That description is slightly creepy. I can't image how hard you'd have to yank to get skin off with one of these.

I think they did.

This must be from the "everything goes" bankruptcy sale.

That seems... umm... NOT new I guess.
Anyone have any thoughts on the putting froyo or gingerbread on the thing? Is it even possible let alone feasible?

I was actually very surprised at how much I liked mine. Although I rooted mine, I haven't gotten as far as I wanted customizing it.

I'm tempted for another one...

Woot's product descriptions are getting progressively more ridiculous and less informative. Honestly, it's almost time to start copy and pasting from Gutenberg books and just replacing character names with the names of the products.

Buyer Beware! Remember the ESPN Remote? (Click365 went belly up soon after Woot sold the remotes)

The following is from the enTourage web store home page:

"The enTourage eDGe store has closed as of 05/21/2011. We appreciate all of our customers and want you to enjoy your enTourage eDGe for the foreseeable future.

We have shut down our content store but we made sure you still had an option. Click here for directions on purchasing and downloading e-books from the Google ebookstore (Note: You will NOT need to download the Google ebooks Android app as our instructions are similar to Google eBooks for eReaders).

As for Apps, we really like what Amazon has done with an Android App store. Go to the Amazon page and download the Android Store App and you will now have access to a lot of Android Apps that Google would never give us access to.

A community-operated forum can be found here where you can interact with the enTourage eDGe and Pocket eDGe community.

In order for new users to register their device and purchase e-books from other sources, the registration server that controls the registration information of the device will remain online for the foreseeable future.

SUPPORTrix has deep knowledge and experience in supporting the Entourage Edge products. They provide fee based support options available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and offer Entourage Edge customers a 25% discount. You can call them toll free at 1-877-787-8749 to get more information or visit their site at www.SUPPORTrix.com.

We wish you all the best of luck and appreciate your support in trying to bring a new generation of innovative devices to market.

Best Regards,
enTourage Systems"

You'll find a thriving community of eDGe users on MobileRead.

The PE has BOTH a host and client USB connectors, and it uses virtually any USB keyboard you want to plug in. The eInk is a good feature -- you can carry around a reader AND tablet that protects its own screens.

I still think this was a steal at $159. It upgrades to a beta of Froyo easily, and I haven't had any issues with it. The only issue is that it doesn't run Market.

It also doesn't have motion sensors or a GPS.

I purchased this for a bit more last time around (about a week prior to the company going under). I've since used the e-reader half for multiple cross-country flights (with checked out epubs from local library), the browser for basic browsing in hotels and coffee shops, and while the Google Market doesn't work by default, the Amazon Appstore was easily installed and has tons of apps for the tablet half. Make sure you update to Froyo for maximum compatibility with newer apps: Entourage Froyo beta

Mine has worked just fine, though I read some forum posts from others who weren't so fortunate. I've been very happy with my purchase!

I bought one last time...at a higher price. It's been two months and I can't seem to make mine work. It is not quite the "ready out of the box" product as it seems. I have not had much luck downloading applications or updates. Now, I do not have a high level of tech savvyness so that may account for my challenges.

Enjoyed the one I got from the last go-around, especially after the Froyo update. Unfortunately it now has the "White Screen of Death", which is a pretty common problem, and no hope of getting it repaired. I did spring for a Square Trade warranty, but they seem to think that Entourage should be providing coverage (even though they're out of business). Caveat emptor...

Whee!!!

I also bought one last time it was up (for $30 more, grrr...).

I have tried and tried and tried and can't get the damn thing to update to Ermine (Froyo), so it's Dingo (1.6) for me. Despite this, yes, the MobileRead forum is full of very helpful folks.

Despite not being able to update the OS, the Amazon Marketplace for apps works, although not all apps will run. Most of the time, Amazon will warn you. This is also why I'm sticking to free apps.

There are some handy videos on YouTube to give you an idea of how the two screens talk to each other. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=pocket+edge&aq=f

I'm an avid reader with a Kindle v.1, and really like all of the annotation options on the Pocket Edge, especially being able to look up highlights and notes on the tablet while I'm reading an eBook (great for work or school docs). I find myself using the tablet side more than I thought I would. Using the stylus to write isn't terribly accurate, however, especially within about 1" of the screen edges, despite recalibrating.

Battery life is kind of sad, but not crippling. (~5 hrs with wireless on, using the tablet side?) Mini-SD card saves the storage issue (reads up to 32GB), and media playback is okay. The screen's not fantastic, but it gets the job done.

