This is obviously the new version of the Nintendo Wii. Just without all the guts of the Wii. Just the case, power supply and fan.

400 square feet each? So I'd need 20 of these to cover my house?

How do these compare to Oreck filters and the Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image?

The purification claims have been tested through global third party certification institutions? Well then! I must purchase one.

Seriously, it's like the Woot writers wrote the product specs too.

I read for a little bit, but couldn't find anything regarding having to purchase filters. Anyone know if there is a filter that needs to be replaced (other than the pre-filter which is said to only need replacing every 4 years)?

Does anyone else think Air Washer Air Purifier sounds a little redundant?

$127 + $15 shipping on QVC, I would never trust Amazon's prices on items they are currently selling on WOOT!

Soooo, what does this thing do to the humidity in your house? Might be ok in the winter, but I don't want any more humidity in the warm months.

Can someone with an account please post the review. My wife has bad allergies and I'm thinking of getting this for the bedroom.

Also wasn't there an article a few years ago about brookstone air purifiers actually causing some respiratory problems.

I'm lovin the 420 undertones in the product description, not to mention it's like the coolest air purifier I've ever seen. I have an Ionic Breeze and some Permenant-HEPA Purifiers in my home, buying filters is for tools. I would totally love to buy this, but I've already bought a security system, 2 shirts, a hanayama puzzle, and a computerized telescope this week...damn.

5 stars is the average over at Buzzillions.

I do a daily woot blog where I talk about the woot, link to CSEs, find reviews, etc. A few people have told me it's useful. Google "useful linkage" and there it is.

How do you guys think this would fare in a very high humidity environment?
I have lots of fishtanks/lizards and the breeding room is warm and with high humidity (85%).
The repti-bark smell is pronounced.
Thoughts?

To be honest, anything that does worse than the Ionic Breeze should probably be banned:

Check out the Rabbit Air Minus A2. They are pretty nice and work very well for allergy sufferers.

The CR review is super scant on info. Out of 100 points, the highest purifier got a 74 and the lowest got a 20. This got a 44. They liked the low amount of noise, but gave it pretty lackluster grades for actual air cleaning, especially on low. AFAIK, that's about all the info they provide - no real commentary on it.

Found the article about some ionic purifiers that create small amounts of ozone can cause respiratory problems.

Your house is 8000 sq ft? If that's true, you don't need to be saving money on woot!

I'd also trust the Oreck a bit more than the pathetic Sharper Image machines. They've been proven to be absolute junk.

If anything, go find yourself a quality Honeywell such as this. HD had the white version on clearance, you may still be able to find them. I picked up 3 of them for $42 each.

Let's cover some basics:

If you're not running this beast on high 24/7 cut the room-size rating by at least 50%.

Consumer Reports rated this as "Good" for Dust/Smoke/Pollen on high, but it's like trying to sleep with a jet engine running in your house.

On the low speed setting it gets a big fat goose egg for removing dust/smoke/pollen...

Basically, what this means is that this thing is great if you're an airplane pilot, deaf, or a member of Spinal Tap beacause this biatch only works on 11!

How do these compare to Oreck filters and the Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image?[/quote]

Given that the Ionic Breeze does very little, it probably compares favorably. Sharper Image sued Consumer Reports over a bad review of the Ionic Breeze. Consumer Reports asked them to devise a test method or tell them why theirs was not valid. The lawsuit was dismissed and Sharper Image had to pay them $525,000 in attorney fees.

Yeah, CR didn't actually test the thing, it's an estimate based on similar models (of which there are few, so that's odd).

As for QVC -- as someone on the mfr's side of things, you might be surprised. Not all items are a great deal, but when they carry relatively new items that are also available in the mass marketplace, the consumer usually comes out ahead. It's sort of like buying at Costco, even when they hold retail prices to the prevailing street price, you usually get some kind of bonus piece (refills, extra parts, larger product, whatever). Their buyers can be pretty hardcore on that stuff. But you won't beat clearance or aggressive temporary price reductions by traditional retail.
