So make a long story short I had to get my original tablet replaced with a another one so Woot sent me my replacement and I got it yesterday. I booted it up and connected it to my wireless and no update. I read the post where Roebeet stated on Woots site that possibly Viewsonic killed the 3588 deployment.

I got to thinking this morning and decided to call Viewsonic to see if this was true or if I have another bad tablet. She stated to the best of her knowledge the 3588 update should still be deploying to tablets that don't have it. She gave me a few things to try when I get home to the tablet and I did (one of them including a factory reset) and still no go but I did get the gtablet welcome screen which I never saw when I first booted it up. Now she said to call back later as she will inform herself if there were in fact something coming up to stop the 3588 update.

Well I called back and got a different rep. He was able to pull the support case by my phone number and he had me try a few more things including another reset and still no go on the update. He to said the 3588 update should be still running and he in fact told me he had two "wooters" call in today for some help and their tablets updated to 3588. So we checked a few more things and he suggested that I contact woot to get another replacement or I could start an RMA with Viewsonic which I don't want to do. He also suggested going to the xda forums and asking if anyone knew where the update information gets stored/cached and if it can get cleared to see if it'd update after clearing. Oh and the rep also hinted that the new update should be coming any day now but he didn't know exactly when.

The last rep said I could wait a few days and see if the update comes but I'm afraid that the update won't come out then. The rep himself said he wasn't sure himself and thats when he told me to contact Woot.

So I'm asking, has anyone else had an issue yesterday or today in getting the 3588 update?

Does anyone have any thing I try to get the update to run.

Ok so posted on the XDA forums and someone said there was a thread about this already and looks like I'm not the only one experiencing this.

Now I hope Woot doesn't send me another tablet as I've already sent an email to let them know I was having issues. I hope Woot communicates back to before they do anything.

I hope this helps someone in some way - but please note that I am completely android & tablet illiterate. I purchased the tablet early on in the workday, around 9 a.m. eastern. It arrived on 03/30, but was a birthday gift for the hubby, and so it wasn't opened until today. It's pristine - obviously sparkling factory new ( no saran wrap to remove from screen; but everything shiny, no fingerprints, no scratches, everything twist-tied ). Tonight, trying to do everything "right", I fully charged it first. Then I plugged in the USB cord to my PC and turned it on. It fired in and recognised that it was hooked-up, asking me if I wanted to link. I did ( and being the most anal person anybody has ever met ) I actually made a CD back-up of the original contents. Upon unplugging it, I then took it out to the web and registered it - no problem. But never did it, in several re-boots, give me a screen requesting such, and when I go to the menu to request that it do an update, it says that I am up to date. Also, it is now no longer recognized by my PC at all when plugged into the USB ( so I can't use the silly restore CD to take it back to zero ). Anyway; the info it shows me is:
Version: 1.1-3389
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-00000-10.8.2-dirtyhudson@tapntapsvn #15
Build: FRF91
Again; I hope this helps. I also cannot seem to get it to do the update - but am hoping that further info. posted here may provide some clarification as to why that is so.

Look at the post right above yours. It looks like the problems with the update are on Viewsonic's end.

As far as reconnecting it to your computer, once you connect it, you need to tell the Gtab that you are using it as a USB storage device. I am no longer running the stock ROM, but I believe stock still has the setting show up in the notification bar at the top of the screen when it is connected. You have to drag tthe bar down and click the icon and turn on the USB device.

Yep, I actually tweeted Viewsonic yesterday AND called their CS department as well. Their OTA (over the air) updater has been down for three days, now. Not so bad for Wooters as you are at 3389, at least. TigerDirect users, on the other hand, seem to be on 2963 which is the original buggy-as-heck firmware.

My GTAB is sitting at 2967 stock, as I wait to see when this problem gets resolved (did that so I could keep testing their OTA updater). I don't fault Customer Service as they probably weren't informed, but someone at the management level should be doing something about this - it's getting ridiculous, now.

3389 is a decent baseline, if you want to run a mod. And it's not too bad even if you want to keep stock. But, anyone with this problem should tweet them and call them tomorrow - let them know that I'm not the only one who's complaining. Thanks!

