I will wait for xoom 2 release in Q4 to either buy a xoom1 for $299 or the superior machine for a premium

On the Xoom having Flash capability AFTER an update to Honeycomb, I am not sure what's going on with that.

I installed 3.1 via OTA and Adobe Flash would still not work.

Note: I did not spend more than about an hour on all this. On seeing the microSD slot was not working, nor that I could play Adobe Flash files, I carefully repacked everything and returned the tablet.

From comments in here, other's experiences with Flash support has differed.

I went to Conan O'Brian's site that plays episodes in Flash format. Did NOT play.

I updated OTA to Honeycomb 3.1, went to Conan's site again, would NOT play Flash files.

What I heard was that the machine would have to be sent in to get the 4G and Flash upgrade.

I did not keep up on it, so maybe Motorola came out with a software solution for Flash, but it was NOT on the 3.1 update.

did you ever, you know, try downloading Flash from the market? Like you're supposed to?

Apple doesn't deserve credit for anything, they just take the base of everyone else's programs and puts ridiculous hipster crap into it, I mean look at what they did to Linux with their crappy OS' and they stole the "i" from IT people's abbreviation for internet in acronyms which doesn't make any sense for them to take!

Dude go to the Android Market and download Adobe Flash 10.3 and quit your PWNYing. Geez u sound whiny. I don't own a Xoom (I'm actually typing this all out on my gTablet) but your ill-informed comments are making this bad for everyone else.

I've had my Xoom for two months now and I absolutely love it. I will admit that mostly I browse or play games on it, but for that purpose it rocks. The Gorilla Glass touch-screen is very responsive and pretty.

Flash works fine (and has since just after I bought the tablet) and as of 10 minutes ago I have a working SD card slot with the upgrade to Honeycomb 3.2, though, frankly, I hadn't missed it since I had only used a little over 10Gb of storage so far.

Also for those of you still unsure, the device does have GPS and Bluetooth, but do not expect any upgrade to 3G or 4G unless you specifically buy that version of the tablet (which is not what they are selling here).

It is a little hard to use in direct sunlight, that is true, so if that is a requirement look elsewhere, but it's perfectly usable in daylight with just a little shade (I have it set to automatic brightness).

Bottom line: If I hadn't already paid almost $600 I would be in for one.

I was just at Walmart in Pullman WA and randomly picked this model up and turned it on. Its a fun toy, but im not ready to spend that kinda cash just yet.

It was also being sold for $200 more than this price.

Who says the Trilateral Commission isn't real? Or the North American Union? INGSOC, here we come! Alex Jones might be a little bit nutty, but at least I can watch his awesome videos on this Xoom device while sitting in my WiFi enabled SHTF bunker, cleaning my rifles and eating old popcorn. Civilization will collapse eventually, though, and what good will this be then, with no interweb, not to mention power? I guess you could use it as a flat plate, or tie it to a branch to use as a paddle to ford a river. It could probably fly like a rectangular frisbee for recreation in between skirmishes with invading UN stormtroopers, or simply serve as an example of the wonders of past technology when you teach your grand kids about how awesome it used to be, before society imploded. They will only know rocks and scraps of tire as playthings. Don't let them get poked by the wires in the rubber, though, that stuff hurts.

Seems to me like you just don't know how to run your toy so there's no point in beating it to death with your bad skills and experience for anyone that would like it or does like it, and whoopie you have a few articles in a magazine, heard of a blog nobody uses magazines anymore

...and that's why some folks need Apple products, 'cause they work right out of the box. While I love the Android platform, not everyone gets it, even if it seems oh so easy to some of us. And I'm the first to admit it takes me forever to learn to use my new toys. So to the person who sent theirs back early, I hope you find something that works for you.

Staples today has emailed out a $50 discount coupon on any tablet in store. Net cost would be 450 for a new xoom wifi 16gb plus tax of course.

Would still probably go for the Asus Transformer though. Mention the staples deal just to keep it real.

I think Woot is less than accurate listing the micro SD slot when you consider that it doesn't work. I bought one last week at Staples with the 50$ off coupon making it 450$. After finding te Micro SD doesn't work and Motorola has been promising for months for the fix yet still has only taken care of Europe. I took mine back and got the Toshiba Thrive for 475$ which has full sized SD, full
sized and mini USB, and HDMI.

dantanion wrote:I also own the Xoom, early adopter. Having the capability to dim the screen to a lower level is nothing but a huge bonus. Everyone always makes a huge deal regarding the thickness of the ipad, however no one ever takes into consideration the 1 inch margin (rim) that surrounds the screen on the iPad compared to the 1/3 inch margin on the xoom. In total you get much more screen for what turns out for the Xoom, to be a smaller footprint than the iPad.

Daniel,
I bought the Viewsonic last month for my wife. I can't figure out how to hold the darn thing. I like to kick back on the couch and grasp it with one hand, tapping with the other. No matter which way I hold it, I'm always messing up the multi-touch with the other hand or triggering menu buttons. If the Xoom has even less margin around the screen, can you even hold it in your hand to use it, or does it have to rest on something (table, lap, etc.) all the time?

You know....as cool as these things are, I really feel that they are the Ultimate in Planned Obsolescence.
Within weeks, they are So worthless, and truly a waste of money. Too much money.
Just like my Epson Photo Scanner that just died...it will cost $195 to fix it. I only paid $80 for it!
So, now it is garbage, and I will have to spend $127 on a replacement, when this machine was perfectly fine till last week!

Does 'woot' have any type of word processing on it? (word /exce) etc?
I suppose you can connect a keyboard to use like a mini laptop?
Thoughts?

So I bought the gTablet a few months back from woot, and recently dropped it flat on it's back, cracking the lcd and rendering it rather useless. I called the service line, and was told that repairs would cost at least 175, over 2/3 the price of just buying a whole new gTablet.

The point: I'd like to buy this as a replacement, but want to have some sort of protection from my clumsy self. Any recommendations on some sort of protection plan so incidents like the one above won't end up quite so expensive?

Let's just say..."I am a PC".

So when I researched tablet computers, Apple was the last one I wanted to look at. I finally settle on the XOOM, while my better half wanted the iPad2.

For 1 month, we used and compared the two devices. The XOOM lost and was returned to the store yesterday. For the difference in price (the XOOM was much higher), the better features/apps of the iPad2, the weight of the iPad2 (it was lighter) and the iPad2's ease of use won over the Xoom, hands down. (Believe me, I am gagging on this...)

And Flash (on EITHER device) is not an issue, (you can even install it on the iPad2, with a little "persuasion".)

There are many Bluetooth keyboards which work fine.

Also many office apps available.

Also a few different methods to PRINT! Try that on a kool-aid pad.

It's hard to justify buying a tablet with the "usb android" version when none of them have usb...

I'm banking on a breakthrough in battery life before the next generation or two.

I got the Viewsonic from Woot! You're gonna want to root that puppy and flash vegantab on there (boo tapntap!!!). The viewing angle is disappointing, but so is the Xoom's I hear. I got internet flash games and everything to work eventually (except Songsterr, can't figure out what that site wants) once I got honeycomb on there and dolphin browser hd...
