The timing of this product on Woot is interesting. I think Viewsonic knows that Samsung is about to kick their butt...

kensoraya wrote:hi this is the vendor,

one of the beauties of g-tablet is that it has usb that mean you in a way have unlimited storage you can buy flash drives for few dollars on ebay and keep on going.... same thing with cheap micro-sd cards you can buy they for few dollars on ebay and get additional storage up to 16 gb and just keep on going and going and going..... with apple to transfer data you need to email or connect to usb with g-tablet you can do that plus you can transfer it on small flash drive or sd-card.

All of which is completely irrelevant to what the guys was asking about...

'Vendor', you go now, ok?

Evolution2001 wrote:So it does playback of 1080p video (1920x1080) on a screen that maxes out at 1024x600?

Good question.

The descriptions says, "With is [sic] 1080p playback resolution, sharing entertainment and photos on this gorgeous display is truly a delight"

Analyzing that statement it seems that "playback resolution" means that it can playback at 1080p, but does not specify that it can playback at 1080p on its own display. It can be assumed that they mean that it will send a 1080p signal to a 1920X1080 display, through HDMI.

While this statement is technically honest, it is a bit misleading and can be confusing.

In for one.

What the heck, I think I can handle rooting it, and the small items that won't work are things that are not that important to me.

So now, the wait for it to arrive.

What HDMI? I don't see any ports.

tedlogan12 wrote:Yeah, that's true. And the new Amazon App market helps bypass concerns about not having access to the Market by default. You can get most of the same apps that way and never have to worry about rooting. However, I've rooted three phones now and this tablet, and this tablet was by far the easiest.

Hi there. Just wondering how Amazon Appstore will handle app updates? Seems like market access would still be necessary but I don't know. Thanks. I guess I misread the description because I thought this had the Android Market.

I don't know which was more difficult.... reading through the 11 pages of comments or actually deciding to part with the money to purchase my first tablet. lol

Everything I've read here and on the Amazon site (where it's $369 new) says this is a very solid product with very fast hardware. It needs to be rooted and an alternate firmware put on. The popular choice seems to be Vegan until they work out the kinks with Honeycomb.

For those apprehensive about rooting a Droid, don't be. The amazing developers at XDA have put together fantastic code and guides to simply the process for you. I did the same thing to my wife's NookColor she got for xmas. She loves it because now she can read Kindle books on there too. It honestly took me longer to download the code needed for the root (45 minutes) than it did to root the NookColor (15 minutes).

Still not sure what I will be using this for, but since work won't pay for me to have a Droid. My wife won't let me mess with her DroidX or NookColor (now that she has Angry Birds on it), it'll be fun to play with. If nothing else I can set it up with some movies for the kids to watch on longer car rides.

Thanks Woot for another fantastic deal!

Yes, custom roms are all built from Google's source or stripped from an Android Phone, and will sync just fine.

Movies... games... great for viewing pdfs... install dropbox on it and use it to quickly reference any docs you need. Perfect for couch surfing, traveling, and keeping the kids busy. Battery lasts 8-10 hours. I use it for work purposes all the time and for fun.. there's a few awesome games for it...

Anyway, about the order process, maybe I missed it but I was never given the option of the SOURCE of my paypal payment. I wanted to paypal with my CC but it just went straight through to my bank. Ohh well, I trust Woot I guess.

Also, I didn't see a shipping option. Are these going out via SmartPost? If so that'll give everyone enough time to read up on rooting, buy sd cards, wait some more, curse about Smartpost, read some more, and then find a different deal. Or are they coming via a real service?

shows after the write-up and before the features section, shipped ground

No money to buy one of these but I crossed over to the dark side and used the credit card anyways. Been wanting a tablet to play with but couldn't afford or justify price.
Just received my shirt from Woot from last wootoff. Hopefully this comes faster than that.

Almost bought--the thing that it hinged on was whether or not Honeycomb would port at some point down the line. While it may, and I might beat myself up for this later, it seems that Honeycomb's minimum resolution is 1280 x 800, and this puppy runs at 1024 x 600. As a result, this is more of a first-gen Galaxy Tab competitor with amped up hardware than an Android 3.0 competitor.

It seems that with rooting, this tab has great potential to be a very functional slate device, running Froyo (and perhaps Gingerbread, if you'd like to flash and hack). But I'm going to wait for the legit Honeycomb tabs to start hitting the presses, probably around Q2/Q3 of this year, then wait for a product exactly in this space (the beefy-spec cheaper ipad competitor.

Had one of these... Was a nice little tablet. Was fun trying out different custom roms. Just sold it a few weeks ago. Got an original iPad 16GB instead. XDA forums are awesome.

The gtab was a fun toy for me, but the iPad better suits my wife with it's games, etc.

Will my Verizon USB aircard work with this? I find myself in many places where there is no free wifi. My company pays for the card so I'm stuck with it.
