mine just got dropped off (working from home today). the tab is inside a shrink-wrapped box inside the woot box, so i think you're safe from rain.

Will this charge via USB off of a laptop while I find out how/when I can get the correct plug adapter?

This is my first Woot purchase and I was hoping to take along on an upcoming trip.
Thanks.

Weird. When it was on sale it clearly listed

In the box:
ViewSonic gTablet 10.1” PC Android 2.2 (UPS300-2.2)
USB Cable
Power Adapter
Cleaning Cloth
ESD Cover
User Guide
Quick Start Guide

Was yours in shrinkwrap when you got it?

Mine had the US plug adapter, thankfully.

It was in shrinkwrap. ? strange ? Is there any indication that it is charging, or does the light turn green only after fully charged? I have it connected via USB to the laptop hoping it will charge like my phone does.

I'm still working, so no time to play with this beyond getting it on the charger for an initial power-up, but the viewing angle issue doesn't look nearly as painful as some have made it sound. maybe i've got lower standards ;-)

There's an LED lower left that is red while charging, and which turns green when fully charged. It otherwise does not light as far as I have seen.

I don't believe this tab can charge off USB no.

As far as I know USB will not charge it. Not enough juice through the line. With a wall charger you get a red light when charging and a green light when full.

It really seems as if the screen is upside down. When viewing with the soft keys on the right, as soon as you started to tilt it away from you, it goes to hell fast, but if you turn it over, it's not as bad. Unfortunately (dont know if this is true with all ROMs or not) Vegan Ginger only support rotation to both portrait side, but only the camera up landscape side. Would be nice if you could use it camera down. Seems to have better angle that way.

I wonder why no one reads the manuals on these things when they spend this much money.

#1 It clearly says on the little pamphlet that came with the tablet in the box "Fully charge before using.

Anyways I received mine a few days ago and didn't have time to play with it much. Today I turned it on and it booted right up just fine. Connected to my wifi it detected updates and installed them.

Well... now when I turn it on I get the viewsonic log with the birds, then the viewsonic word logo... then where the ntouchtap whatever its called is supposed to appear it now does not and the screen just sits there blank.

I turned it off and on again a few times and it finally came up, but now it is doing it again. Seems like every 5-10 turn ons it will boot into the OS...

Anyone have any ideas? A bad update?

Other than that, the instruction on XDA were great. Loaded all my regular phone apps including the Amazon app store and copied all those programs over as well with no problems. Now that I know how easy it is, I may still try out the older Froyo version, just to see the difference in video quality, but other than that, I am loving it.

Same here. No adapter plug. Plus the power adapter thing was in a plastic bag that originally was taped shut, but mine had a piece of tape with paper stuck to it and the paper color isn't anything that was inside the box. Not cool Woot. Looks like you are selling (poorly packaged) refirb items as new. I could have bought this from Tiger or the Egg for a few buck more, had it here sooner, and not have any issues.

So now I have a really useless $280 purchase.

Mine was shrink wrapped but was missing the power "adapter" thing that snaps on to the actual power inverter box so that you can plug it into the wall.

No users guide either.

Looks like a refirb sold as new to me.

Just emailed service@woot.com.... Hopefully they will come through or I am going to REALLY be ticked off.

Mine came today. So far, so good.

I didn't even bother with the Tapntap that everyone complained about. I looked up the guides that are online and rooted/changed the ROM. Using Vegan-Tab Ginger Edition. Not sure if I like it or not.

Everything went smoothly except for changing the ROM. The instructions I was reading said to change the ROM to update.zip and then run the update, but what eventually worked was copying the ROM over as-is (not changing the name) and extracting that file.

My charger was in two pieces - the main part, and then the small adapter so that it actually plugs into the wall. My sympathies to anyone who can't use their tablet today because it's missing.

Totally agree!! I have a Archos 101 as well which has the exact screen and it is set the opposite way so you can see it easily while sitting on a flat surface. Flip the Gtab upside down to and look at it while it is laying flat to know what I mean. Oh well...

Ok...

I did figure out how to recover from the issue with the G Tablet messing around and stuff.

If you power on the device while holding the +Volume switch down, it will boot into recovery mode where the factory data image is available to re-flash the device before updates.

It also allows for the selection of an SD card to boot and flash from.

