I just got mine, charged it up, which took almost 4 hours, and I did the update to 3588. My Micro SD cards don't work. I tried two brand new cards just out of the packaging. Both are Kingston 4GB. It says "Damaged SD Cards. Do you want to format?" I chose Yes, and it doesn't do anything. It doesn't format them.

Mine did that too with the stock software. Reads the SD cards fine with the TNT ROM.

Ok, I formatted the card in my computer, and then put it in the gTab, and it works now.

I flashed VEGAn, followed the steps to a T, installed Adobe Flesh, but when I try to open Market, the screen flickers with no error.

Any ideas? Searched XDA to no avail.

Roebeet,

Many, many, many thanks to you and the devs at xda and the Android communities at large!

I bought the G on the second woot hour and got mine yesterday. It took FedEx trains that long to reach Seattle from Dallas. Here are steps I did to install a ROM.

- Plugged into wall for roughly 3 hours to charge it up to green LED.
- Set up adb on W1ndozeXP including usb driver from Android SDK when the G was being charged.
- Unplugged from wall, powered on the G, set up Wifi. Seconds later the upgrade service app offered a 3588 OTA update. Said yes. Minutes later the G rebooted with the updated 3588 firmware.
- Played with the G for about half-an-hour. I observed that stock 3588 has a good Android experience but since this is my first Android tablet therefore I couldn't compare well. Stock was good but could be better...
- Plugged the G USB port to the W1ndoze box.
- Rooted with z4root app
- Copied GAdam update.zip and recovery\command to G root directory. I was impressed with roebeet's video on GAdam so I picked it to be the first ROM to play with
- Used adb to wipe data - perhaps this step is not needed at this point.
- Vol+ and PowerOn buttons together...
- Stock recovery invoked recovery\command and updated the G with the GAdam firmware
- Rebooted and...got looped... "notionink"..."adam"..."adam"..."adam"..."ad...
- Plugged the G USB port to the W1ndoze box
- Used adb to wipe data again. Yes adb does connect with the device even though it's looping at boot.
- Rebooted and voila an Adam UI popped up.

- Today I put videos and mp3s on to discharge the G. To completely discharge it I kept powering the G up, and it would shut down, after battery was drained to suck all life force out of it. I did not notice how long the last charge last but easily 3 hours of playing time.
- The G is getting charged right now with power off. I will leave it under charge for about 8 hours before unplugging to use. I will do a complete discharge and fully charge periodically to hopefully keep the power cycle from getting shorter over time. This is the same battery treatment I did to my MacbookPro.

Notice that I followed roebeet's advice to refrain myself from using CWM and so far it worked out quite well. Of course you need to set up adb or nvflash. I chose adb on a W1ndozeXP vmware virtual machine to achieve data wipe. adb is really cool. I can just install an app at the adb command line. How convenient!

I think I am almost set to show off "notionink", "vegan" et al. to my pals.
The only piece I would need before showing it off is a black gel case to hide the white label on the back. Heck I might just spray-paint it with semi-gloss black but that would not be good if I need to return the device for warranty work.

Any recommendation for a good case?

Again roebeet, appreciate your invaluable time helping the community out.

Duh! Am I not what I buy, crap?

Not too sure about this one - did you even get as far as the Google setup screen? You should get the setup screen to add your ID, then a TOS page then the Market. Suggestions: reboot, data wipe, reflash (in that order, if the previous change doesnt work).

I'm confused, why does everyone have to change this tablet (or root) to use this? Seems like it should work well right out of the box. Am I missing something? I feel like I need to be a programmer to understand some of these comments. Is it good enough to use right out of the box?

You don't have to at all - there are even users on XDA who leave it as stock (I appreciate those user btw, as they are usually the ones that give us a heads up on new firmware updates!).

You don't have to be a programmer - the update process is fairly painless and, in some cases, not much different than if you had to do a stock update. It only gets tricky if there are problems that need to be troubleshooted. But, if you've been following allow this thread, you'd see that even stock users are having strange problems. Some basic tech and troubleshooting skills are really necessary with this device most of the time, unfortunately.

Clockworkmod actually helps to fix some basic issues that would otherwise require you to return the device. I know that I don't recommend cwm, but that's only for flashing firmware. For everything else like doing backups and wiping user data, it's an extremely helpful tool. And rooting allows you to do a few basic things like backup your user data that you cant do without it. Think "administrative" access on our PC, same idea.

So, it's entirely up to you.

This is (unfortunately) normal. All the Tegra 2 devices seem to have this issue.

doomeyes wrote:I'm an Android noobie, so excuse my ignorance about this question. Using my gTablet, I went to Amazon, and I installed the Amazon app store. How come I can't do the same on the Google app market?

