Send email to service@woot.com with your serial number. They'll likely open an RMA for you and tell Moto to ship you a new one while they give you a return FedEx label to ship the one you received back, free of charge to you.

That's what they did for mine that received this morning with that load . Was really hoping for a software fix so I didn't have to wait even longer for a fully functioning unit, but oh well.

1st time with Woot. Ordered 7/13. Woot shipped the 4th business day (which is within their promise). Watched the package come all the way to NC. It got in town yesterday morning (per a FedEx person I talked to today). The scan I see on the web shows: "Jul 21, 2011 2:05 PM Arrived at FedEx location in My City, NC". I got all excited since it showed est. delivery today.

While for those of you who are worried that FedEx will miss place yours - you can breath easy. I got the one that FedEx decided to misplace. It's on a trailer somewhere in town. I now get to wait and hope they find it and delivery it Monday. Maybe mine will be fine when it finally gets here. Patiently (I wish) waiting to play with my new toy. No fault of Woot.

Just got an email response from Woot support stating they are working as fast as they can and you be notified when it ships. I am really, really considering the Staples option where I can have a new one in my hands tonight. Wont get my refurb Woot Zoom till next week sometime via some low budget shipping method. If I had ordered a scraming monkey, it would have been here a week ago. Woot, I know it is not your fault but should I have to suffer? Really?

Um I ordered both and I already got my screaming monkey. No word on the zoom though.

Loved it, just opened it after it sat for a few days (only because I didn't have the time to devote to concentrating and having fun with it). The charger isn't working! So now I have a DEAD tablet! Gonna have to contact Motorola. Not too happy about this. Hoping this is not going to be a back and forth battle of rectification. Wish me luck ;)

Send an email over to service@woot.com with your email subject as ATTN: agingdragqueen.

Tell them you got the Demo version and send them the serial number that's inside the SIM (or SD) card slot. Mine was on a white sticker and should start with the letter M.

I've been in contact with Woot, who was gracious as hell BTW, and they have arranged to send me a replacement. They have also arranged for me to send back the "defective" version once I get the new one.

For now, sit back, mess around on your Xoom. Even if it's version 3.01, it works.

BTW: The one thing I dislike about the Xoom is this really tiny, frail power connector and the fact that it is placed at the bottom center of the device. What were they thinking? I went into BestBuy to check one out and the power connector was bent, probably because people had been holding it against their belly which, after a time, bent the connector. I unplug the power before I use it for that reason. A more substantial connector and a better placement would be a big improvement.

I felt the same way until I realized that, if you turn the tablet upside down, the screen will reorient. I hold it this way if I need to use it while charging.

Except when you watch YouTube videos full-screen. For some stupid reason, those use the default orientation and don't reorient if the tablet is upside down. Very dumb.

MOTOROLA SCREW UP FAQ

Finally we have worked something out. Motorola was dragging their feet so we're no longer putting it solely in their hands.

By Wednesday we should have VERIFIED working models in stock and we will be shipping the replacements ONLY to those who got a demo version. So, please email in to start the process. I'll be getting the emails personally and will put in a replacement order which will ship when we get the others in and I'll also send a FedEx label to ship back the demo.

Has your order damaged in transit? Please email into us.

Anyone with a defective device, please contact Motorola- they are having no issues with their customer service team replacing defective ones (just not the demo ones FROWN).

None of the Woot-Off orders should have been affected.

Also, please note- we have weekends off so you won't get a response to your email immediately. I'll try to check back in here if anyone has any other questions or needs clarification, but your absolute best bet is to include any additional questions in your email so I can focus on those first thing Monday morning.

PS. we're still accepting returns for a refund for any reason. We'll just only be able to replace the Demo'd versions.

So how do we know if we have a dreaded demo version?

my ABOUT TABLET info shows the following:

Just got mine from FedEx.

Came with HC 3.1 and did OTA update to 3.2 within about 2 minutes of being turned on.

No dead pixels, both cameras work great.

This one is a keeper!

Thanks Woot staff for keeping us informed on this. I will definitely be a repeat customer.

Got a demo, but not interested in swapping it or going through any hassle. Went to Staples and picked up the Acer Iconia with the $100 off coupon. Side by side, the Acer blows the Motorola's screen away, but I think I still like my iPad best.

I just got mine today this afternoon and it is a bad unit (a demo version). I did not want it anymore. This purchase made me disappointed in Motorola. Can I return it? How can I do that? Will I get my full refund (with shipping cost)? Thank you.

P.S. Camera both front and back are really bad quality (IMHO)

You don't.

Setup a wifi connection, you should get a popup message within a short period of time to update to 3.1. After reboot, you will soon get another popup for the 3.2 update.

Congrats on getting a good one.

Got mine today and logged onto my WiFi ASAP. The Xoom downloaded 3.1 and 3.2 within about 10 min.Slapped in a 32Gb micro SD and everything is working perfecttly, better than I expected. This turned out to be a great deal.Outside of the slow shipping, no complaints whatsoever.