You scroll options on menu by pressing the - + volume switch, then you hit power again to select which option you would like.

When I had the Elocity A7 this was how I flashed it with the XDA firmware for that device using the update.zip on an sd card and using the recover mode to select that option. Might work for some of you if you have problems.

@Woot I have heard and seen a lot of feedback from users regarding shipping and now issues with the devices not containing all advertised parts within the box upon arrival.

It really would be nice to hear something from one of the admins or reps. Almost anything really.

Are these brand new?

To my knowledge all companies make mistakes and this is not a big deal (even though people suggest it may be) the big deal to me is when the problems are ignored/go uncorrected. A company that can correct it's issues or the issues of it's vendor has a great reputation in my eyes regardless of mistakes.

My tablet came with everything just fine... But can we get some feedback for the other users please?

Mine arrived around 10pm tonight... FedEx must be working late tonight. Mine was shrink wrapped, with everything except a manual. I had already found the manual online, so that's no big deal.

It's charging now, so I haven't gotten to play with it yet. Hopefully I don't have any issues. Anyone know how long it takes to fully charge?

I feel rather Jatravartid so maybe others can profit from my stupidity. I was using the clockworkmod to attempt to flash the ROM to Vegan Beta 5.1. In particular, it is important for me not to lose the acceleration on video associated with Gingerbread.

Using clockworkmod there is a listing to install sdcard:update.zip. This is not the external SDCARD that is in the slot. It will use the copy of update.zip that is stored on the internal memory. This is different from my other tablets. It took me copying my updating ROMs to the internal memory and running the update within clockworkmod to get it running correctly with Vegan.

Just as a general question, do you all pull out your tablets when going through a TSA inspection at airports? My Kindle isn't required to come out, so it makes me wonder if they meet the same exemption.

At the office, waiting for the FedEx guy. Cause if I miss it today, it'll be Tuesday before this is delivered.

Hopefully, they won't just see the business park and skip it. They have in the past.

USPS is at least consistent about when they show up and such.

Update:
At the front door of the office from 9 am, at 10:30 I get an update saying they tried to deliver at 10:08 but no one was there.

Called the customer service, they said, well since this was FedEx home and the address was an office, they didn't attempt delivery, they just marked it as such.

LIARS! FedEx lies to customers.

They are now sending out a truck, since I complained, but as far as I'm concerned FedEx is not to be trusted.

Howdy, all.
I got my gtab yesterday. Looks new. Charged fine. Looks to be 3389.
OTA'ed to 3588. All stock stuff.
Ran ok. Stock Calendar forced closed. Got gmail to work.
I wanted to try 4349 but apparently it has been taken out of service by VS OTA.
Anyone has successfully updated to 4349 by forcing it via nvflash, cmw or copying it over..etc? Thanks in advance

Wow. The Rain X really works! Put on it on with a micro fibre cloth, let it dry, rubbed it off, added another coat, and rubbed it off. It truly cuts down on the amount of finger prints.

Excellent. This thing sure is a fingerprint magnet. I've been using some of the TON of lens cleaner packets I've got laying around to keep it clean.

On another note relating to an earlier inquiry of mine about bluetooh tethering the tablet to my cell phone for internet access: ya, but no. In retrospect Android is an OS for a phone first and foremost, so to tether to another phone makes no sense.

Right now I am up in ME with no WiFi. What I was able to do was tether my MBP to the cell, then share the internet connection via WiFi. IOW my MBP is now a hot spot using the phone. Ya, with the MBP tethered what's the point right? The point is "because I can" :-D

Anyone on Vegan 5.1.1, or the gTab in general, having what seems like battery degradation?

When I first charged it and replaced the ROM, the batt was at 100% when pulled from the charger. After running down to the 20s%, I charged it up to green again. But when I pulled the plug it said only 96%. I popped it on the charger for a while more, but it still stayed at 96%.

That said it still ran all day it seemed, but I didn't think to watch the clock.

So I ran it down all the way and charged overnight. Unplugged this morning: 95%! And within 5' of doing some emails it dropped to 92%.

I'm sticking it back on the charger with the unit turned on so I can monitor what the meter says as it charges.

after a few days of playing with this tablet, I am still very happy with my purchase. I added a bunch of apps, but have kept it otherwise stock. Picked up a nice carry case from Five Below for $5.

I would definitely recommend this tablet to my friends.
