Ringo4422 wrote:Oh! You are among so many that got suckered into the 1080P marketing hype. You will NEVER see the difference between 720P and 1080P with a screen of this size. Even with Xray eyes.

size doesnt matter. there are benefits to both resolutions, but a 1080p bluray on a 32" absolutely looks better than a 720p bluray on a 32". you're telling me that having over twice as many displayed pixels wont be a noticeable difference? have you ever compared the 2 yourself? b/c i have and it's noticeable.

also, 720p is nearly useless when used as a computer screen, which more and more people are doing. 1080p is the only way to go when using it as a screen or HDTV with HD content.

720p is, however, better at displaying native 720 content. if the signal or source is only available in 720p it will look better on a 720p TV than a 1080p b/c the 1080p HDTV will upscale the signal to fill the screen. this creates pixelation and blurriness.

now whether it's worth the extra money or not is an entirely different subject...

Bought one of these a few months ago. Great TV, works perfect. 720p is fine for a 32".

I'm on a currently 20" DCLCD I got from CompUSA/Tiger Direct and bought a 26" LED 720p backlit VIZIO this last black Friday from Wal-Mart for ~$200. It is a fine TV, great for the bedroom but sucks as a monitor...text doesn't display clearly.

Wanna try that math again? $254.99 ($249.99 + $5) < $257 ($239 + $18)

Though it is pretty close to a push -- But I'd add in the Square Trade Wnty too.

I have a Sony Bravio 32" and Love it, it's also 1080 though and it plays HD amazingly.

I'm going to guess that this TV doesn't do it as nicely.

Yeah. I don't think TVs make good monitors. I just know that size matters. Especially when you're running software with lots of tool panel windows. 50% of my screen is filled with tool panels.

Read the fine print..."31.5 inches" - is the one on Amazon really 32 inches? Now THAT would be worth the extra clams...

As a matter of fact I did compare them, at a Sony store last Saturday. There they were 2 basically identical Sony 32" TVs, one 720P and one 1080P side by side, same programming displayed. I asked the salesman why does the 720p one actually look better than the 1080i one? He didn't know but agreed the 720 actually was clearer in all aspects than the 1080p. Could the 1080p one be broken? I don't think so. The feed was 720P and the 1080i set artifically filled the lines with garbage and data yielding a lower quality picture (pixelation artifacts).

No -- we're in drought & under a burn ban . . . apparently the rain does fall on the just and the unjust, just not us . . . ;-)

I usually only buy on Wine.Woot, so not sure how long regular Woot shipping takes.

if they were hooked to the same source/signal then the 1080p TV would have been displaying a 720p picture upscaled, meaning you werent showing a 1080p signal. i said a 720p source will look better on a 720p TV. there's no way around that. if you have a 1080p display with a 1080p source (bluray, PC, directv, etc) then there will be a noticeable difference. unless the TVs were using sources geared for their displays the 720 will always look better.

I've heard everyone say that if you use a TV for a computer monitor it should be 1080p because 720p causes text to not show up as well.

Now the only time I plan on hooking my computer up to the TV is to watch TV shows off the internet so text shouldn't be to much of an issue. Will the picture be of decent quality?

LOL @ some of the comments in here: "We have one and the picture is great, blah blah."

Great if you want it for the kids, but sorry, Vizio is crap. Put this brand next to a Samsung or Sony and you'll see that the difference is night and day.

I would bite if it waqsn't a refurb. 720p doesn't bother me with the smaller screen. Besides, I won't be watching sports on a little screen like this anyway.

I have never, ever been disappointed with a Vizio product. I currently use a 36" Vizio TV and a wireless router that are both great performers. At this size, you will not be able to tell the difference between 720 and 1080.

This is a great deal if you need it.