Oh, so OTA was still down. I was going out of my mind trying to update the crappy 1.0-2368.

I did the regular update.zip thing to go to 3588. Now I'm looking all over for TnT Lite 5.0. That XDA forum is a cluster-f. I'd sooner find a lost contact in carpet than whatever I'm looking for in the forum.

Anyone knows if there is anything I should know before I upgrade to TnT Lite 5. nvflashing was fairly easy, so I guess it doesn't matter.

What about the phone part of TnT Lite? Is it still in 5.0?

Edit: Saw a link to TnT Lite archives with info on 5.x but it's dead. Halp?

Edit2: I'm a morron, never read past the OP. Info on 5.0 is further down in the TnT Lite thread

Edit3: Awww, I'd more than likely have to do a data wipe. Gotta think about this. Not sure if it's worth it. Come on ViewSonic, give us something new! I want this to be faster!

HELP!

My gTab keeps eating my video and photo files. I have a 32GB card on which I put music, photos and video folders. I put lots of files in each folder and they play and display fine. After I power down and back up, only the music files remain. All the files in the other folders have been deleted.

Any ideas, anyone?

I'm running VEGAn and 3588

I've had same problem with mine. It's a known issue with Vegan involving the external sd card. I moved my media files to the internal sdcard. If you check the XDA site there is a discussion with a possible workaround.

You should buy "MicroSD" card instead of SD card.

Thanks - I looked on XDA and found hundreds of pages and a "fix" involving putting an empty file named ".nomedia" on the external sd card. Some say it worked and some say it didn't.

I could not find a definitive answer as to whether this "bug" is fixable or will be fixed, but isn't it a REALLY serious bug for any system to delete files without permission?

I copied a video file to the MicroSD card yesterday, verified that it played OK (though I had to reboot the tablet to get it to "mount" the card - I couldn't find any other way to make the content of the card visible), and then tried to show the video to a friend at lunch today, but I couldn't find it.

Not a major issue in this case, because it was just a file that I copied on to test the functionality of the system, but I'd consider it a fairly major issue.

OK, I've been playing with my gtablet for a while now. Still using the stock OS. After complaining about Google Market, I got a response from them.

"Thank you for your note. I can understand your frustration on this issue. However your device is not supported for use with Android Market at this time. This is due to the manufacturer of your tablet not meeting the guidelines of Android Market."

So, what did ViewSonic do wrong? Google doesn't realize that they're screwing not only those who purchase this but their own developers. Every time someone has a "buy" link in their app, it goes to a market I can't use and can never pay the programmers.

I'd also like to send out a warning about Springpad, seeing as how I'm still ticked off at that one. I thought I found a great way to go paperless, and also type most the notes on my laptop. The web work synced with the Droid, but the Droid didn't sync with the web, and all my added notes got erased when the web re-synced with the Droid. So watch out for that. I've turned to Dropbox for now, since I can't find replacements for all the standard Palm apps. Even the Droid contacts app keeps crashing on me. Never had such issues with Palm.

You probably wouldn't be having such issues with a custom ROM, either. The stock OS is garbage.

Anyone find the perfect case/lean-to type gadget for this thing? Like that new magnetic cover for the Ipad?

There's that pleather case with the usb keyboard, but I'm pretty sure the keyboard won't work on VEGAn...

Leaning toward the caselogic neoprene with pockets, but would prefer one with some kind base to give me a good angle.

Check out the accessories area in XDA - there's one user there "it2steve" that has a web portal with some cases for the GTablet. I have one of these cases for mine and I find it to be very nice.

Maybe this will help for those who want to stay with the Stock ROM for a while (3588) and are having "issues".

I had all sorts of issues with apps and just surfing vanilla sites - locking up after a few seconds and returning to Home. After some investigating, I noticed my Adobe Flesh Player on my tablet was downgraded to some earlier version. After updating to the latest Player, I also re-flashed the stock ROM - (power and + volume) - no mods installed. Since then, things are working much better. I know part was the earlier Player version, but unsure how much the ROM reflash helped. I did not have to reset any settings afterwards.