Google, for some bizarre reason, limits where its Market can be installed. This is just what they want, for reasons unknown (they claim its because the devices have to meet certain requirements).

What do I need to be aware of?

Only one caveat with cwm, which is that it cannot Flesh the bootloader when flashing firmware.

What that means TODAY is that the risk is low to use cwm - all the mods on XDA are based on the same 1.1-based firmware from Viewsonic, so flashing the bootloader doesn't seem to be required. However, there's no guarantee that this might not change in the future.

The reason why you need to keep this in back of your mind is that the Notion Ink Adam users recently got burned with clockworkmod (their new firmware REQUIRED a bootloader update) and the Viewsonic UAT ROM that was recently pulled also needed it. So it's possible that a future stock firmware could need stock recovery. If we find this to be the case, we'll advertise it over in XDA.

I built the 3588 Rocovery Pack as a way to flip back to stock recovery, if needed.

It could have been mistakenly delivered to a wrong address. You should check with FedEx and notify woot.

When FedEx tracking stated that mine was delivered and left at door I opened my front door and it was sitting there. The delivery guy did not knock at all when he delivered an hour earlier.

Good luck with tracking yours.

So far so good on rooting, I did play with TapNTap, after the update, it wasn't terrible. I did a nandroid backup in case I want it back.

So I see many of the guides & advice is to partition as 2048mb, 0mb. I also see that the second is swap. I come from linux, and I know swap can be a good thing, esp for a low ram system.

So, to enable swap on my GTab, is all I need to do set this non-zero, or will there be other steps? Or is this 0mb swap the reason we have to repartition.

Hi,roebeet

Thanks for your help here. I am using TnT4.4, and just ran into this input method issue, hope you can help me.

I downloaded the "Google pinyin"(which is a Chinese input method) from market. When I try to select the method in "Language&keyboard" setting menu, a window saying "Use this input method?" popped out. After choosing "OK", nothing happened, the method just can not be selected.

I used to use 256, but later used 0 as the devs thought that Android wasn't using it (so wasting space). It can't hurt to use 256, but may not be used.

Well, after much awaiting the tablet showed up this afternoon. I'm happy to report, that it came with no signs of prior use and after an hour of charging started up with no problems. Connected to wifi and updated with no issues. Angry birds worked fine no black screens or any other reported problems.

I messed with stock rom for a while, then installed VEGAN, which matches my G2 stock rom to the extent, that I can hit the ground running using it. Added ADW launcher, because the inherited from phone 4x4 home screen on the tablet looked kind of weired. After messing with market got it to show all apps and able to install my purchased apps.

Restored a bunch of apps along with app data from my phone's backup and now I have a fully functonal tablet!

Now that I've used it for a few hours I can tell - with those easy to install changes this tablet rocks. The viewing angles are a bit of a pain, but for the price it is very well worth it. A happy camper here.

For record: last part of the second batch, 4.1lbs.

Posting this from the tablet.

For those of you who still have the box your unit was sealed and shipped in, there's a kind of rubber pad glued to the top inside of that box that can be peeled off.

I'm exploring the idea of adhering that pad to the back of my tablet to provide a very nice non-slip surface and avoid scratches (since the back is reportedly prone to scratches).

Not sure I will do that yet ultimately but the size is right, so I kept it instead of tossing it.

Got mine safely in SoCal. Brand spanking new, no smudges or scratches, everything nicely packaged and sealed. Installed a screen protector & carbon fiberish skin from Amazon that beat the tablet here. Plugged the charger in for 10 minutes, signed into my wifi & let the OTA update run before using blendblog's instructions to install VEGAN. Had to do the market hack to get launcher pro but I can't seem to find PEWPEW even after multiple market hack attempts. It's no iPad for sure but it's not that far off, certainly considering the price. Pretty neat so far but I reserve final judgement 'til Honeycomb ROMs are available.

I edited my "I finally got it post" with this but since it was pages ago I thought I'd post it again.

noticed that min already had the 3588 update installed was wondering if others in the second batch also had it?

Still playing with stock but tomorrow will probably install on of the roms.

Had some problems connecting to my router, tried all the tips without luck and finally decided I'd deal with it tomorrow. Turned off the wifi setting then turned it bak on and it connected no problem.

So you may want try just shutting down the wifi on the tablet and then turning it back on.

I didn't root and mod giving the installed OS a chance. I downloaded Flesh from the Viewsonic site and it's rubbish. Every time I touch a site with Flesh, the browser crashes instantly. I had to delete Flesh to visit sites I wanted.

Will it work better in a mod?
