OK, Moto just called me back to let me know that only a small number of units got out with the "demo" firmware build. It appears that at least two of you who have posted that you have build # H.6.2-21-demo.1301415063 do in fact have the "demo" units. The remainder of units that we (woot) have in our warehouse have build # HTJ85B. When we fired up those units and connected to wi-fi, they prompted after a couple of hours that "An Update is Available". The units we tested did in fact have Android 3.0.1 installed, which then updated to ver. 3.1 after installing the update. SO, I suggest that when you do receive your Xoom, fire it up, go to "Apps" (upper right corner of screen), click on "Settings" (lower left icon), then click "About Tablet" (bottom tab of left column). If you see "Build H.6.2-21-demo" you have a bad unit. If you see any other "build" version, you are the proud owner of a fully functioning Motorola Xoom tablet. Again, we will take care of all wooters that hae the 'Demo" version.

Just checked to see if I have the demo software or not....I don't. So that means I'm the proud owner of of a useless piece of junk.
I was on the fence whether I should ride this fiasco out or pay a few dollars more at STAPLES and get a brand new unit. I think fate has decided for me.
Back it goes. I will think twice before I make a purchase of this type on woot again.

Wait, why is it useless if it DOESN'T have the demo build? It should be working just fine?

Is there a typo in there somewhere or do you not understand that demo unit=bad unit.

You have a GOOD unit.
If you have a "demo" unit, it is a BAD unit.

You're good to go, buddy. When prompted, let it install software updates so you're running the latest and greatest software.

agingdragqueen, ibuy4woot et al: Thank you for your due diligence in taking care of your customers. Glad to know we weren't stuck with a $400 dinner tray. I'm anxiously awaiting my delivery to see if I got a good Xoom or a bad Xoom. From what others here have reported, when they got a good one and updated the software it is awesome, so I'm holding on to that thought for now. Again, thanks for keeping us informed and working this issue for us. Woot Woot!!

Sorry, I've been posting the problems I've been having with this thing and assumed you knew. Bad assumption.

My unit locks up then reboots every few minutes. I've tried everything to remedy this.
That's why it's going back.

Knowing how frustrating this has been and since we have no way to know if you did get a bad unit, we're set on taking back these from anyone who's unhappy. That's not to say that if in a year you decide you want to send it back we'll take it, but for this initial snafu, we'd rather make it right with anyone who's not happy with the situation as a whole.

As for the Staples thing, I saw that deal this morning too and know how tempting the $100 off is. If you'd prefer to not deal with Motorola and send it back to us so that you can go to Staples we do understand and hope you'll trust us enough to come back again some day.

We got a prior official post stating that these units were shipped by Motorola and now it sounds like they were in fact shiped from Woot's warehouse. In addition, a prior post said 'all units' were affected and now you say only a 'small number' were. Why the discrepency, Woot?

Sorry, that's likely my fault because I'm the last in the line of communication, ibuy4woot is in direct contact with Motorola and is working to get together the information in a coherent way (which I may not have been able to offer- my apologies). This is my understanding: these units are from Motorola (refurbished by them) but were shipped by our vendor. Motorola is the one at fault for sending our vendor the incorrect versions and will be the entity to fix it.

Our first assumption is that ALL were affected since that's the safest assumption to include all potential affected customers. Via posts in the forum/emails, later discussions with Motorola as well as testing our remaining stock- we can now safely say that not all have the issue, but we will still be sending the email/solution to everyone- we can't know who has the demo versions, though ibuy4woot described above how you can see if you do.

Thanks ADQ and IBuy4Woot.

I will be sending mine back for certain at this point. It's due to arrive at my home tomorrow. I've requested an RMA, and will leave it boxed up.

I've gone ahead and purchased this model at my local Staples, as the issues associated with this particular shipment, while out of your control, are not what I signed up for.

Thank you for being so proactive in getting a resolution, I will continue to be a customer, comfortable in the knowledge that Woot customer service is good to go.

Sincerely,

HF

I too am torn between the staples offer and whatever motorola offers to make good on this fiasco. Speaker dock? BT headphones? "Clerks" blu-ray?

So far, my experience with the latin-american/demo/floor model xoom with 3.0 would be fine if I'd never ever used an iPad. Can I have stability AND widgets? Or do I have to choose?

I didn't want samsung because of my bad experiences and slow os updates with my Epic. (pretty screen)

I didn't want Touchpad because everything HP has failed me.

I didn't want Asus because I am shallow.

Maybe I stick with this 1st gen iPad with which I write this, sitting at 99%. But I hate iTunes so much and I hate knowing Handbrake better than I know Excel. End of rant.

Received my Xoom yesterday afternoon; 5 business days after ordering, very nice. Software build was 3.0.1 and NOT a "Demo" build.
Within 15 minutes of WiFi setup it asked to upgrade to 3.1 and then within 5 minutes of that upgrade it asked to upgrade to 3.2. Overall very happy with this purchase from Woot! I have an IPad which the wife took over and I am very happy with the Xoom. Love all the features and the customizability (new word).
If I didn't follow the discussions I would of never known I had a potential issue.
Thanks Woot!

I am not sure how correct this information is going to turn out to be, as far as whether you have a "good" unit or not.

This morning I turned my Xoom on and the screen is screwed up. It is jumping all over the place and the colors are out of sync. The Build Number in the settings(when I can read it) say HTJ85B.

I have only had the Xoom out of the box for about 24 hours now and I have been extremely gentle with it.

edit: I also purchased another one for work for a giveaway in a couple months. This one has a Build Number of HWI69. It was the first one we received at the office(another employee also purchased one for himself) and then a day later we received our personal Xooms.

Based on all of these posts from Woot, I am not sure what I need to do next. Please advise.

Thanks in advance for handling this issue. I am a recipient of the demo build. After reading the past 30 or so posts, I jumped in my email and fired one off to service@woot.com. Is that all I need to do to get the ball rolling for my return/replacement?

Staffers: A summary of all the info and what to do/what to expect/what's going to happen would be very nice at this point since some of the pertinent info is scattered across several posts. Something like:

Check ______ to find out if you have the incorrect software.
If you have the demo build, do _____.
When you do _____, Woot will do _____.

(did I see a mention that Woot might do an advanced replacement? THAT would be awesome!)

I know most, if not all, of that is in the thread but a summary would be nice and could be referred back to once it's done.

I'm not going to bail on the deal. As long as Woot will make it right, I will take the replacement. New vs refurb has never been a big deal. I've actually had a better overall experience with refurbs.

Now, if I could just snag a RBOC, my Woot experience would be complete!

Thanks,

n4mrc

My build number is the same as yours and just as screwed up.

So since our units don't have the bad "demo" problem, are they still eligible for the cross ship type exchange?
