I gave one to each of my kids when I bought some on 3/1. The kids are 3 and 4, so you know that these lights get quite a bit of use. Both of their lights still have the original batteries that I put in them when I got them. The battery life is astounding.

You can't pull 3W from a couple of AAAs. I have a nice little single-AAA LED flashlight that I carry around, but it could never get near 120 lumens!

Bought 3 last time. Bought 3 more. Insane bright and big batteries means long burn time. Best flashlight I have ever owned.

I love adding flashlights to my survival preps, but if it takes D's, no thanks. They're costly and bulky. I stick to multi AA or multi AAA flashlights only.

Decent flashlight for the buck. The cree led modules are about $4 by themselves. I bought three last time and today I replaced the white LED in one for a luxeon red star for astronomy sessions.

Bought one and realized how great this flashlight really is. Last Woot Off bought 3. This time I'm in for 3 again.

I'll have a flashlight in every room in the house and still won't be able to find one!

martmann4 wrote:I bet you only use shot glasses huh? I mean why have more capacity?

Sorry, but that is a poor comparison. The shot glass is the delivery device (as is the bulb). The bottle the liquor came from would represent the capacity (as are the batteries). Why carry around a bottle that is far bigger than you will consume? It is more efficient to carry a bottle that will satisfy your needs, and get a new bottle next time.

Put that in your glass and drink it. :-)

Everywhere I look I see examples of how little the educational system in America has schooled students in basic English. Almost nobody knows the difference between your and you're, much less there, their and they're. Where do folks get the idea that they can "ax" a question? I could go on, but I'm sure I'll get blasted for what little I have said here. I've got your back, Svengoolie. LOL

Duh.. These are MUCH brighter and last MUCH longer..Plus if you have big meat hooks like me, they are much easier to hold and use!!

I bought three of these the last time they were on. My kids and I think they're great for camping. They give a bright spot and wide enough to see everything around you. I have several different flashlights, but these are the ones I use now.

Three last time, three this time...
If they come around again during this woot-off I'll grab three more.

As stated by many others, these are very good lights and a bargain at this price. Every bit as bright as my 7-watt Luxeon and a formidable tool for when the kids get out of line.

I have 6 so far. They work fine. The o-ring on the back of one of them split when I opened it to put in batteries. This was actually not a problem, it works fine without it, but is perhaps a drop less waterproof. I would assume that the time limit on when these become woot items is the amount of time it takes for rubber to start getting brittle. The power button is also rubber-covered, but seems fine.

Seems to be as good as a Maglite overall.

There are lots of them with AAA batteries. The batteries have a very short life. D batteries hold a lot more current. If you want this level of light output, and don't mind that it requires new batteries every 10 minutes (or less), great - get a AAA lamp. If you'd like to have something that you can use in realistic circumstances, then you want a beefier power supply - something like, oh, maybe, a C or D cell.

Personal endorsement: Got 3 of these last time they were on woot. Love them. Taking them camping next weekend.

These are better than the 3 watt Brinkmanns that woot sold for $10 a couple years ago.

http://www.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=9885

These put out a nice smooth spot.

The Brinkmanns put out a few rings around the spot.

2 D cells will last longer then 3 AAA, because of more current, that increases brightness and life. Got 3 last time in for 3 more.

However I may order 3 more now, because the 2 that work are awesome. Never had such a brilliant flashlight in the house for so little...

There is no difference in the voltage output of a D and AA or AAA, you could easily get 120 lumens out of a AA or AAA, but as others have said it would only be for a few minutes at best. Now, try getting 120 lumens out of an incandescent with any type of battery and then come back to me.

hamjudo

quality posts: 6 Private Messages hamjudo

I bought 3, even though the numbers don't add up quite right. 2 D cells in series produce 3 volts. To get 3 watts at 3 volts, the light has to draw 1 amp. Others have said these last for 20 hours or a very long time. Most D cells have 8 amp hours or less. That means an 8 hour life, or more likely, it means that the Cree is not using 3 watts, except possibly when the batteries are brand new.
