Hi,

The youtube line in your browser history is part of the test before the unit is packed and shipped...

uninstall the flash player and reinstall it

I can go to the YouTube site with no problem, but the videos will not play. It goes to the beginning of the video with the arrow in the middle of the screen. But when I click on the arrow, it just freezes up and says that the video can not be shown. Anybody have a suggestion?

roebeet wrote:For AB and VEGAn, I dont remember if VEGAn has the "mount with SD card" issue - it might. Try this:

- Mount the device via USB, so that way the internal storage is automatically unmounted on the device.
- Run the AB install. It might work this time.

If it works, its because AB is trying to install on the SD card, which used to be a problem. This is the "trick" to get around that.

As for the Market, did you do the Market hack? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845175

Once again roebeet saves the day. AB is now installed. Onto the market fix....

If you have flash installed in your tablet there is no need for youtube app. simply open your browser and go to youtube.com

This one at least has been updated this year. I'm hoping it will fix the issue.

[Look Ma! A link that will be easy to find when I get home! WOOT!]

You can do a data wipe with standard recovery. So I would do this, assuming you are stock or on TNT Lite:

Settings -- Security -- Factory Data Reset.

The device will reboot and wipe data, then reboot again. This will delete all your user settings and also any user apps (like the Kindle app and Flash). It basically resets it to a standard stock configuration. Those extra Woot vendor apps are not stock, those were added on just for this sale. Trust me on that, I know these stock builds like the back of my hand.

Try uninstalling Adobe Flash Player 10.1 and update it to 10.2 from freewarelovers - get to it from viewsonic.com/gtablet/favorites and it's under popular in March. This worked for me. 10.2.156.12 is the latest one.

You can also get it from the Google Market, if you are on a modded ROM. The 10.2 they added in March is the one we use on GTABs, over in XDA.

If this thing arrives tomorrow as FedEx now says, this is going to be an interesting weekend. Never rooted anything, but this all sounds intriguing.

Of course, I'll likely eventually find I have no real use for this tablet (which is what happens with about a third of all tech I buy)

First the packaging didn't have a screen protector, or any of that clingy plastic around the case (just the white bag).

Second, it booted straight to classic home asking for no initial setup or anything. It looks like there is already another wifi ap setup. It has "angry birds" installed and a bunch of other programs. It has a full copy of "King Kong" in the folders....

Is this what everybody else got, or is mine a return?

edit: no, not a full copy of "King Kong" just the trailer, called "King.Kong.1080P.wmv" in /sdcard/Master/Videos.

I got the same thing in mine as well as two other videos. One with a racecar and one with a lion and tiger.

I would argue that, even if you don't have any issues, you should STILL do a data wipe. It wipes all the data apps, but I've been told that there's a MASTER folder where all these apps can be reinstalled.

If I had gotten one of these, I would 1) verify that the app apks are in that master folder and 2) wipe it (factory reset) . I wouldnt even wait for issues to pop up. My 2 cents.

With 3389 I had a MASTER folder but after the OTA update to 3588, I could not find the MASTER folder any more.

Hope ya'll still have your MASTER folder with the APK's.

I can understand why Staples recalled these things. There's no way Viewsonic should have put their name to these things as retail units. THe software is way too horrible.

On another note, the screen res stinks as well as the viewing angles, but for the price certainly something that can be managed. The only downside is the Wi-Fi constantly cycling. If I can't get that to stabilize, this thing has to go back. I'm not buying three new routers because of this thing.

I heard it was under /sdcard/MASTER. A data wipe only wipes /data, not /sdcard. Sorry if something happened to them! - again. I don't have one in front of me so I have to go on what I'm hearing.

A data wipe definitely doesn't wipe /sdcard, though. Also, make sure your drive isn't mounted on your PC, as that's /sdcard. It has to unmount it on your device to mount on your PC.

I saw a few other people run into the problem I'm having.

Unable to connect to wifi at all. Tried my own and another available source and the only thing that happens is:

Connecting...
Disconnected
Connecting...
Disconnected
Connecting...
Disconnected

Ad infinitum.

I called their support and they were unable to provide any solutions to the problem. I tried a system restore and all I accomplished with that was lose the free apps that were pre-loaded for this deal.

Before I go ahead and RMA the unit as seems destined, does anyone think there is a chance the wifi could be solved with a USB transferable anything? Roms, hacks, etc. that leave the machine open to factory restored settings for RMA purposes? :/

Really bummed I waited for this and it's mostly useless out of the box.

CORRECTION: FACTORY RESTORE DOES NOT DELETE ANGRY BIRDS OR THE OTHER INCLUDED APPS.

It's not required, but I would recommend it. 3588 gives you a solid baseline to work off of.

The other reason why I keep suggesting 3588 is for its recovery (if you keep it). 3588 might (and I stress "might") be a gateway ROM for Viewsonic's future updates, so it's kind of a "better safe than sorry" thing.

My unit is charged. But, I can't connect to my wireless. I need to use static addressing. Can it not handle that? It tries to connect by scanning, then says "network available" over and over. If I ge closer, ir finds the network, then connecting and then assigning IP address and then disconnecting. Over and over.

If I can't connect for an OTA update, what good is this thing?

Some modded ROMs have different Wifi drivers (VEGAn and zPad come to mind) but there's no guarantee that it will help.

From our experience in XDA, the GTAB has issues with some router configs. I would try this:

1- Try a different channel on your router (could be interference)
2- Try dropping it to G only, if it's an N router (GTAB supports N, but N is one of those "it's not quite ratified so everyone does it differently" things).
3- Try removing any security (just as a test!). The goal there is to see if its the router's security settings that could be causing problems.

My concern is that you could RMA it, get a new device and have the exact same problems. It could just be a router compatibility issue.

I have a FIOS Actiontec and a DD-WRT'd Cisco 160N that works (if that helps)

I had installed Vegan with Clockwork and now want to install the latest TNT. When XDA is back up, you can grab a stock ROM to at least get it to 3588 (not sure that it will help, but can't hurt). This is one of the things that I have literally complained about to Viewsonic since November - early ROMs had terrible Wifi, but you couldn't get the OTA upddate to fix it? Even Apple has offline updates, and they are crazy locked down.

In XDA, just go to my General legacy sticky, and you'll see a link for stock ROMs with instructions.

Also see my above Wifi post for some other tips.

Correct, you don't need the recovery folder at all for clockworkmod. You just need the ZIP file.

If you are going to stick with cwm, a suggestion: Create a subfolder on /sdcard called "backups" (or similar) and then just dump all the ROMs there. Then, when you use cwm to flash, just point it to that folder and flash the zip in question. Very helpful when swapping between ROMs.

I don't recommend TNT Lite with cwm only because it doesn't flash the bootloader. But, if you stick with 1.1-based mods (which is what all of them are, at the moment) then you should be OK, including TNT Lite 4.x. This could change in a week, though. Maybe.

Thank you for the response, it got me thinking in the right way.

The problem was solved by Manually adding the GTab's MAC Address to my router. Once I had that entered into the gateway I saw the GTab acquire an IP address.

Will keep an eye out for anyone else who has the problem and let them know to try it. It was the only thing changed and the effect was immediate for me.

Could use a little help here.

Installed clockworkmod.

Downloaded TNT 4.4 and got stuck on part nine of the instructions.

I made a file called ROMS and dropped the 4.4 RAR file into it.

I then read "Navigate to the line that reads “ROMs” and press the home button to select that option."

There is no line that says ROMs. I checked again, I do have the folder and the TNT 4.4.rar file is in it.

Help?
