apbarry wrote:Just in case someone else is having the same issue I was: I wanted to download the Amazon appstore app, but was having no luck signing into Amazon via the stock web browser. (It kept saying there was a problem with my email/password combo, which I made sure was correct.)

Solution: I reviewed my extracts from this thread, and found the URL I'd used when trying out the Android emulator: http://amzn.to/getappstore . Once I had downloaded and installed that apk, I had no trouble signing in via it.

(And speaking of app stores: I think I have understood that it is not possible to get to the Google app store from the stock ROM. Correct?)

Correct, no Google Market via stock. With a mod, it "mostly works" - a lot of apps show up, but it doesn't seem to be 100% (even with the Market hack on XDA). Still, it's certainly better than nothing at all.

DO the "market fix.

1. open the market so it is running.
2. go into settings and then applications. your looking for soemthing along the line sof maange running applications.
3. scroll down to market. clear cache (do not clear data) and then force stop.
4. Go to google services framework and clear data and then force stop
5. Go back and launch the market.....you SHOULD get an error.
6. Reboot

Now it should work....worked for me and I'm also on VEGAn

I did something like that, following a video linked from the ROM installation instructions. I guess I'll try it again.

UPDATE: OK , I did what you said and now the missing apps are found. not sure what went wrong last time. thanks.

Glad it worked. I'm using launcher pro right now, but let me know what you think of ADW. Both have paid versions and I'm wondering which is better.

UPDATE: just bite the bullet and bought the paid version of launcehr pro (only 3 bucks) pretty cool....

Just finished Vegan install - Sean Cullinan blog was perfectly written

I just finished the market fix. Everything is smooth so far except my pinch to zoom is not as responsive as with the stock and I liked the original keyboard a little better.

But the difference so far is unlike the original UI - Everthing is playing nicely.

Thanks for all the great support ! Off to donate.

You can get the original TnT keyboard back. Click and hold on place where you would type information (like the search field). Select Input and select the TnT keyboard.

i'm curious. if you guys go to gmail, is someone else's email address already entered? this is, of course, with the stock ROM.

Me too. Fingerprints smears and no screen protectors. I haven't booted it up yet because it's still charging. Did you hear anything from Woot about this? I emailed them and am waiting for a response.

Many thank you's for the videos. They look great. 1080p race car & king kong WMV vids ran fine on the gtab. Really liked that African deer antler sparring match MP3 vid too. Sorry they did not give you that Lion & Tiger video like lots of folks were talking about, but I wonder if it's on Youtube or some other web site.

Just learned my Photos and Music folders are empty after the GTAB 3389 firmware update to build 3588. I thought only my sample videos were deleted by the OTA 3588 update. BEFORE the update, I did not look inside the video folder but the Photo folder had about 5-7 sample pics that I looked at and the Music folder had 3 samples, then the OTA update wiped them out. I've looked in all the folders I can on the GTAB with no luck.

Hope Viewsonic or another kind Wooter will post up the sample Photos & Music samples.

Kinda funny that the Angry Birds game & the water leaves live wallpaper were there before the OTA update & were still there after the OTA update, along with most all the other items I can remember, but wish I would've copied it all over to my PC hard drive before doing any updates, but I did not realize I could do that until later after the update since this is my 1st Android device.

Really appreciate all the trouble you went to in uploading those huge videos, but they will do a super job when I demo the GTAB capabilities to family & friends who are not familiar with Android devices.

It is sad, that this tablet does not charge via usb, so the question of he day is - does anyone know of a decent cheap charger that would work with this guy? I can get a $15 universal charger at Amazon, it will probably have a proper tip and voltage selection. But sometimes there's a really cheap charger for a different gadget that just fits.

Anyone found one?

Looks like for a tad over $14 shipped this one should work. It has a 5.5 x 2.1mm male socket.

Just watched the sample videos on the stock ROM. They looked good. Went back to the home page then tried to watch video again and it said "sorry this video can't be played right now."

Then the gtab froze, and eventually shutdown.

Now I can't get it to boot.

I just wanted to play with the stock before I did anything. I have it plugged in because I just opened it.

Is that my problem? Does it not have enough charge? Even with it plugged in?

Well, I unplugged it and it finally booted.

I'm just wondering if I have to do anything before I root it. Like do an update on the firmware from viewsonic?

The viewing angles are pretty bad.

Like someone else has already mentioned, I'm not sure I can get over that...

In case anyone is still looking for a tablet case or sleeve . . .

Went to a local Sears but they no longer had the holiday neoprene case logic gTablet case or sleeve.

Checked out a few Walmarts & found an HP 10.2" Netbook Mini Sleeve (neoprene) which was $9.88 marked down to $4.50 which was black with a white or pink design symbol, but HP has it on their web site selling for $20 although Amazon has it for $5.45. It fits the Viewsonic gTablet just fine, but it's simple with no pockets.

Here's a couple photo images I'll embed here below.

Hope ya'll find what you want for a reasonably decent price.

