Well, if it were me... I would rather send it to someone who wants it for $30 than throw it away for nothing. Hey, if he sends it to me, he can even stop by Starbucks on the way home and come out ahead of the throw away option.

Sorry, I had already left to go to the county dump. When I got there, the guy asked if it was working, I replied it wasn't, but he wanted it anyway, LOL ... so instead of just recycling it, I guess I helped someone learn electronic repair ... or something.

Received my 7/13 order today. Loaded. With 3.0.1. Updated to 3.1 within 15 minutes. Updated to 3.2 about 20 minutes later. Awesome & worth the wait. Thanks Woot!

I finally got through to Motorola on my way to scrap the thing, and their reply was that I should have refused delivery. It took almost an hour to get to a real person, so I wasn't about to chalk it up to getting a jerk and call again. SO beyond frustrated with Moto at this point, I'll go out of my way to never buy anything else from them.

I loved it...but if like me you have arthritic hands then make sure you go to a local store and play with it. Between the size and weight I had a great deal of difficulty holding it.

First let me say that I'm truly sorry that domthewop and others have had a bad experience with this purchase (and I'm REALLY sorry I did not manage to make a deal woth domthewop before he left to dispose of his Xoom). Before I read in this discussion forum that Woot was aware of the demo unit issue and might do something I was able, after about 30 minutes on the phone to Motorola, to open a case with Moto support and get a return authorization, shipping label, and box. The materials arrived on Friday, July 23. By then I had found out that Woot was probably going to do something about the demo units. I opted to wait, besides, it was not really convenient for me to send it back over the weekend. By the following Tuesday I received word that Woot was going to replace the demo units. I decided to accept the Woot solution, mainly because I could continue to play with the demo until the new one arrived. I received the replacement unit last Thursday. It appears to be good and it updated to 3.2 within the first 30 minutes of being online. Other than the time it took for them to work out the details I would say that Woot took care of me pretty well. I'm happy with what I got. It took a little patience on my part but it paid off.

If you received a demo unit (Settings -> About Phone, look for the word "demo" in the build number) and have not done anything about it, you need to fire off an email to service@woot.com and include the serial number that is under the SD card slot.

If you received a unit that was defective in some other way (not including the demo software issue), the ad plainly said the unit had a 1 year warranty from Motorola. The demo unit issue raised a lot of attention around this sale but the reality is that it did not change the deal for those that got a broken unit. Every electronic device has a certain percentage of failure. Your recourse was to contact Motorola. That was what you signed up for when you bought the Xoom in the first place. It's not Woot's fault if you chose not to pursue that course of action or if somehow you feel Motorola stiffed you on the warranty (I'm not saying that anyone has blamed Woot, I'm just sayin'). Woot even went above and beyond by allowing ANYONE to refuse shipment, something they were not obligated to do.

I doubt that Motorola, as a company, stiffed anyone on purpose. It's much more likely that you got a somewhat incompetent Motorola rep that did not handle your situation as well as they should have, although I will admit that the outcome is about the same either way. I have dealt with Motorola a lot in my job and there are (unfortunately) a fair number of incompetent people working there. If you have a defective unit, my advice is to keep after Motorola until you get satisfaction, because it is my personal experience that it is possible to get satisfaction from them, even though for some it might be more painful than others.

I hope this does not rub anyone the wrong way. I just wanted to try to relate my experience and hopefully steer some people in the right direction. I hope everyone (who still has their Xooms, at least) ends up with a good, working tablet. My wife really likes her's and she is really enjoying it.

Unfortunately, that is probably the case. Incompetence led them to believe that they were only replacing demo units, not normal units that had an issue. That, coupled with the fact that it takes FOREVER to get them on the phone, led to it actually being near impossible to get that satisfaction.

The long and short of it: I'll buy from Woot any day of the week (and I have wooted since this, making my 26th, I believe), but will go out of my way never to buy from Motorola again. They're a piece of work in my book, and I'm really disappointed.

Just took a vacation to visit family and friends throughout the Northeast. Being a good geek, I took my work laptop, personal laptop, Xoom, Sony ebook reader, and smart phone.

I have not yet ported all of my ebooks to the Xoom, so the ebook reader was used quite a bit. Since the Xoom does not have cellular capabilities, I used the cell phone quite a bit, too.

However, I never pulled the personal laptop out of the bag, and the work laptop was used just once (those darn customers, you know...). All other computing/browsing/emailing was handled with the Xoom. This was one of my best Woot purchases ever.

(on top of that, I was able to get my brother and sister-in-law addicted to Angry Birds while at their house)

Wow, I just got a follow-up call from them ... a little late, since there's absolutely nothing that can be done now.

I am determined to never do business with them, ever again.

Here’s a sad story with a so far costly and regrettable outcome about the Xoom confusion in July.

Purchased the Motorola Xoom on July 13. Amidst all the unforeseen confusion caused by Motorola, I was initially pleased with Woot’s constant update and communication with its buyers on the situation. However, once the lengthy shipping delay arose, I asked Woot for an RMA.

Woot authorized my RMA request, and their email indicated how to refuse delivery of the item. Woot would then refund the purchase once the item was returned to Woot. (Please note that Woot did not request a tracking number.)
I did exactly as requested, refused delivery at my post office (where item was delivered). The USPS then marked the item for return to Woot and sent it back on Aug. 5.
To date, I have received no refund. Woot can’t track the item after its initial delivery point, nor confirm it was returned. In all communications, Woot service requests a track number for refund, although this was not mentioned/requested in their return instructions. (However, the P.O. does not issue new track numbers for a returned FedEx SmartMail package, per their procedure (as explained by my P.O.)

I am out $404 to Woot, have no Xoom in hand, and no refund from Woot. This is a very regrettable, costly matter, hurting my finances as well my satisfaction/expectations of Woot’s handling of this situation.

Same boat, different situation. Difference is my ire is directed at Motorola, and I actually got to hold the Xoom in my hands for a few hours, LOL.

just wanted to say I bought a Xoom and had to send it back to Motorola to be fixed. Motorola fixed it extremely quick and it was back in a matter of days. I asked for a 4g one in return for my troubles and it seemed they were receptive to the idea except for the fact that they haven't made any yet supposedly. Just wanted to throw this out there to anyone who has had issues. If yours does break and you have to return it, ask for a 4g one and you may get it, as soon as they start making them!

Motorola, what you did cost you a handful of sales this holiday, as I convinced several friends to buy iPads for their kids instead of the Xoom. I am stillholding a major grudge over how this was handled, and money that you screwed me out of. Merry Christmas!!!
