When on long trips, I hook up to our dual headrest monitors (the DVD ones from Walmart) to my Roku using the standard video/audio jacks, and connect to my cellular hotspot for the kids to watch Netflix while on the road (using a dc/ac inverter to power the Roku, they both fit nicely under the passenger side seat).

These things are great and so portable you can bring them anywhere for entertainment.

Not according to Roku's website which compares their 3 models, 1080p starts at $79.99

The "HD" model for $59.99 is only 720p

We don't use a ton of the additional channels, but I do have a kid that is into anime and he really likes the Crunchy Roll channel.

Crunchyroll channel?! So much better than Netflix or Hulu for watching anime. I'm sold!

I'm gonna jump on with the praise for the Roku!

For all of you who have had negative experiences using tv or blu-ray devices for streaming netflix and other services, this device is the cure! It does what it does great.

I bought two Roku's for Christmas gifts last year, one for a friend and one for my Mom. They are both used daily and have turned into one of those 'can't live without' devices. The choice of services available is unmatched, it is VERY easy to use even for the technically, even the three year old at my friend's knows how to use it to watch cartoons on netflix. My Mom loves the ability to view her Picasa web albums of her grandkids on the TV and have them stream as a slideshow when the device is unused for awhile. Even though my Mom has an older non-hd TV im her room the picture still looks great and all the text is readable.

While I am well aware there is the Roku 2, and you won't be able to play Angry Birds and the like on this one, for $45 this is still a great device for many users (especially those with non 1080p TV's or older Non-HD TV's). I may get one of these for when I pic up a second cheap TV for my bedroom and replace my Sony Dash.

This is one of those products that it is hard for me to find flaws with which is rare these days.

You know the HD that woot is selling here only goes up to 720p as well right? Hence why I compared the cheapest Roku 2 in price to this deal. I still bought one of these from today's woot since the price makes it to attractive to pass up for my other tv.

I'm reading at Crunchyroll's forum that they haven't encoded much of their anime for 720p on the roku yet. Apparently they have to do a separate encoding for Roku vs what they do for the main channel and Boxee.

Would someone please look at their Roku 2 (or the Roku 1) and see if it supports 220 (110-240 on the adapter) I'm currently deployed and I would love to pick something like this up without having to stick it on a transformer! Thanks for looking

Yes, I know that and stated that in another previous comment. I was referring to your $69.99 model that doesn't exist. All of their models are "hd" quality, but if you want 1080p you need to at least spend $80, so I assumed that's what you were referring to since there wasn't a 69.99 model available.

Anyways, in for 2 more. They will be sold out before lunch time so get em while you can.

Anyways, No, can't set up wireless through PC, you must set it up on the Roku. Good luck with that.

As crazy as this sounds, the effective distance of the remote reduces as the box warms up, to the point that you have to be within about 12 inches from the front for it to work. The box was under my plasma tv and so I thought perhaps the sensor was being swamped with IR from the tv, but the problem didn't go away after moving the box.

So anyway, I do love my roku box, even when i have to get a little close to use it. Simple and effective access to streaming content.

It sounds like the IR sensor is bad. You can probably replace it with one from an old DVD player.

I'm not sure what you mean, but I'll try to answer. My Cellular connection outputs 1-1.5mbps when used as a hotspot in 3G mode and between 10-30mbps in 4g mode. Easily streams Netflix as long as I have a data connection, and buffers enough that when I go through a tunnel and lose signal that it doesn't interfere with the actual viewing of the movie.

Good timing - I've been having trouble hooking up a Mac Mini in our bedroom to an older TV(CRT HD TV.... big pimping). DVI to Composite, Component, and S-Video and no luck. The TV doesn't have HDMI, so the Roku will do everything I'd like it to and through the component. It'll be nice to have another option for NBA League Pass and Netflix. The Mac Mini will go into my media room for whatever reason.

You log into your web account at ROKU and enter the key words and BAM your Roku gets the channel. PLEX looks awesome... go enter PLEX to get the channel, load the PLEX server on a PC/MAC/LINUX (like a Squeezebox Server) and you get something like a BOXEE with more content from the internet and your local files. Presently only video, music and pix to follow soon.

Just out of curiosity, I tried to purchase the new Roku 2 from their website..... by the time they get done adding $10 shipping and taxes, the bill for the basic $59.99 Roku HD was going to be $75...... I said forget it, and ordered the Woot one instead.... who needs the new 'blazing fast GPU' if it's going to be another $30 bucks.... Sheeesh.

Thanks, Woot!, for not gouging us on taxes and shipping.... means a lot to us folks out here.

Yes, Hulu + is the same price as Netflix but it's useless, all they have are old b/w movies nobody would want to watch and clips of TV shows but not the actual shows.

I have the channel issue with one of my boxes. I can only get about 23 channels before it tells me I can't add any more. Customer service was no help. Haven't had any problems with the others, although I've seen a number of other people with the same issue on the forums. I think it depends on which version of the box you have.

if i cant do the local network streaming, im sure i wont miss too much, netflix and the extra channels im sure will be enough for my bedtime tv watching.

and yes, i searched everywhere, didnt find a better deal price wise.

Yeah, shipping is free through Roku.com only on the $79.99 and $99.99 models. So basically it's their way of getting you to purchase their $80 model since after shipping/fees you'll be paying that anyways with the $60 model.

What I mean is a little bit of data is insanely expensive. On T-mobile I only get about 30mb per day for $1.49 on my cell. They also have a plan for 1Gb/mo, enough for a couple movies but it costs $50/mo!

Should be the same. If your PS3 buffers frequently then your Internet connection is at fault, not the PS3. Your PS3 should at least be receiving 1-2mbps to not have to continuously buffer. Check your Internet connection settings on your PS3 and use the menu options to "test connection" to see what your throughput is.

My PS3 buffers only when the movie starts and only then.

Netflix streaming package is now $7.99 under the new pricing. If you want DVD (1 at a time) it is an additional $7.99.

Prior to the price change, it was $9.99 for both, but streaming only has not increased in price.