I grabbed this sleeve while at staples. I had a coupon, but amazon has it for under $14 as well.

http://www.amazon.com/HP-VX403AA-ABL-Mini-Sleeve/dp/B0033RY7YC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1301796442&sr=8-4

Fits pretty good, but there is a little room for it to move inside. The interior is a very soft material so no worries about scratches. Plus ther are two little pockets on one sie and one big pocket on the other.

I like the pockets, because my company does give me a sprint over drive hotsopt so I can put it in the pocket and my gtab will work when I'm out and about....

Here's something that may be helpful to anyone with file transfers or copying files (APK's, photos, music, videos) or folders between the Android gTablet & a Windows computer with screen captures in the tutorial. The example below is copying music from Windows to an Android phone.

Simple Help for Copying Files to Android Devices from Windows PC's

"How to copy files to your Android device from Windows"

This can be helpful in making a quick backup of many of your gTablet files to your PC before modding & flashing another custom ROM.

Mine arrived yesterday afternoon in pristine condition. 4.1 lbs. and no screen protectors; obviously brand-spanking new and beautiful!

I thought I would keep the stock ROM for a while, but a few forced closes of the browser in the first 5 minutes quickly disabused me of that notion. So I modded it with VegaN-tab and set up with Flesh 10.2, Dolphin HD browser, and everything else I wanted. I used Sean's famous instructions, which worked beautifully.

Then I saw Roebeet's warning about Clockwork Mod--I know somewhere else (I think XDA} I saw one about nvflash, so I steered clear of that. Oops--hope I won't have problems in the future, but so far, everything's good. I installed a whole mess of apps, one of which seems to be buggy, because all of a sudden I was having a lot of forced closes; reinstalling the affected apps seems to work. I have to figure out what's causing the problem and fix it; I'm pretty confident it won't be too hard to do.

My unsolicited advice to those who are on the fence about modding because you aren't confident of your tech skills: You don't need to be a techie to mod your tablet (I'm certainly not either). But it helps if non-techies consider you one! If Sean's instructions seem straightforward to you when you first read them, you shouldn't have any trouble at all. Easy-peasy and fun too. But if you don't understand them ("What does 'navigate to...' mean???"), then don't try it, with his or any other instructions.

Roebeet, Rothnic, GoJimi (and also Sean for your help), I can't thank you enough for putting in so much work and time to develop these ROMs and to help us all out. My tablet rocks big time, and so do you!!!

Got mine a couple of days ago. Flashed Vegan and applied the market fix to get everything working, and all is awesome with one exception. I cannot get titanium backup to work because it does not see my device as rooted (I know it is!). Tried all the suggested fixes (install/update busybox and superuser), but still no dice. Is there a known fix to this issue? Or are there any backup alternatives to titanium that are not as finicky?

what is everyone's take on battery life? I'm running vegan, and yesterday it seemed like the battery was depleting at an expected rate. I got down to about 15% and then let it charge until the light was green. now this morning i have been using it here and there for about 3 hours, and it is still saying 100%. seems to good to be true.

Secondly, whats everyones opinion on task killers? do we need one?

Got mine Friday. Charged it fully, powered it on, used it Friday night & Saturday. Went to plug it in to charge it this morning (Sunday) and it didn't start charging. The jack seems to have developed a bit of a wiggle. Looks like the jack is damaged. On the second plug in.

I sent a message to woot support, hope to hear back Monday. Mine didn't have any screen protectors either, and there were fingerprints on it when I got it. These were supposed to be new, right?

Haven't had a problem with anything from woot so far, but this is not sitting well with me.

I got my tablet yesterday. Tried ClockWorkMod but shut it down too quickly before it was done and it wouldn't load any ROMS. Ended up having to NVFlash to the stock ROM and doing it all over.

Follow the directions on xda-developers to the letter.

Installed Vegan and got the apps I need from the Market fix and side-loading from my phone (Apps2SD).

EA's Need for Speed doesn't seem to work though. Would have been killer on the bigger screen.

Oh and my tablet was totally new.

I finally sat down and went through the mods for the gtablet. I followed:

http://www.blendblog.net/Blendblognet/tabid/36/EntryID/70/Default.aspx

which had me install Clockwork, repartition the storage, install TNT Lite 4.0, Pershoot's latest kernel and gain access to Market.

I have no idea what most of that means, but if you follow the instructions and go painfully slowly and careful it will take all of about 30 minutes. All those tasks succeeded.

The gtablet is more responsive and my only questions / problems are:

1 The email and calendar sync with my firm's exchange server but the contacts won't for some reason.

2 How do you lock these things up? Is there an app to keep people out?

3 I tried Touchdown to use for email, calendar & contact but cannot get it to sync with anything on our exchange server.

4 There are apps on the tablet like Navigation, Phone and maybe others that are not functional on a gtablet. Can they be deleted? I tried to get the gtablet connected to a Palm bluetooth GPS that I have but it would pair with it but not connect.

5 I have a hard drive full of music that I intend to load up once my SD card shows up. Any advice on that or is it straightforward?

Knowing my setup, anyone have any other comments recommendations?

Thanks,
