Just woot'd it, delivered today, was very excited... Immediately linked it to netflix, and I have to say, this is the most infuriating piece of electronics I have ever purchased. I immediately searched google for: "roku piece of s***" and found this website: www.rokuplayer.org needless to say, I'd pay for another XBOX or PS3 anyday to avoid this kind of garbage entering my house again.
My two Roku's are currently taking the grand tour of Dallas, Texas. I hope they take some snapshots!

Actually, considering the number of ventholes I saw on the top of that box, plus the reports I have heard on here of them catching fire, I certainly wouldn't fit it just 'anywhere' unless that 'anywhere' had lots of vent space around it.
Shipped 7/27 got it yesterday 7/29... Can't set it up till Monday though b.c of work this weekend! Blah freaking work...
Got mine yesterday without ever receiving a shipping notification. I'd been hoping to get it this weekend, but I figured Smartpost would prevent that. Setup was easy and quick (the hardest thing was finding someplace to plug it in) and it works great! Thanks Woot!
Got mine today. It booted, downloaded a software update, rebooted, had me go through the registration and activation process, rebooted, had me go through the activation process again, rebooted and then never came back to life. The Roku forums talk about a factory reset by holding down the reset button for 30-40 seconds. This did nothing. HDMI, component and composite video out are all blank (composite actually flashes some white squares on the screen). Roku support had me walk through some troubleshooting steps and then asked me to call Woot to get a replacement. Bummer. Anyone else having any problems?

Yes, not sure what the deal is with mine, but couldn't get past the "enter your password" screen for the wireless home network. I was able to move the cursor over from a to the letter b and then....... nothing..... absolutely NOTHING from the remote. Unplugged the Roku, plugged back in, took batteries out of remote, put back in, nothing. On restart, not even the "OK/Enter" button works. Nada. How infuriating. Natch, without the remote, I can't even figure out if the darn box itself works.
I got mine today, hooked it up and went through activation with ease. I guess I should count myself lucky.
Unfortunately, my refurbished roku failed to install correctly. It downloaded a auto-update, proceeded to install it and then crashed. I don't know if it had any bearing on the issue but I was using a wifi connection rather than ethernet. Over an hour with roku customer service attempting a reset. No luck. Will try a warranty return next week.
hooked mine up relatively easy. kinda disappointed in the seemingly few number of channels you can select as "My Channels" before roku runs out of space. you'll need to be very selective about channels you want to keep and maybe have a few channels you add when you want to watch them and rotate through to check out new channels. there is no on and off button. i came home tonight and the blue indicator light was off. unplugged it and plugged it back in...still no blue light. gave up on it and watched netflix via ps3 and power & the light for the roku finally came on. not sure if that is a problem or not, but if it does it again i'll send it back. not worth the headache of randomly losing power when there is no on/off button to cycle to get power back on.
I've got mine connected via HDMI, works great. Power light goes off after TV has been off for a while and turns ona few seconds after TV power or pushing a button on the remote.

If you point the remote at your cell phone's camera or a camcorder, it should show if the remote is lighting up. We can't see IR light, but ccd chips can. You may simply have dead batteries or your TV may be broadcasting an intrefering light signal (discussed elsewhere in this thread).

Apparently, Woot shipped my unit with dead batteries! I was able to get it set up in no time after I found some AAA's still hanging around. The only disappointment is that it seems like half of the stuff I want to watch on Netflix is DVD only. Sigh. Oh well, still beats cable at $7.99 a month! BTW, thanks for the handy tip! That is certainly a neat little trick to know about.
Recieved mine yesterday. Setup was pretty simple. Not using netflix or anything pay right now. Just was looking for something for the boys to be able to turn on and watch some cartoons. With as many channels it looks like it has, it may take a little while to see if there are any that really will add anything I dont already have with cable. For two Jacksons, not really a bad deal. I had having anything with subscriptions, so this will be a welcome addition for options when I'm looking for something watch off the wall. Doesn't appear to be any issues with setup on mine. going to try the roku andriod app now.
I had a similar experience. I just wanted to clarify. Should we call Woot! or Roku for replacement. I thought we should contact Roku rather than Woot!

The original post said that the warranty was 90-days with Roku.

I just got off the phone with Roku customer support they claimed that Woot! was the responsible party and they wouldn't honor a warrant because the Roku box was refurbished from 2009. I advised the rep that the information I had was that Roku warranted the device. The rep stated. " sorry" contact Woot! Then he tried to sell me on a Roku 2. I told him I wanted composite output for an older television. I hope someone from Woot! will contact Roku and let them know they need to honor their warranty agreement.
Well mine came with batteries pre-installed, great! right? HA no, because they LEAKED all over the inside of the remote, effectively destroying the remote. I just got off the phone with customer service at Roku who said if I forward them my woot receipt they will replace it, unfortunately I have to pay for shipping to ship it to them >.< I've gotta stop buying refurbs off of woot...
Just hooked mine up. This is my 2nd Roku; first was a respiffed one from several Woots ago. This new one Runs great, and the old one is still going strong. Thanks, Woot!
I have the dreaded HDMI blue screen. Unit boots, I see the first 2 booting screens that say Roku then bam, solid blue and nothing. Found thread on Roku forum that basically made me thing it's a peculiarity with my TV and I'm outta luck. I refuse to use component cables.

