We really needed another location for this, anyway - so I just uploaded it. That ZIP is from the November 10th, I think - ancient!

MPA-630 is the correct one. It has a detachable piece where the prongs are. So they may have given you the wrong prongs (notice that there's a switch where you can detach it).

this is my 3rd android tablet this year

the 1st, for my wife was an augen g7 which after a month of tweaking is a great machine for her

my 2nd is a zt-180 gen 1 that really works well, just not great screen calibration (but better than most) and relatively medium performence

ive had my gtab charged for a few hours and havent updated the fw yet, but i am surprised at all the whining people have over the stock rom. if this thing is 100x better w/ vegan than im not sure i can handle that.

this seem pretty proficcient (not awe inspiring, just noting to cry about)

Roebeet. I hear a lot about how gingerbread is a lot smoother then froyo.

But I see a lot of reviews of some of the gingerbread roms for the gtablet feeling sluggish.

Are there any roms that are GB based that are great and stable?
I'm thinking of checking out your stuff first:
gADAM, TNT lite, and then probably vegan tab (everyone says that one is great)...
Are any of them GB based or faster because of it?

Very disappointed and now facing a decision. My package has arrived. Opened box and found a heatshrink sealed Gtab box. Opened the Gtab box to find a very "not new" Gtab. Back of unit very scratched. Power adapter's cord is wound loosely and rubber band around it. Cords on power adapter dirty as well.
Now to decide what to do. I don't want to pay for "new" and get used. Not even refurbed, just plain used.
This is the first time I have ever received anything substandard from Woot after years of buying.

dgstan wrote:This is scaring the heck out of me. Several people have now commented that their gTab is clearly not "new", yet Woot proffered it up as such.

Have any Woot staffers spoken up here on this issue? New is new, right? Or is this another aspect of the Woot business model?

Ack, we accidentally deleted the original post. It was double posted and both were cleaned out, so I'll reply to this one.

We do have a handful of these left to replace any that arrive in a condition such as this, I'll be emailing them and offering. These should arrive new, the units we have were all new and I haven't seen any emailed complaints (though others may have). I don't think you have much to worry about since there really haven't been that many problems out of the 10,000 we've sold so far.

I stepped back from VEGAn (Froyo) as I had too many mods to deal with, but yes it's still very popular. It got an update last month (that 5.1.1 supplement) but many have said that a kernel update also helps a lot. A lot of the stuff in TNT Lite 4 came from VEGAn, like the g-sensor hack.

As far as GB, there are a few out there and I honestly haven't played around with them too much since my device is usually testing TNT Lite and gADAM builds. But gojimi (the main dev behind VEGAn) has a VEGAn GB edition that he's testing.

gADAM is a port of the Notion Ink Eden interface. Some love it, some hate it. But it's definitely different than all the other mods. I support it because I have a NI Adam, so it's pretty easy for me to port.

Mine just came, and it was clearly new. Everything was sparkling I'm very happy with my purchase. I just followed the vegan tab guide and it works 100% even video calling with yahoo messenger to my girlfriends iphone 4!

Yes, it's the same way. And you only need the latest supplement -- for example, I'm probably going to have a 4.3.3 today to "unfix" the Camera.

I'll get on XDA tonight at home. FOr some reson my work laptop blocks it as "hacking". WHich I guess it is.

For adding this supplement, do you need to do the unmount steps?

I received mine, and had it up and running within a couple of hours on the charger. It immediately prompted me to download updates, which seemed to install successfully. After letting is sit another hour or so, I tried out the web browser. The first website I visited did something like a 'force close', along with subsequently every other app I tried to access (news, weather, etc). I reset the machine using the power button on the side. Upon restart, it froze on the 'gTablet' start-up screen for 2-3 minutes, restarted itself, and appears to have done a factory reset. Now all of the pre-installed apps are missing and I seem to be starting from scratch.

Anyone else have this problem? Any way to remedy it? I'll try emailing Woot! while I'm at it...

