Buying a TV that is likely to break within the first year is not a good buy.

Thanks, I will not buy.

I could not agree with this more. I purchased a Philips TV new, and of course, like this poster says, it died. A quick search on the web showed that my problem was a MAJOR problem for my particular Philips TV, and I was just another lucky owner. It was 3 months past warranty, so tough luck for me. Their customer service sucked, they refused to do anything even though it was a well-known issue, and basically gave me the middle finger of their corporate hand.

I will NEVER buy another Philips product, and I feel obligated to tell as many folks as I can to stay away from their products. I wouldn't buy ANYTHING from them, based on their QC, their customer service, and their complete lack of concern for their customers. If this TV was 5 bucks, I would pass.

Their business model seems to be to build products to last just long enough to make it beyond the warranty date, hope the product dies, and enjoy watching their customers scramble to try to get Philips to fix it.

I loathe Philips. You should too.

I quit buying Philips products over 5 years ago after having 3 different Philips pieces of equipment quit working within a year.

As God is my witness, I WILL NEVER BUY A PHILIPS BRAND PRODUCT AGAIN.

(And highly recommend nobody else does either.)

my 1st LCD that i purchased back when they came out was a philips. It lasted no longer than 18 months and was going to cost around $400 to repair it for a 37". I started looking around (on google) and the issue that i was having turns out to be a very common issue with that particular model. Needless to say, I havent bought a philips brand since that whole fiasco. I considered this tv until i saw it was a philips just b/c im looking for a small tv to throw in the spare bedroom and want something cheap b/c it wont be used but once a month..

Don't do it!!! I bought this last time. First one was stuck on a white screen when not HD. Second one was the same problem, but a green screen. Third one finally worked...it wasn't worth the trouble to keep calling Philips, giving a credit card for a hold, worrying when they'd leave a box showing it was a tv on my steps when I was at work, then taking the old ones to ship back. Avoid this deal.

Got this last time it was on Woot. It's an OK TV, but I wish I'd held out for the Visio. The one feature it lacks is a "favorites" selector. On the plus side, when I hooked it up in the bedroom with no cable box, just a cable line into the back, I now get some weird new channels and true HD of all of the big network channels.

In for one as a bedroom TV. Considering its replacing a 27" tube weighing about as much as my gf, anything more attractive and light is fine by me. In reality just need a new TV for all those Law and Order SVU marathons.

btw: everybody quoting everyone else who ever had a friend whose brother's cousin worked at best buy and said 60hz sucks; 60hz and 720p still look freggin great. Played my ps3 on a 60hz/720p samsung for over a year now from no more than 5ft away(yes, brain to bananas), and iv'e never said to myself "that damn 60hz"

i lOVE woot!

Got one of thes on last timeit wooted.
When Direct Tv turned it on for the first time there was a great picture on half the screen saying "LIPS". The left half was black. Philips service was great-and easy to deal with. Gave them a credit card# and in came another one with a shipping lable to send the old one back.
It has a beatiful picture and very good sound and lets you tweak the picture as you see fit. It is a greattv.

I had a similar experience, except mine broke after 121 days. No repair offered. Does anyone wonder while SO MANY Philips Refurbs are offered on Woot? Because SO MANY BREAK. Avoid Philips - less you need an odd sized paper weight!

I do not know why it would not be a good monitor? I use my 42inch as a monitor, just from a decent distance away. As long as you match the TVs resolution, it should look great.

I bought this last time around for the kids to play games on and am going to buy another one today for our bedroom, it is an good tv for the price - my only complaint are the speakers, but fixed that with a cheap surround sound system... it was delivered UPS and it only took 4 days to get here, amazing for WOOT.
The settings are simple to change, it works best in retail mode, the colors are brighter and shraper. One more thing, I could not, no matter what, get the volume control to work on our universal cable remote - even the cable company could not to it, just a heads up.
