's useful. Google "useful linkage" and there it is.

Looks like a good deal. Next cheapest I found was a refurb at Tech For Less @ $494, but that one only has a $500GB HD and shipping is HIGH. Oh, and there is 1 left in stock...

Note- it does come with a 22 inch monitor, though. No mention of the brand name.

For less than $450? Please. Show me another system with a similar configuration with more RAM.

I got one of these in a previous sale. I've had some problems with my sound card, and there were comments from others that had other (varied, often unrelated) problems.

Although it's a nice computer (especially for the price), if you get this, you'll want the warranty too.

I bought a similar unit (sans the wifi) last year on Woot. This unit has performed admirably with no real issues.

I did have an overheating issue that was affecting video playback, but cleaning out the dust in the case, the CPU and GPU heat sinks and all fans, etc. brought it right back up to 100%.

For this price, I seriously doubt you can do better.

This is a pretty good computer the ram and the processor is very good. 6gb of ram is plenty.
It depends what you are using this computer for though also.
If you are going to use this game for gaming you should look into if you can upgrade the graphics card.
For just checking email, skype, etc.. should be more then enough with the quad core cpu.

it has the expansion slot for a decent video card (the onboard integrated video card won't do for most recent games) but can someone a little mor savvy than me tell me if that 250W power supply be adequate for the computer and a fan-cooled card?

I just bought a HD camcorder on woot a week or two ago. I use Sony Vegas - any idea if this would be a good computer for editing HD video?

Your average computer only uses around 75-150 watts. The upper limit (250W) is only required when the computer is under full load, which rarely happens unless you game, and this computer is light years away from being a decent gaming machine. My computer, with its full ATX motherboard, quad core CPU, and 5 hard drives, still never pushes above 150 watts. What I would be scared about is not the amount of wattage the power supply can handle before overloading, but rather how well it provides a stable current to the machine and how efficiently it uses the power flowing through it. A computer like this will have a bottom of the barrel power supply. So yeah, be careful if you plan on using this for anything that will require it to be under full load for long periods of time.

Anyone have this computer and play WOW. I doubt it runs on max settings, but how does it do without putting any upgrades into it.

Not a chance. You'll need something around AT LEAST 500W.

I am very tempted to get this as a TV-side multimedia box, to stream Netflix movies, and watch DVDs. And, also, to have all the real estate to code. What do you think?

No, lol. 250W is lucky to run the stuff it comes with. Adding a decent midrange video card will be pushing your luck.

On the plus side, power-supply replacement is a very easy, straightforward PC maintenance job. If you can add a hard drive or DVD drive to a PC, you can handle swapping out the power supply, for all that it *looks* like a much bigger job. They only go in one way and you usually have MUCH more room to work the screwdriver; and you don't have to pull out any other components to replace the power supply.

You can likely pick up a superb fancy 500-600W power supply for about $100, or a reputable one without the bells and whistles for about $50 (my recommendation, for this system), or a shady but serviceable one for less than that.

the integrated video chipset can handle HD video, not sure if having shared memory will effect your rendering time though. might be slower.

Keep in mind that the motherboard appears to be some kind of micro-ATX board. Although if you look at it, the thing is completely backwards, so I actually have no idea what standard this motherboard is. However, what I can tell you is that the motherboard is small, and a small motherboard means it will perform extremely poorly for video games, even with a decent video card. If you want to buy a computer for gaming, get something with a full ATX motherboard, you'll be happy you did.

I've had two HP desktops, and never had any overheating problems... I even added a video card to my present one, which I've been using for the last 6 years.

Just my own personal experience, of course.

One reviewer made this point,
"in short I refuse to spend another 60 bucks ( or more ) for a new power supply on a brand new PC because the MFG failed to use a power supply that accommodates a PCI express card even though they give you the slot for the card on the mother board ...very very poor design IMO and very misleading when you see in the specs it has 300 watt Power supply and a PCI express slot that leads you to believe you could be up and running your favorite game in minutes without upgrading and that is NOT the case with this system ... HP fails the consumer and dropped the ball on this one !!"
Most others were satisfied with it and paid $629 new.

You can easily make this game-able with a new psu and a new gfx card. About 175 more? gtx 460 and a sub par psu. Maybe 220 total with a good psu.
Still cheaper then starting from scratch with these specs.

Honestly, unless you're running a ton of programs and streaming videos while playing games on max settings, 6 GB RAM is WAY more than enough. The only thing I would suggest is if you're planning on using this for gaming, upgrade the video card. Other than that these aren't bad machines, especially for that price.

indranil1703 wrote:Umm... never mind. This does not have a hdmi port.

A pretty inexpensive video card upgrade would give you one. By "pretty inexpensive" I mean about $40, though if you want to add "gaming on my big TV" to the list you should look at more like $90-$120.

But you can likewise subtract "coding": a 1080P TV is no more real estate than a 1080P monitor, and considerably less than a 1920x1200 monitor... but much more important is how BAD computer text looks on a TV. Dot pitch is awful, you will find it very unpleasant trying to read PC text on a TV.

The rest of the ideas are very good.

Agreed. If you keep it completely stock, you'll probably be OK. But if you put a different, decent video card in there and start playing graphic-intensive games I'll bet you'll run into trouble. If you want to upgrade the video card, I'd suggest buying a 500W or better power supply. Newegg.com is a good place to find one.

Can anybody find which version of PCI slots it has? It doesn't designate 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, etc, and I don't know what they consider "standard" anymore.