It wasn't even slow shipping. Two-day Fedex Home in less than five business days is faster than Woot promised. Great stuff.

got mine, came with 3.0.1 which I thought might of been the bad units, though prompted to update to 3.1 and then 3.2. unit works as it should, thought about returning it and going the staples route as this is my first dealing with woot, but decided to give it a chance. Only complaint I have with it is a dead pixel or might just be dust between the glass and the lcd.. but not something I'm going to return it for.

all and all I am happy with my purchase.

kudos goes to the staff who had to deal with this, I work in a repair center and I know the hostile questions and assumptions our customer service people get...

I got my tablet yesterday! Fortunately, it was not a "Demo" version. However, the left side of the screen is completely blue and where you would press an icon on the screen has now been off-put by this blue area. Ex. if you want to press the gmail icon you will need to press about 1/2 of an inch to the left of the actual icon. Also, part of the right side of the screen is not visable d/t this. This happened from the second I turned on the tablet which is unfortunate seeing as I now can not use it. I decided to contact Motorola as I was in the belief that they would cross ship a new one to me. When I called, the tech support made me do a forced reset which did not fix the problem and a hard reset which has now cause the Xoom to not be able to turn on beyond the Motorola screen with the Red circle with the white M in it (The Red circle is currently flashing teal blue and red rapidly) along with some random white lines going horizontally across the screen. The tech at Motorola stated that they would have to send me a return label, then ship my Xoom to them to have repairs done. If there is any physical or liquid damage to the Xoom (which there shouldn't be as I haven't even had the opportunity to play with it yet) they would send the Xoom back unrepaired. This is not what I have been informed that the process would be, nor is this what I signed up for when I purchased this product. I just need to know where to go from here.

I do want to say though, that I have been reading this blog and very much appreciate how Woot has been handling the issue. I just need to know what to do to get a fully functioning version of what I paid for in my hands as soon as possible.

My Xoom arrived yesterday. I let it charge for a bit before powering on. It shipped with Android 3.1, prompted to upgrade to 3.2 after I checked for updates, and has been working perfectly. I'll be stopping by Staples tomorrow to pick up the portfolio case for it. Thanks Woot staffers for everything you're doing to rectify this situation with the customers who had issues!

n4mrc wrote:FYI: I read somewhere that the charging LED does not stay on when the Xoom is powered on, even if the screen is blank or the Xoom is in standby, however it does light up and stay on if the Xoom is powered off. I've been charging my Xoom (demo version) and my son's Xoom (non-demo version) and both behave the same with regard to the charging LED. If I power it off and plug it in, the LED stays on. I think it turns green when the charge is compete. You might try powering it off and plugging it in for a while to see of the LED stays on that way. If it does not then you may have a flaky plug. If it does stay on while the Xoom is powered off, you may just be tweaking the power connection just enough when you wiggle the connector that it loses and regains the connection and wakes the unit.

Keep in mind that the display rotates 180 degrees and it really does not ergonomically matter which way you hold it.

Ah poo. Now, instead of rebooting every 2 minutes, it won't boot at all. Well, at least I bought an Iconia with the Staples coupon (thanks fellow Wooters!), and I still have my iPad. Is there something special I have to do to recycle this thing? I don't think it's wise to just drop it into a dumpster, with the chemicals in the LCD.

Friggin' Motorola sucked me in again, LOL ... next time I'll remember. ;)

Why are you talking about recycling it? It has a 1 year warranty. Call Motorola support and tell them what it is doing. They will send you a shipping box with shipping label. It might take a week or so but they will repair or replace it.

I called them last week before I found out that Woot was trying to do something to rectify the demo version issue. I was on the phone for about 30 minutes, it was not that much of a hassle. I received the box and label last Friday but I'm opting for the Woot solution. If you really don't want to bother with it I'll recycle it for you. Send it to me, I'll pay for shipping. I'll be happy to call Motorola.

They kept me on hold for 50 minutes the first time, and 36 minutes the second time. Both times they accidentally disconnected me when trying to put me on hold.

My time is more valuable than the $400 -- but I'm environmentally conscious enough not to want to just chuck it in the dumpster. I called my county's sanitation department, and they promised a call back today to tell me where to drop it. I already have it packed up and sitting by the door, so in the next hour (which would make it end of day in my part of the world), I should have my marching orders.

Motorola is complete fail, and I'm not about to take advantage of Woot's offer to make good ... it wasn't THEIR fault, and I'm not making them eat this $400 like the "buyer's remorse" crowd.

Let me add to this already growing forum. I received my package from fed ex on Friday as promised. The only problem was that I received a box for Motorola Xoom without any actual tablet inside. I contacted Woot immediately by email and received a reply asking whether the package was tampered with. To answer that I send them photos of the package that showed how the bottom had been re-taped. I got a reply today from woot today after the weekend that was completely irrelevant to my problem. So I am out of $400 and all I have is an empty box on the floor to show for it. I also have 5 different case number for my problem from Woot and two replies in two days which does not even start addressing the issue. I hope this gets addressed soon as I really want my hands on the tablet.

I totally understand why you are upset, I would be too, but if the bottom has been retaped, it seems to me that it might be more of a shipping issue than a Woot issue. Maybe you need to complain to the carrier (Fedex?).
