Newegg had a WD 2TB Green for $80 last week

*****************************

I got my WD 2TB GREEN in there and working today. It is not bad for a inexpensive device. I will just need to protect it with a UPS on both the DVR and Cameras and then we are good to go!

I still have the networking an dthe fun installation to do on a multi level home. (YEHAA)

I think I got a good deal!

Just bought a seagate barracuda 1tb sata to use with this system, plugged it in, fired up the dvr, but it's not recognizing the drive. I'm not too experienced with this kinda thing, is it possible the drive needs formatted or something before it will work (bought it new)?

I had set mine up according to Zmodo's website instructions a few days ago and had set it up to look at Zmodo's 9000 series DVR that they have up and it had been working great but... When I got the new DVR all set up and entered the same settings into my IP Cam Viewer Lite (substituting my IP adress and password etc) it would connect but never render an image. I spent several hours checking and double checking all of the settings and still no luck. When I started getting a little desperate I decided to try some different settings in the phone app. Logic kept telling me if I could see THEIR DVR but not MINE, then something must be set wrong on MY DVR. This turned out to not be the case. As it turned out, I was using the setting for "Zmodo DVR w/ Mobile port" per their instructions online (which again works with their online demo DVR). When I tried the different settings and chose "Zmodo H9106 w/Media Port" it all started working beautifully... PS; The instructions all say that the port is supposed to be set to 9001 but my DVR was set to port 9000 instead. I left it there and set up the phone (HTC EVO) to 9000...

Is it showing all 4 cameras? mine is only showing 1 camera am I missing something?

Under the HDD Status screen (see section 10.1 in the manual) does it say "No Disk Found" or "Unformatted". If it says Unformatted you will need to go through the format process. If it says no disk found then I would re-seat the drive. Make sure the power and hdd sata connectors are well connected on the board and the HDD.

I havent installed mine yet so I am just going off of what the manual says and general experience with drive installations.

Go to "Manage Cameras" then press the plus at the bottom, then "IP Camera, DVR, NVR"

If you already have one camera set up it should have the fields pre-populated with all the same info except the "Name" at the top will say Camera 2 or something like that assuming your first camera was set up as camera 1. Anyway, the name can be whatever you want but be sure to change the "Ch#" to "2". Press "Save"

After that just do the same for channels 3 and 4. When you are back on the main screen you can display one or all four at one time...

Hope that helps!

I have been trying to find other options for applications, and thought I would share my results...

iPhone users

Best app (so far): ASee/Asee+

Summary of tested (compatible) apps:

  • APlayer v5.1.11 - horrible, buffers video, and crashes often
  • ASee+ v1.0.1 - multiple/single camera view, requires reselecting cameras each startup
  • ASee v1.2.3 - single camera view, retains camera selections (hit 'play' on startup)
  • MEye v4.0.1 - single camera view, retains camera selections (hit 'play' on startup)

Apps that are NOT compatible with this Zmodo:
  • PCDvrViewer
  • Net PCDvrViewer
  • vMEye
  • EagleEyes
  • GV-iView
  • LiveCams Pro
  • Netcamviewer (ip cams only)

-------------

I hope this helps... I really apreciated rzdesigns and similar posters pointed out apps that worked, as it helped in identifying other options available. I will post more if I find other options.

Mine records all the time. I have an "R" on all 4 screens. Anyone know how to fix this?

If I move in front of a camera I do get the "M" for motion, so it is detecting motion correctly, but just recording everything!

Thanks.

Nope, try local ip:80 or whatever port you have the web port assigned to. The 9000 port is just for the video stream. You can change them both, just make sure to open the ports in your router if you plan to view remotely. Have fun

edit: and now then I scrolled down and saw that you got it ;) took me awhile for the remote viewing, like all day

If you're not a gigalomaniac and can live with something good under 1TB, newegg has a Western Digital Caviar Green WD7500AARS 750GB IntelliPower 64MB for $40 with free 2-day shipping, I'd snag one up but I just dug an old drive out of a closet that works fine for me.

There is a setup area for the mobile devices where you specify a port (seperate from the web port). The default for mine was 18004. If you havent changed it that should work. Just make sure you are port forwarding it as well.

I had to put my system back in the box after testing and it will be a few weeks before I get it installed. However, I tested the BB app today using ZMODO's demo site. It worked pretty well. My 3G sucks so I imagine if you have good 3G connection it shows better.

In the setup, under "Record Setup" then "Record Mode" switch the mode from "Always" to "Schedule". Click on "Copy Settings To..." then click "All". Then "Apply". I think that should work for you...

By the way, I posted a video on YouTube that I recorded on my Zmodo DVR. This was using an Astak camera though. I already had four cameras up and running and I just bought the system to get the DVR. I may actually incorporate a couple of the Zmodo cameras in my system eventually as they are wide angle compared with the Astaks. Anyway, here is the link to my video...

PS; this is made from three motion activated clips...

Thanks for the help. I ended up calling Zmodo because the remote, the mouse, and the buttons on the unit itself were not working at all. Found out that there's a default display setting that sometimes needs adjusted. He had me hold down the rewind button on the DVR for like 5 secs or so until it buzzed. Then everything worked properly. So just a heads up if you're having a similar problem. Before you get pissed and throw the thing out the window, try holding the REW button for a few seconds.

Color correction:

Anybody have knowledge of what it takes to color correct these images? I would REALLY love one of my cameras to work with awesome color. I'm considering disabling the LEDs and adding a UV filter. Anyone know if this will work?

Thanks! Eric

Yep. It came in the bag that the manual was in. The CD has a program called NetViewer for your PC and AVI conversion tools. Oh, and some mobile phone apps.

I had been wondering why I couldn't play the video file properly in Windows Media Player. I found a site online that said many DVR companies use proprietary video formats and that they usually come with software to be able to play their videos. I remembered seeing that little white disk in there so I put it in the drive and found it had some neat stuff. It has a stand alone version of the web interface which seems more solid (especially when logging on). It has a program for viewing the video files that you have saved, and my favorite, a program that converts a saved file to a standard avi file that is playable in Media Player and can be uploaded to YouTube. I uploaded one early this morning (link is a few posts above) of a deer poking around in our yard. Also there are several apps for different smartphones that are included. Cool!

Just a little fyi guys I recommend a cheap laptop cooler for the DVR it never hurts to have more cooling for a hard drive especially because this unit has no fans. I picked this one up and does a excellent job of dispersing heat all you need it to do is a little. http://www.amazon.com/Powered-Efficient-Cooler-Built--Computer/dp/B000I6F0T2/ref=sr_1_19?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1309567171&sr=1-19

I picked up a couple of microphones for this unit, as I only want to record sound on two of the cameras.

I went with these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004REA7MG

They are cheap and rated well. They are not yet in my possession, but if this thread is still alive when I have done the install I will provide an update on how well they actually work.

FWIW, Amazon also has terrific deals on CCTV cables. For me, 60ft was not enough to do the install. With the addition of the microphones I needed to run audio cables to the PVR also.

Ended up getting one of these:

Is that from the circuit board alone, or do you have a hard drive installed?
Any chance for an image with the cover removed?

Also, how much does a entry level imager run?
