That's entirely subjective; personally, I think that ODST and Reach were some of the best Halo games, and they're the two most recent incarnations. I'm willing to bet there are many who feel that there have not been a single game in at least one of the noted series that they did not enjoy. So you may feel that there is no best series, and you would be correct; another may feel that Mario is the best series, and they are also correct. That's how opinions work.

The problem with Zelda is every game is the same - 8 dungeons, princess, Ganon, heart containers, yada yada. Give me some variety, some plot. I'll go Final Fantasy.

MYTH, Myth 2 Soulblighter is probably my favorite game. It was a glorious time back when Bungie made games other than HALO sequels.

Eh. Console games are overrated. PC games are where the great franchises are at. The best franchises are blizzard games, but just to name one Diablo.

The Legend of Zelda, as others have stated I don't see how that one was left off the choices. Then again I am a child of the 80's and grew up loving the games.

The Half-Life series

Mass Effect, Call of Duty, Star Wars (KOTR, etc), Elder Scrolls (Oblivion, etc), Need for Speed, Fallout, Tom Clancy (Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, etc)...poo on all the available choices except for "other"

Metroid was high on my list until The Other M came out...

Mutant League Football and Mutant League Hockey for the SEGA Genesis were the bomb, yo! Best sports game franchise ever.

It was surprising to see Call Of Duty left off this list since it is one of the top selling franchises of all time with at least 73 million copies sold, closing in on Madden NFL and Sonic - and likely flying by them with MW3. They will then be shooting for the 8 game franchises to sell over 100 million copies, only 3 of which made your list of options...

I still vote Halo...or maybe Sonic...yeah, Sonic FTW,

I'd like to say Prince of Persia; but it doesn't have an exclusive console history.

I think Castlevania and Mega Man both have Sonic the Hedgehog beat.

I am obviously too old, because when I think console games I think Asteroids. Then Sinistar- does anyone remember that, you're trying to mine asteroids for bombs, kill little ships, and then comes this HUGE VOICE "Sinistar is Coming, HaHaHaHaHaHa"
Very Creepy, especially (I understand without personal knowledge) if one was a bit f***ed up!
But my first game was pong, my brother & I played for HOURS.

Not very challenging, but incredibly fun and addictive! (And yes, I'm fully aware that the target audience is like 2 decades younger than I am...)

+1 for Zelda.

Although it's a short series, I think God of War ought to be considered as well...I held out on a PS3 for a long time and only gave in when God of War 3 came out...