If you are using the stock ROM and have basic, "can't use the tablet" issues, it can't hurt trying. I'm new to android, and hoping ViewSonic will push a new ROM out. I will ROM later, but now able to use Dolphin HD makes life with this tablet more enjoyable.

Doesn't sound right to me - for microSD's, I know 32GB works (FAT32) as I own one. And I've tested USB thumb drives up to 8GB with no issues (again, FAT32).

The only thing I can think of is that the device doesn't like how they are formatted.

I can read a 128 MB (FAT32) and 1 GB (FAT32) USB drive. I can also read a 2 GB (FAT) SD card that's in my camera via USB or in my card reader via USB.

I cannot read an 8 GB (FAT32) SDHC card, whether it's in my camera via USB or in a card reader via USB.

I also cannot read a 300 GB (NTFS) external USB drive.

I neglected to check the microSD card's file system; it was borrowed for testing.

LOL it took so long for me to reply to the last one that I missed this one. Need more practice typing on this thing.... XD; Sorry for the double-post; mods, feel free to merge.

Anyway, formatting might explain why it doesn't like the NTFS drive, but the 8 GB SDHC card is in FAT32 format, so I don't see why it's not reading it. I know the USB host works since it can read the 2 GB card with no problem and I know it can read FAT32 since it can read my thumbdrives, which are also in FAT32.

Would really like to be able to use the 8 GB card since my camera eats MP for brekkies; don't want to have to keep swapping out cards, especially for the times when I'm shooting video.

The NTFS is a definite issue - you'd need a custom kernel and even with that it requires a manual mount.

But for FAT32, it should "just work" - I have a 16GB SDHC that I just tried with a card reader, using the full USB port - worked A-OK and I'm actually running an ancient 2967 stock build, at the moment (using it to see when the OTA updater will get fixed).

Just out of curiosity, is there a custom kernel for reading from NTFS drives? It isn't on my "required" list, but it'd be cool if there were doable anyway.

But that really bums me out that FAT32 should work properly out of the box and it's weird it's only having problems with cards larger than 2 GB. I didn't think to check with the stock ROM before flashing it so now I don't know if it's a software or hardware issue. Is it possible to Flesh it back to stock with one of the Recovery Firmware Images in the FAQ thread (874258) over at XDA? Do you think doing that would help?

Roebeet - I prefer your TnTLite except for one thing - I really like the "screen unlock by drawing a pattern" that VEGAn includes. Any way I can add that capability into TnTLite? I tried looking for an apk in VEGAn's system.img but winzip won't let me look in there!

I'm using a Sandisc 32GB micro SDHC card with consistent success in the tablet, but very spotty results in various PCs and Window$ versions. Sometimes they can read it, sometimes not. Some adaptors work, some of the time. There's no consistency and it's very frustrating. Maybe the technology isn't quite there yet for so much data on such small chips?

So the new Cyanogen 7.0 mod sounds worth checking out. If we've previously modded the tablet, can we just follow the instructions on that wiki page normally? Or should we use nvflash to bring our tablet back to its original state first? (If it matters, I installed CWM .8 and TnTL 4.4.)

This is such a great little device. Last night was Chicago's first really nice night, and I sat out on my porch and watched the Red Sox shut out the Yankees with SlingPlayer. Thanks to roebeet and all of the devs for taking something good and making it so much better!

Roebeet - I prefer your TnTLite except for one thing - I really like the "screen unlock by drawing a pattern" that VEGAn includes. Any way I can add that capability into TnTLite? I tried looking for an apk in VEGAn's system.img but winzip won't let me look in there!

That lockscreen is embedded in the framework itself - TNT Lite didn't even have a lockscreen at all until recently (the vendor added it with the 3991 build that they never officially released, but we lifted from their firmware).

If you read my rant in XDA, I was actually contacted from someone in Viewsonic this afternoon and we had a nice chat (I actually did most of the talking). I'm hoping that we'll see some things addressed like the OTA updater, very soon.

I'm actually a bit surprised that my complaints actually got their attention, today.
