Unfortunately, you still get what you pay for, it was DOA, spent hours on the phone with HP headquarters somewhere in a land far far away. So, they are sending me a box to put the dead PC in, ship it to thier repair place, at some point in the future they send it back, by then my refurb warranty will be on life support. Sucs to be me...It seemed to good to be true...

I had the same problem. Computer would turn on but do nothing. Was on the phone with HP tech support for 1.5 hours and they sent me a box to send it back yesterday. It seems like one of the memory slots on the motherboard is not working. Hopefully when I get it back it won't have any problems. Like another person posted... I think I will stick to small ticket items from now on.

gdrum3581 wrote:So, much like the rest of the posters, I also have a POS. So, mine booted up and ran initially. The first thing I did was burn recovery disks. Then I ran the windows update and headed off to bed. The next morning, I was greeted by the options of start in safe mode or start in normal mode. Apparently the computer crashed overnight. Since then, I have had many blue screens and abrupt reboots. After many hours of tech support, I ran the system recovery from the hard drive. That failed. Then I tried system recovery from the disks. That failed. Now I have no operating system. The hard drive checks out according to the bios extended self test. So, HP is sending me a new set of recovery disks. How easy is it to just return this to woot and give DELL a call?

Woot returns are quick and easy. I sent mine back after they sent me a return label and it was received by Woot today. I really could not see troubleshooting and sending this PC to HP for repair. Isn't that what they did when it was "refurbished?"

O.K., so i sent mine to HP for repair, just got it back. They replaced the motherboard. I got it back after about a week and a half. Don't know if it was worth the trouble, but it's done. Good luck to everyone.

Just got mine back today and installed all my creature comforts plus removed a bunch of crap that I don't need. So far it runs beatufully!! It's so fast compared to my 11 year old Pentium 4!! So far I'm happy with it. Let's hope it holds.

So far mine is working great. Really fast and really quiet. I really need a new graphics card and a PSU. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

As a comment, mine has been working great also. Got my replacement drive from Newegg(an add on, original from them was DOA) and it is working fine also.

To answer your question, I have no idea. Its like asking me "what car should you buy". Each of us uses a computer(or car) differently. Some for games, others for CAD/CAM, others for business, still others for audio/visual, and the list goes on. Plus most of us don't just do one thing on a computer. Once you know what you are going to do, then some Googleing, research, reading reviews, and finding one in your price range is in order. There is always the, check what is on sale and research that card to see if it will do the job. There is no one or easy answer here.

Once you choose your graphics card, check to see if the specs tell you how much power it requires. This will give you an idea of how much additional power is required. Hopefully it will give you an exact number and not say something Jatravartid like "you need a 450 Watt supply". How do they know what else you have in your system(motherboard, CPU, memory, drives ...). Although in the case of this computer, 450 Watts will most likely do everything you want with power to spare even with a new graphics card. You don't need a 600-850 Watt supply, that's overkill.

If the computer is doing the job for now, I suggest you take your time. Spend some time doing the research. Find the card(s) and power supply/supplies that will do the job, then check around for the best buy or sales(they are going on all the time) on them and save yourself some money in doing so.

As and example I spent close to 6 weeks looking for a computer to buy. I had already figured out what would do the job for me and had several choices in mind. When this Woot deal can along it actually had everything I wanted plus more and at the same price or less then the ones I was looking at. I knew it was what I wanted. Then it took me 2 hours to talk myself into actually parting with my money. Strange how that works.

I'm guessing this is not the answer you were looking for, but I hope it helps.

OK, I've tried twice to fix the line in the 3rd paragraph, but it keeps coming out wrong when it displays. Instead of "something 's t u p i d' like" it keeps coming out "something Jatravartid like". Really, a species in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! What gives?

Yea that helps out a bit. I just have to figure out what kind of card will be compatible with my system and how crazy I want to get with it. Ive never built my own computer before so this is completely new territory for me. Thanks for the reply!

I bought this pc from woot, and once it arived, i just set it aside, wasnt sure what I was going to do with it yet. Well today i hooked it up and decided to see how it ran WoW with the 250W PS, and built in graphics. I plug in it, connect the mouse and keyboard, connect a moniter to it.. nothing... i get the power light, and fans kick on, but no power to the moniter or keyboard.. i have re-seated everything, checked all the plugs.. took out all the memory, started it, beeps.. put one stick in, and it boots up, and then shuts down.. looks like memory issue or MB issue. Gonna call HP tomorrow and see if they can do something bout it..

I've had this system connected for about 2wks now. Everything seemed fine at first, but then started noticing I was getting the prompt to start in safe mode after not using the computer for a few hours. After using it for about 30 min I got the blue screen physical memory dump. This just got progressively worse. I'll have the computer on for about 10 min now before the memory dump. This is one big Turd.

mine has been acting up, first when you first turn it on it goes into power saving mode at least thats what the monitor says. Now after it on a while it will restart the screen scrambles the picture and restarts. The HP assistant program it gives board errors when I run the troubleshooting. I should have know better I will stick with Dell or my own builds from now on. Now to call HP support.

So, after having mine die in the middle of the summer, conveniently right before the warranty expired, I had the motherboard replaced after 2 weeks of blue screen hell making it impossible to use.

It was great to have a working computer for.. 2 months after that.

Felicity (the PC) is now extra dead. Won't turn on, warranty expired and I'm pretty sure the problem is the motherboard that HP REPLACED.

REPLACED.

And yet its already acting up?

Not that this it's woot's fault directly, but I'm never buying an HP product again after this.

I Bought the HP Pavilion because it was what I wanted and that I would have a replacement when my old computer was on its last legs I would have a back up. Only problem was when I opened the box and set up the computer it doesn't work. To bad the warrenty doesn't start the day you open the box and turn the computer on. Wish there was some solution that I got some value from my investment.
