I'll just put register my experience as good. Got my "famous maker" monitor 2 days ago (it's an HP) and have been configuring with Windows updates and installing my software ever since.

The keyboard is a pile of poo though. I'll be replacing that with something that I can touch-type on pretty quick.

Overall, as a person upgrading from a vintage 2005 1.6GHz Celeron CPU in a Sony notebook, this is a major upgrade I'm pretty happy with.

Another DOA - ASUS logo lights up, but fans and drives don't spin up. We opened it up and made sure everything was tight and properly connected. On the line with ASUS now.

seems random - sometimes after a couple minutes of being powered on.

Guess i get to call ASUS and see what the return policy is.
bummer

Having a similar problem. Random BSOD. Often during boot-up. Sometimes while idle. Any idea what is causing this? What experience did you have with ASUS customer service?

Buyer beware:

Mine didn't even finish going through the first time setup before I got a BSOD. Tried restoring the OS, no luck, got a BSOD doing that as well. Pretty much crashes every time I try to boot it.

After a week finally got an RMA number from ASUS, but they are making me pay for shipping. UPS wants $42 to ship ground and insure. So much for saving $. So now I am out over $620, and I get to wait a few weeks to get another refurb from Asus. Hope that one works (clearly they didn't test this one very well).

Welp, I got mine about two weeks ago. The HDD was unplugged, which I found weird, but it was fine after that...until a few days ago.

I started getting SMART error warnings that the harddrive's death was immenent. I backed up ran a bunch of diagnostics, and tentatively continued to use it for a few days until it bit the dust. Strangely, it can still function if the case is severely tilted, which makes me think it wasn't seated properly.

Started the process for returning with ASUS. By the way, what did you guys use for proof of purchase? They rejected the confirmation e-mail, so I'm printing out the receipt, scanning, and hoping that's good enough. All that came in the box was a packing list : /

I got a BSOD on the first pass as well. It did boot back up and I ran a disk check. I ran it three times before it finally came back with no errors. Each time it found a few less. It is working great now. Hopefully it will last a while. Posting this from it.

Send it back to Woot, they will pay for the shipping to get your refund. Might be doing that with mine, BSOD until it warms up.

Well mine started crashing yesterday. It works great for about an hour then it just dies. So you might want to stay away from these ASUS refurbs.

I got 2 of these machines, one works fine but the other blue-screens a lot, it started even when I was going through the Windows setup. I've tried doing all the Windows updates but it's still doing it. I ran a memory diagnostic and didn't get any errors. Looks like I'll have to send it back. Too bad, the other one is a real screamer. Naturally, the bad one is the one my wife uses for games, she's NOT a happy camper. Any of you guys got any ideas? I made recovery disks from the good machine, will restoring them to the bad machine replace the Windows files? It looks like a Windows corruption thing to me.

My experience has been similar to everyone else's, Blue Screen on first boot, and random Blue Screen a lot of the time, Firefox always crashes for no reason (and won't successfully run until I restart). I was also unable to install any of the ATI software (Drivers, Catalyst) that I found on the ATI site. I kept getting weird errors and blue screens.

It's really a shame that it came with no discs whatsoever- no OS, Motherboard Drivers.

Today I reformatted and installed Windows XP (as well as put a new power supply in). So far no problems! Fortunately I had a bunch of drivers downloaded from the Asus site already burned to a CD for this particular model/OS. They do make it very difficult in that they don't just have a downloadable driver pack for the cg1330. I had to download the LAN, Audio, all that stuff in separate .zip files. I got everything downloaded ahead of time because I had a feeling nothing was going to work after the OS install.

I'm still missing a few drivers, but it's up and running more stable than it was when it first arrived, and I don't mind the "downgrade" to XP at all. If anyone knows a good place to find a driver pack for that MB, please post a link. I'll post again if I run into any more problems.

So, check back in a day or so and let us know if the fresh OS install fixed your blue screen problem. If that does it, I might be able to make an image from my machine and put it on my wife's since they are identical.

No More Blue Screens. Just weird firefox crashes with the new firefox 4. downgraded to earlier firefox and no problems. Still searching for a couple drivers. Also, it recogizes 4 removable drives that do not exist, but appear in My Computer for some reason. Other than some weird quirks like that, it's completely functional now.

oh, and the nonexistent removable drives I spake of are the card readers, I've determined.

Yea, I'd like to hear if this works, too. I've had failures on three out of four ASINT memory modules after testing with memtest86. Makes me think it's a problem with the motherboard or the CPU. Can't imagine all those modules being bad, unless they're mislabelled or mismatched. However, after replacing all four 2GB modules with two Kingston HyperX 4GB modules, I haven't seen a BSOD in over a week now. Has anyone else tried switching out the memory?

All I can say is I ordered mine on April 9, 2011 and have sent it back for the 3rd time. It has NEVER even booted up. The supervisor gave me permission to open the box while he was on the phone and confirmed that the hard drive was not powering up. The first time I sent it back, though it clearly said there was a hard drive issue, they replaced 3 memory sticks. Of course, the system still did not boot up. Sent back a second time. They "plugged in the HDD power cord which was loose". It wasn't we checked that before sending it back. Again, it didn't work. It's back for the 3rd time. Still has never booted up, but we'll see if the 3rd time is the charm. Meanwhile, I've set up www.asus-sucks.com. It's just getting started, but it's there if you need to vent.. or brag.

On our 3rd return now...blue screens, blue screens, blue screens. We keep sending it back and they don't seem to do anything but repack it and return it to us. We suspected they were just trying to run down the 90-day warranty but on the last call the rep said each repair is warranted for a further 90 days. Hmmm. Well, are they just trying to frustrate us into giving up, considering the cost of returning it each time? The thing crashes when it's not even doing anything, just sitting there....as I type this on our ancient laptop, the ASUS is repeatedly crashing and restarting itself. Maybe it's time to contact the BBB? ASUS is obviously not interested in providing us with a working machine. We've never even tried to run any games or real programs--haven't had the opportunity, this lemon won't let us get that far.