I then took it to the bedroom, where I have the exact model that's been working there for 2 years, hooked it up and it says "invalid format" after the first "Roku" boot screens.
I am suppose to be getting mine today in NJ. However, the status on Fedex is still showing July 28th departing from FEDEX SMARTPOST KANSAS CITY, KS. =(
OK, I tested this unit on 2 different TVs, the bedroom TV has had the same exact model hooked to it for 2 years now with only the usual glitches that work themselves out. On the bedroom TV I had to hook it up composite, reset it to 720p, then reboot with the hdmi. End result, 4 boots and 2 worked, the 1st and fourth didn't. 1st boot ended up at fullscreen green, seen that before. 2nd boot worked, booted it again and the TV ended up giving me "no signal". Power cycled again and it worked. I then moved it back to living room to hook back up to my 2003 Samsung DLP, hdmi to dvi cable. Get the boot screens as before, when it switches to the Roku channel menu its a blue screen. So, its 2 for 4 on the bedroom LG TV, 0 for 8 on the Home Theater. I blame HDMI and DRM and I'll be damned if I hook it up via component. Might have to return this unless anyone has any bright ideas?
Howdy folks! I got my Roku today and hooked it up. I got through the set up fairly easily and linked it to my amazon prime account. Tested the newscaster with NBC and BBC and they played fine with no issues at all. Then I tried playing amazon Prime. I can't figure out how to search...so...yeah... But the weird thing is once I start playing the video (non-HD) the remote becomes useless. I have to stand a foot away and even then it's a coin toss. But on the newscaster channel, the remote works from twenty feet away with no problems at all. Other than that weirdness with amazon, mine works great so far. --mop

And if you clicked on the later pages there you'd see the site is abandoned and infested with posts that this forum won't let me describe. That being said, having issues of my own here. I switched to component cables and still DOA. No HDMI, no component, don't think my TV has composite and I wouldn't bother if it did to be honest.
Pretty pleased I was basically able to replicate your findings. Anyway, we're happy to help with DOA Roku boxes- we have more in stock and are willing to take them back in for a refund. I know I've gotten a couple strongly worded unhappy emails so far today.
Grrrr, just got mine and set it up and no audio. Tested another roku and determined that the problem wasn't the TV or cabling. Then contacted Roku support who had me do a factory reset. I did that and it didn't help. Refurb = no audio for me. Sending it back
Having problems with mine, too. So, anyone know if we're supposed to go through Roku or Woot on this? I don't want a refund, I want a Roku that works.
Got mine yesterday and all seems to be well. This is my second Roku and when I activated the device, it tried to install all the channels from my existing device. The new units must have less channel memory than my older, but higher model level device. I get an error when exiting the channel store that there is not enough memory for the channels I selected and that I should go back and delete some. Sure enough, my list of channels got chopped off. I had to delete about half of the channels to get the error message to go away. I guess if there are any new channels I want, I'll have to pick one to delete. These seem to be entry level devices. I just wanted to let you know that if you get yours working, you may not be able to load every channel you want. Something to consider before you buy a bunch of channels and find out you can't load them all.
Got mine yesterday, hooked it up via HDMI and ethernet, and all seems to be good. I linked the Roku to my existing Netflix account and watched a few things with no issues. Thankfully, so far, so good.
Arrived yesterday, a day early. Setup was easy. Everything works great, except that it hung on a channel once and I had to unplug it and restart. I may have just been too impatient, but will keep an eye on it during the warranty period. Channels added quickly and easily, and surprisingly, this little box has a better Netflix picture than either my Tivo Series 3 or Samsung Blu-ray player! I was shocked at the clarity of the HD titles I played.
Got mine today. No remote whatsoever. Kind of a hunk of plastic without that. Perhaps I can tell my Harmony Universal that I have a Roku. Very frustrating.

Harmony works great with a roku. you will pull your hair out trying to tell the harmony software what the roku is so let me save you the aggravation. To the Harmony your Roku is a DVD player. And as a final note to my rants above about my Roku not working with my 2003 Sammy DLP with DVI, I finally used the cheap composite cable that came with it to make a component connection and it worked! Real component cable didn't. I'm guessing I need a spiffy new TV with several HDMI inputs. Now, does anyone know of Netflix will ever stream DD 5.1? :P
I received my Roku-poo on Tuesday (Aug. 2). I set it up, it updated, and I watched stuff for several hours. I was very happy for those few hours. I try to use it the next day and it doesn't work, it just gives me a blank white screen on the TV and a blinking light on the Roku device. I tinker with it and then contact Roku support. I jump through their hoops of unplugging it, resetting it, etc. Finally we discover the HDMI output doesn't work. It only worked using RCA wiring. Roku support is happy with this, I am not. I state I want HDMI. Then he asks where I bought it. I explain: Woot. He states I am supposed to go through them for a refund or replacement. That's crap. Woot says 90 day manufacturer warranty. Now I will see what happens with Woot. I would guess I will only get a refund, but I don't want a refund. I really liked the device when it worked. It was way better than the Sony streamer I have.