If you read a lot for work or pleasure, then this is a great device, especially at this price. I'm *almost* tempted to buy a second as a backup. Almost.

I bought this during the first Woot! and it is well worth the money. Being a college student, this thing is like the best thing ever created and I will get a crowd on a daily basis by using it in public. I liked it so much, that I got an Entourage Edge (10.1 inch counterpart) shortly after. 1 thing to put on the hate list is reading textbooks on the Pocket Edge. Do not do it and expect your eyes to last until your 40 (hence the reason for the Entourage edge). Other than that this thing is awesome. Other FYIs include: a great Android 2.2 beta, a healthy community (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=218), and pretty good stability (the clam-shell format protects the screens and it has already taken a few falls)

I bought one last time and love it.

0) This is an e-book reader with some Android goodness tacked on. If you're considering a Nook or Kindle, this is what you want instead.

1) You can upgrade this to Froyo 2.2
link

2) Support forums are now on Mobile Read

3) This thing supports wifi, usb keyboards, bluetooth (audio at least, haven't tried keyboard). If your keyboard has a trackpad, it will actually work much like a directional pad.

4)The e-ink side is "pennable" meaning you use a Waccom stylus to tap/write on it.

5) The e-ink/e-reader is its own application buried in the file system. Android itself has no native concept of a second screen. So while you can load up Kindle and Nook applications, you can not output them to the e-ink screen. However, they would work fine on the lcd screen.

6) You may be able to install custom roms on this, but you will probably loose the e-ink screen in doing so.

7) Battery life of the e-reader is 4-5 days. Your usage of the android screen will vary based on your usage.

8) Yes, you can play angry birds, but you probably won't enjoy it.

I kinda want one - am I crazy? This seems like a really cool idea, if not a perfect execution of said idea....

By the way, does anyone know if it plays mp3s, i.e., could I put audiobooks on it, too?

Can you please post some info on rooting this? I saw somebody had rooted it on Android Police, but did not see any details about flashing custom ROMs etc. etc.

FYI, this DOES flip completely (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXuF5rxOFQ0&feature=player_detailpage#t=180s) and the information from Entourage's website has been backed up, including the 2.2 Ermine beta (http://www.runboard.com/bedgehackersforum.p376)

I missed this last time and told myself I'd buy if I saw again...still so tempted...

No, you are.

I bought this last time, and I really enjoy using it. The upgrade to 2.2 is very easy, as is the installation of the Amazon App store. It plays video adequately, stands up nice, and works perfectly well as an e-reader. It is not multi-touch, and you do have to press on it more than the modern touch screes, but it does include a stylus which makes it pretty easy to use. You can also write on the e-reader, though that has so far been more of fun novelty than a useful tool.

If you don't have an e-reader or an android tablet, and you have at least a moderate curiosity in both, I think you will find this device worth the money, it is quite versatile, and I have found myself having fun with both sides. The loss of the entourage store, so far, has not been an issue, and they have a few hardcore users that contribute to the boards and answer hitchhiker questions.

Yes, it will play and store mp3s, avis (at least), etc. It will play from the speakers or from the jack.

This guy has done a lot for it.

I keep telling myself to get on it but I'm kind of afraid of loosing some of the reader functionality.

And I'm kind of busy. I'm in for another for my nephew and sister and or custom brick if I brick one playing with it.

Whats the reason for this being bad on your eyes. Ex: small font or contrast. Are you unable to adjust font size on the e-reader like you can on a Kindle.

I got mine the last time around, and, just after typing "woot.com" today, I tried again to find out how to put it in a power-saving sleep mode. From what I can tell, the only "sleep mode" you get drains the batteries in a few hours; hardly what you want from any computing device, let alone a reader. This makes it nearly useless unless you plan on using (and charging) it all the time, since start-up takes far too long.

The e-Ink screen is needlessly limited, e.g., no web browsing there, and it always puts the same start-up page on when it's off rather than leaving on the content you actually want. This and a few other quirks that prevent it from being too great, even for a specialized device.

Also, it didn't work out of the box; I needed a fair bit of Googling / trial-and-error to get it to work. Oh, and my screen flickered, but a reset seemed to do the trick there. Still, if their company's website had disappeared, I would've been stuck with a brick, which means you'd better hope they keep the site open out of the kindness of their out-of-business hearts.
