This thing hasn't been out very long at all... kind of makes one suspicious about its reliability if Woot is able to obtain a truckload of them that have already been refurbished.

I paid $400 for this thing and also locked myself into a 2 year agreement with Sprint for a $30/month (2GB max per month) data plan only 5 months ago, not it is considered old!

Does it come with a case?

You can bypass the activation screen on this very easily. All you have to do is:
1. Press “Volume Up” once.
2. Press “Volume Down” twice.
3. Press “Volume Up” three times.
4. Press “Volume Down” four times.

This is a great deal. Normally you'll see prices around $299 for a new unit, but that's WITH a contract. The one you are getting here is refurbished and without a contract which makes the deal far better.

If you aren't on Sprint, you might be thinking "I'll just buy the WiFi only version", however, I wouldn't recommend it. The WiFi only version is about as expensive as this Woot deal, but we've found information showing that it's uses less powerful hardware and more dated Bluetooth:

The Galaxy Tab is a snappy little device and Samsung has done a great job at modifying the stock Android phone interface into a tablet-optimized experience. The iPad is great but the 10" form-factor makes it decidedly less handy and portable. The Galaxy Tab is well respected in the consumer tech sector as a well made and useful device.

However, if you are looking for a larger tablet, you may want to wait; Samsung will soon be releasing an 8.9" and 10" Galaxy Tab with updated hardware, and they'll be running Android 3.1 (Honeycomb), the tablet-specific version of Android.

I wouldn't get it. There are already better tablets and devices out there that do the same thing. Some are cheaper and some are priced similar.

If you swap the SIM card from another phone, you can usually bypass that requirement. I spent $10 on an AT&T throwaway phone, just to get the SIM card. Leave the store, swap the card into my PDA phone, and Boom! no data charges.

Of course, my only data access is Wifi, but I assume that's what you're planning on, given your question.

If this was 3G tmo, I would have been on it like white on rice.

I see the description mentions GPRS/EDGE communication, so would this work with a GSM carrier? Otherwise why would this be mentioned when Sprint uses EVDO.

It should have the official Android Market, and not being on AT&T, you can easily load Amazon's App Store onto it as well.

No, it won't work with AT&T or Tmo EDGE or 3G.

Seems like a lot of little, annoying flaws that might get under your skin eventually. Apparently the 10.1" ones that Google gave out at I/O to attendees (for FREE!) are pretty awesome, and didn't have the TouchWiz carp on it. Probably worth waiting, IMO.

If I already have a dataplan on Sprint, can I just authorize another device? And if not, then is it easy to tether the GalaxyS Epic (phone) to another device?

Isn't that with a 2 year contract? This is contract free. Buy with an American Express or other card with an extended warranty program and boom! Extra free year warranty.

You don't have to get the data plan, but it updates over 3g so might have to download the updates from the samsung site. They have them there for the wifi only tab

Incorrect. Most people cancelled the data plan and were charged nothing including the activation fee. If this was not locked to Sprint I would but it. I have been waiting for this since my ATT order got canceled. There is no SIM card for these SPRINT units so you are locked to CDMA carriers (Sprint). Hope this helps!

Yes, purchased from Woot you won't be signing a contract. You should be able to disable 3G and use it as a WiFi only device with no problem.

The ones Google gave away at I/O won't ever be sold to consumers.

The final version of the 10.1-inch Tab WILL have TouchWiz

I had one of these and sold it. Then I got an A500 from Best Buy and returned it after about a week. Some of the major issues I had were the YouTube app crashing once a day and the GUI crashed once when I was playing the Need for Speed game that came preinstalled on it. I miss the Tab, and almost bought a wifi only version, but then I found out it had inferior hardware compared to the 3G Galaxy Tab.
