How have we left out Half-Life?... well, I guess it's not really a "console" video game, but still, it was so revolutionary!

Super Mario 64 isn't even the best Mario game of all time. Super Mario Bros. 3 for NES was the pinnacle of video gaming.

Yup. The Legend of Zelda series definitely has a better storyline than Mario, although "better" is definitely debatable.

Zelda is awesome,
but remember Lunar and Lunar two for sega CD - those games were the best.
and in that same line.
what about the Suikoden franchise - i wish they'd make another one of those - priceless.

Zelda, of course.

Mass Effect is up there, definitely, along with every other Bioware series and the Elder Scrolls games and Fallout series. There are a lot of game series that I prefer to the ones listed, though.

Zelda, METROID, and Assassin's Creed should all be on that list.

Zelda would get my vote, though individual game would go to Super Metroid.

And the fact that I'm the first one to mention Metroid saddens me to no end.

Nope, I'm sticking with it. Zelda is the best franchise in console gaming.

I would have selected final fantasy, but i haven't really played an awesome one since 7. No, I'm not one of THOSE kids, I am aware that III is the best.

But, since it's been 6/10 and below in my book starting with 8...gotta go with the classic Mario. Endless fun as a child and even today.

NES = Mario
SEGA = Sonic
XBOX = Halo

Where the other two games on playstation or something? Trying to determine why Resident Evil and Final Fantasy made the cut over many other great, "game-changing" game franchises.

Legend of Zelda! Although I'm crazy about the Assassin's Creed series as well.

no franchise is best its simple as that. all series have there games nad their down fall. like halo CE really good game. 2-3 games later utter crap. mario good game but again after the nes, it went down hill. as almost every video game has. so i say none win the title of best.
