It could actually be the version that VS is offering - I know that there was at least one cruddy version.

It you don't want to use the one you found, maybe try 10.2. You can probably find a version in XDA, or if you download TNT Lite 4.4.0, it's /system/etc/libflashplayer.apk in the update.zip file.

My GTab came brand new, as far as I can tell. I updated it and everything seems "fine", no mods yet (added Acrobat Reader).

The prob is with the USB. It's not reading at all. Of course I am looking in the usbdisk folder. I want to check here before I return or exchange the unit.

Of course I would appreciate any advice, thanks.

UPDATE-3 hrs later: Well, now it's working! I had problems with getting it to read sd cards as well.

New question: Would a mod "help" this BS? How? (just curious, short answer ok) Which one might address this best?

Huge thanks to all the helpers, y'all be da bomb!

Just a heads up for folks who buy things from Woot (in case there are any here): Once you get the Market working, your new favorite Android app is Parcels. Great app that works with a large number of delivery companies, including all forms of FedEx that Woot uses. And you can even add a SmartPost delivery to both FedEx and the USPS; once FedEx hands it off, you'll get much better info watching the USPS details. You can even watch it on a map, although this really only shows the stops where it's been logged, and not the entire trip. Great little app that Woot fans will love!

2 questions:
1) Say I purchased (& downloaded) a movie from Amazon, do I just copy it to the GTab & watch it? Or do I have to do something in between?

2) What if I try to root this myself & screw it up, can I somehow reset it back to the stock setup?

Got mine this afternoon here in Orange County. While charging it, I installed VEGAn and played with it. Not too crazy about that ROM, so I tried TNTLite. It seems more gTab-oriented, but for some reason the UI is somewhat sluggish. I'll keep playing with it.

BTW: Mine was absolutely pristine upon arrival.

I'm not entirely sure the Market is working right. For example: Launcher Pro doesn't show up, nor does IMDB. Had to install them via other avenues.

Is there a ROM out there designed specifically for Tablets? Same goes with Apps.

I put on the VEGAN ROM (great instructions from Sean by the way!) and it looks like a cell phone. It it full of phone related items. Also, many of the apps look like they were designed for a phone (iphone vs ipad). Is there a way in the apps store to only look for apps designed for a tablet?

And the screen angle is really bad. Any slight body movement and what you're looking at goes bad. Thinking this is more of a gadget then a real tablet. Not ready to part with my ipad yet (looking forward to that day though!). Hopefully android tablet apps continue to develop.

Thanks for all the great info on here.

Got the gtab. Great service and shipping. First time woot.

Now I ripped this thing open and it looked and smelled new too. But it does NOT power up all the time. When it does, it shuts off. Did a full charge on the battery. So its not that. Light was green. Got it to boot up about 2 times and shuts off. Im very disappointed. I cant play with this thing. (Thats what she said). I bought all these accessories for it and what not. Now I just dont want to deal with it. I are sad......

Time to email woot.

In the matter of security - when I had VEGAn5.1.1 installed, I was able to set a password to allow access on power-up. Now I'm trying TnTLite4.4 and I can't find a similar function. I understand that its fairly basic security, but at least it's something.

Secondly, I hate to show my ignorance but, other than that, I can't see much difference between the two "ROMs" - anyone have any pointers?

Well, now that most of the tablets have happily united with their owners (and some not so happily) this thread is beginning to wind down. None the less I'm going to ask a queston, just in case someone knows.

It is sad, that this tablet does not charge via usb, so the question of he day is - does anyone know of a decent cheap charger that would work with this guy? I can get a $15 universal charger at Amazon, it will probably have a proper tip and voltage selection. But sometimes there's a really cheap carger for a different gadget that just fits.

Anyone found one?

I'm not aware of ANY digital movie purchases that will work with Android. This is something that Apple has an advantage, over Google. Android has no DRM (digital right management) - it's also why things like Netflix are still pending.

Whether this is good or bad is up to the user, of course.

If you mess things up a little, you can get back to stock using the stock instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842000

If you mess up VERY badly, you'll need nvflash, instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950

microSD(HC) - HC being the larger ones.

As an example, I own this one and it works fine: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-32GB-microSDHC-Memory-Package/dp/B003WGJYCY/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1301761887&sr=8-7

Keep in mind that the device does NOT mount the microSD to your PC, so you'd want a microSD reader to copy files (it's the fastest way).

Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), but there's no mod for the GTAB, yet. The 3.0 App Store has a tablet-specific section, but it's pretty small right now. Will take time to grow, I suspect.

Agreed on the angles, it's the one thing I really dislike about my GTAB. Expect to see IPS screens this year, like the ASUS Transformer.

Mine was the internal one - the only difference is the "command" text file. Internal has "SDCARD" in the text and microSD has "SDCARD2" in the text, that's the only difference.

Flesh 10.1 is already dated, you want 10.2. If you mod it, you can get it from the Market. Or, you can grab it from my TNT Lite 4.3.0+ ROM - it's in /system/etc, in the update.zip file.

tmk, there's nothing in TNT Lite but that VEGAn security is not really useful. They are both rooted ROMs so, if your device was stolen, anyone with adb would be able to easily pull down all the info in the user data.

Biggest advantage to this device security wise might be the proprietary plug -- after awhile the battery will die and unless another GTAB is found, the person who stole it won't be able to power it on!

Try gADAM if you want a UI that's REALLY different from TNT Lite or VEGAn. Some people love it, some people hate it. But it is pretty unique.

Check XDA as I think one user has a "3588 stock Enhancement Pack" - at least they did a week ago but it's probably buried now.

As for the menu, I think it's supposed to work but it could just be stock. I'm used to mods so it's hard for me to gauge stock too much, anymore. I heard others having issues like yourself, with stock.

I just tried Amazon and it works Full screen HD content looks very good. If your a prime member they have a lot of free content. Premium content, latest movies, still have a fee.

I'm glad Amazon works lets hope it stays that way but, since the have the new market place they have a vested interest so it should.

BTW Thanks Roebeet for all the information. This is my first tab so your information has been very helpful.

I used the stock ROM for a couple nights until I had time to change it out. Last night I switch it to Vegan.... wow brought this thing to life.

I was not aware of this at all (I'm glad my info is wrong!) - so Amazon movies will actually run via the browser / Flesh? I might need to buy a movie and try this for myself.

EDIT: hmmm, Prime Account possibly needed.

EDIT2: Hey, it does work! (I have a TV show I got for free, eons ago on there). Thanks again - you learn something new every day.

Still, it's not optimal as you need an Internet connection. But, at least it's a start. I keep hoping that Netflix works out their Android issues soon.

There is one: http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet/GTUG010411/G%20Tablet%20User%20Guide%2001.04.11.pdf ; I got to it by going to the main gTablet page (URL in the printed Quick Start Guide that shipped with the device) and clicking on the Support tab. (There's also a web-based version of the UG, but I found it much less satisfactory than the PDF.)
The guide assumes a different initial process than we (or at least I) got, but once I figured out the Home screen vs. the Dashboard, the guide was useful.

So found widgets when changing wallpaper; added the 'power control' (and don't know what several of the buttons do) and want to remove it from the desktop but don't see how to!

The wallpaper and widgets are both covered on p. 18 of the UG PDF, under "Menu", and I removed a widget from the screen by dragging it to the trash can, discussed also on p. 18.
As you will see from subsequent posts, you aren't the only one who feels ancient dealing with this -- and I'm only playing around with the stock ROM !

Just in case someone else is having the same issue I was: I wanted to download the Amazon appstore app, but was having no luck signing into Amazon via the stock web browser. (It kept saying there was a problem with my email/password combo, which I made sure was correct.)

Solution: I reviewed my extracts from this thread, and found the URL I'd used when trying out the Android emulator: http://amzn.to/getappstore . Once I had downloaded and installed that apk, I had no trouble signing in via it.

(And speaking of app stores: I think I have understood that it is not possible to get to the Google app store from the stock ROM. Correct?)

Wonder if anyone has seen this yet: I installed the free version of Titanium Backup and, in batch mode, I ran a full backup of apps and system data. Now Android Market's My Apps section thinks I don't have any apps installed. Is there a way to refresh My Apps' memory short of reinstalling everything? (I've already tried a restore -- no dice.) Thanks!

Edit:
Solved this via an XDA post. Someone said this is supposed to happen, although they didn't say why. But the solution is to go to Settings > Applications > find Market (in TnTL it's under System Applications) > Force stop > Clear data > Clear cache. Back out to the launcher and tap the Market to start it, and see if your apps are under My Apps. If not, repeat. Mine took two tries, but everything's there now.
