Has anyone been successful tethering a Tab to an iphone 4? I have seen varying answers on the internet (imagine that).

Yikes... was not aware of that! Well, I think Samsung is rolling out their official Gingerbread update here in the US pretty soon.

Verizon has a Certified Pre-Owned for 149.99...of course that's with 2 year contract...but you can choose between a $20 1gb/month, $35 3gb/mth, or $50 5gb/mth...new ones are only $199.99. This is a great product...

I am not sure if that's true. Sprint has tie-ups with local phone companies. My sprint phone works well in India on Reliance network. The service costs a fortune though.

Sure, but they've shipped millions. And since we have it on absolutely unquestionable authority that 95% of those (still millions) were returned, there are plenty to go around.

rbradle1 wrote:I would probably only want 3G for about 1 week out of the year during a family road trip. Does anyone know if you can subscribe to 3G and then cancel almost immediately / avoid big annual fees that way?

Maybe. I don't know whether Sprint data plans are covered by their 30 day satisfaction guarantee, but if they are (and a call to Sprint should answer that) you could cancel the data plan within that window and not pay the ETF. But you'll still likely have to pay an activation fee of $36 which I think is non-refundable.

Other option on Sprint- if you already have a smartphone plan with them, you can add the hotspot on your phone for $29 per month and use the wifi to pick up the connection. Since it's an add on you can drop it without penalty. I had it originally on my phone but rarely used it so I took it off. I was thinking of putting it back on for the exact reason you mentioned, to use while on a longer trip.

You could also see about buying a Virgin Mobile hotspot and just buying the time you need. You'll pay upfront for the hotspot device but can buy data as you need it.

editorkid wrote:In case anyone misses it, this comes with the Swype keyboard -- this is bar none the best onscreen keyboard I've found on any platform. You just run your fingertip over the keys to spell out words rather than tapping; it's much faster than tapping. As you get used to it and as it gets used to you, you can adjust the settings so the suggested word list pops up more or less often. I have always been very picky about phones that have a very good physical keyboard, but with Swype, I don't care any more.

My thoughts on Swype: While I love it, and it's imo the best keyboard out there, it's not perfect. I personally can't find a good balance for the suggested words setting. (It either always picks the wrong word for me, or I always have to select from the dropdown box, both of which slow down typing so much)

Also, on tablets because of their size, Swype is way slower than when using it on a cell phone. The distance you have to travel to Swype words on a tablet makes it slower than just using two thumbs to type out a word.

The best thing about Swype is the ability to type words without even looking at the keyboard most of the time. (not that anyone would ever text while driving or anything dangerous like that)

It should be noted that this is a review for the wifi only galaxy tab which is slower then the hummingbird equipped one we find in front of us. Their main complaint about the tab there is that @350 the nook is a better deal. The different (better) processor and price completely changes that.

I know how to read specs perfectly well. I had an Iconia Tab so I know that it has better hardware than the Tab. What I was saying was that my Tab ran better and more efficiently and had less errors than the A500.

I miss my Galaxy Tab but I will not buy one of the Wifi Only versions of the Tab because The Wifi Version of the Tab has worse hardware than the 3G Versions of the Tab.

I find typing on the GT's onscreen keyboard is better than on any other device I've used. At least for my hands, the size of the tablet is perfect, and I can fly on the stock keyboard with no more mistakes than if I was typing on a computer keyboard. I was really amazed, since I've always had to rely on autocorrect on my Evo to make my messages coherent.

As I understand this is an unlocked version of the tab. But does this mean that when I start up my tab, I will be presented with the activation screen? Also, I've been reading that the Sprint version does not allow you to bypass the activation with the volume up,down combo. Can anyone confirm?

In a similar way they say on Woot for flashlights, you cannot have too many Tablet computers.

Unfortunately no. This device (Sprint Version) does not contain a GSM radio. Sprint uses CDMA for their 3G and WiMax for their 4G. Because of this there was no reason for Samsung to put a GSM module into this particular version of the Galaxy Tab. You would be able to bypass the activation screen and use it as a Wifi device though.

Sprint uses a CDMA network (like Verizon), while most countries in the world use GSM. Unless your phone has a dual-band radio (CDMA and GSM), or there happens to be a CDMA network in that country, Verizon and Sprint phones will not work overseas.

I thought I had read that awhile back, but when I was searching for the proper combination early this morning I found reports of a few people who said they were able to do the bypass on the Sprint version. I was on my iPod at that time, which is now dead and needs charging so I can't retrace my steps to find those sources.

Virgin Mobile does not support this tablet directly. You can't just call them or go online and put in the ESN/IMEI and activate it with one of their plans. They know what ESNs are on the allowed devices and simply will not allow others to activate.

You could use this with their MiFi device though.

I work for Sprint and know these Galaxy Tabs intimately. This is a DEAL! This Galaxy will work beautifully with just wifi only. That is what I intend to do with the one I just bought on Woot. For Sprint plans that utilize the nation wide network, $29.99 or $59.99 for the monthly charge. The Galaxy tab also can be used as a hotspot for mutilple other wifi devices to connect, but that is another add onservice/another charge. Hope this helps!

No, you don't have to re-purchase the apps. They're tied to your account(s), not your device.