I actually scrapped that idea and just made a 4.4.0 (with a new kernel). So it's just one update now, no supplement.

Ouch. That's not good - I hope their image is clean. The very early VS image was garbage and needed a factory reset immediately out of the box.

Btw, to Tiger Direct customers (if there are any here) - there was a guy on the IRC last night with one and it was a mess of FC's. I think TD is selling them with the original 2967 firmware, which is buggy as heck.

Anyone in staff want to chime in? If a Woot user does a factory reset and loses Flash, what's the "best" way to get it back? Is there a process that distributor has created?

Ok, I've researched some, it looks like you can reinstall Flash by using this link: http://www.freewarelovers.com/android/download/temp/1292610863_Adobe_Flash_Player_10.1.120.1.apk

But I don't have one to play with (though surely they can give -me- one and write it off?) and I'm not so Flash-savvy, is that the right version? Work ok?

Our system is set to root out orders going to PO Boxes by the easiest method possible- it looks for the address line 1 containing a "p" as the first letter. Since we marked yours as a PO Box (even though I know it wasn't), we had to ship it via SmartPost since we assumed it wouldn't be able to deliver correctly going via FedEx Ground.

Where is the "Vendor"?

I was pleased it was shrink wrapped but mine did not appear new either. The unit has two pretty good scratches on the back and some smudges on the screen.

I have not powered the screen yet as its still charging so I am hoping that is OK.

I read some of the stores were sending these back ... and the stock UI should have been a warning ...

When you do a factory reset, everything in /data is wiped. And if those extra apps were installed in /data (and I suspect that they were), they will be wiped as well.

I personally use Titanium Backup, which has already been mentioned here - problem is that it requires a rooted device, which is not what you get with stock.

Thanks to both you and brsnow, but I think you both misunderstood my point. What I'm wondering is whether we are all using the term "ROM" to mean a mixture of hardware bootstrapping procedures AND software installation. In the old days, ROM usually meant a chip that contained the BIOS and hardware-specific instructions (such as where to find peripheral devices and where to look on a hard drive for the operating system.) Manufacturers typically only updated it every year or so by issuing a file which you flash to your computer (thereby giving the lie to the definition Read Only Memory.)

Anyway - I'm probably worrying too much about semantics.

My goal is to start with the least "invasive" procedure, then move on to more ambitious stuff, making backups and learning as I go.

The first thing I will do is make a copy of what arrives, using Acronis True Image. If I subsequently brick the gTab, I will try to restore using that, and I'll report the results back to you.

Next I will try to "root" the device - which I understand adds a Unix-style "superuser" who has full access to all the files and folders. I understand that z4root1.3.0.apk copied to the root of the gTab's sdcard, then installed from there, will do the trick?

Next - Titanium Backup to backup to that point?

Next - ClockworkMod to get easier "root" functionality. Using sdcard2.

Finally your excellent TnTLite. Latest and greatest, of course.

Does that sound like a plan?

Things are moving so fast, it's hard to keep up, and whatever we do today will be obsolete soon anyway! I understand Honeycomb and Gingerbread are being amalgamated and will be released as Ice Cream, maybe mid 2011.

I came home for lunch to wait for it to arrive. My deliveries arrive 90% of the time during the lunch hour. So I sit and wait as long as I can with no delivery. I head back to work and check the tracking about 15 minutes after I get there and it was delivered. Arrghh. I came back home. Charging now. It seemed new. Everything packaged as expected. However there were fingerprints on the screen. No scratches at all. When this thing finishes charging I will check settings to see if has some elses credentials.

Tonight I will be modding it. Haven't yet decided which I want to put on yet. Have downloaded Tnt and Vegan in anticipation.

Hehe... It does not just look exactly the same, but it appears to be the same indeed. Apparently the seller realized they fit gTablet and made a separate listing for it... If you look at the supplied pictures very carefully, you may realize that the gTablet that is pictured inside the case looks a bit odd.. In fact it kind of looks familiar... Ummm... Seems a bit more like Kindle, than like gTab, actually... Especially on the last couple of pictures
