Doncha know...hair (and, for the aviphiles among us, feathers) are evolved from reptilian scales. Alligators may be prehistoric holdouts, but they MUST pay the price of evolution passing them by.

I think you're confused- those were gators- crocodiles have long skinny jaws that can't cover their teeth- alligators have shorter, wider jaws & mostly contain their teeth within their 'lips'.
