I enjoy the sheer number of people claiming this was more fair than people with "scripts", of course most of them were lucky enough to actually be worthy of being able to order.

They were lucky and managed to avoid the woot server meltdown, where people did all of the requirements and were denied the chance to order.
And did not have to deal with the "game" still being in place after it was clear it would not allow anyone to order, but it was allowed to continue to run denying people who "won" the promised chance to order.

That is an awesome case study Amazon did not mention in their sales pitch for the server cloud, that it fails under load.

It is fun seeing people complain about the people using scripts and plugins, who were willing to spam a url into their browser to bypass the mechanism, its only cheating when someone else gets it instead of them I guess.

Then we have the "game" itself that actually did create unwinnable situations quite often, and the fact it was hacked shortly after it came back after the server meltdown.

And we can touch on the ADA issues of people who lack motor control to work several keys at once, but they are just whiners. We need to make sure people who are disabled get blocked just like those damn script users.

Subtract posts made by people who were able to get an order placed calling other people whiners and you will find many more posts from customers frustrated and upset.

I'm not going to scream and stomp my foot and tell Woot to burn in hell or anything that dramatic.

I am going to point out your "fun" idea and its flawed implementation damaged your brand.

Your inability to manage a planned Big o' Cosmos event after this many of them really calls into question the skill of your IT staff and resources.

The fact for hours URLs were being posted bypassing the game, and you rewarded people who broke the "rules".

The lacking explanation of how the game worked that drove off many customers who saw a repeat of level 1 as a cruel prank by woot and assumed the whole offering was a joke.

But I guess those who did not get to place an order because of the massive failures on your end can just be called whiners, that builds brand loyalty in an overflowing DOTD market.

In the end, I did not get a Big o' Cosmos and I think I won. I beat the game multiple times but your server had failed. I saw the urls posted and didn't cheat to win, even though I "deserved" it. I didn't spam the boards with expletives. And other than a bit of deserved snark I've held my temper. I said my piece and your probably going to ignore it, but then we are not to expect customer service.

For heaven's sake people - it's a Big Orphaned Cetacea. Nothing more and nothing less. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. This had nothing to do with customer service. I've been here for six years through MANY O' SERVER ERROR and haven't managed to find my way off a bridge or into a tree.

The handsfree car thing was yesterday's Woot.

I think falling scam for something involves willfully putting out something of value for a supposed guaranteed result...I'm equally certain Woot pretty much says "screw you and good luck if you want to waste your time with our Jatravartid impediments to our bag of cheap crap." That's kinda the opposite of scam, that's us consumers admitting we're humans, I think.
