Wow- what a great price!-My 3rd memory foam bed is only a full size, and it was 6x the price of this. (Original Mfr that has TV ads) I have 3 memory foam mattresses. Two of which are the big name you see advertised. (Not sure I can list company names) One is a king, and being from the famous maker advertised costs much more than my 2nd one of a different manufacturer. The original king I bought was *awesome*. When my life changed, I had to get another, and decided to try another manufacturer (to save money) that felt *great* in the store. This is a national company, probably the largest, (or top 3). When they delivered the bed it was *nothing* like the showroom bed. They said "give it 3 months to break-in". I allowed my kids to jump on it like a trampoline to help. To this day (3 years later) I wish I had purchased the original version, not a knock-off. If you havent had the "top dog" you may not know you are missing much. If you have had the original, it is my *opinion* (and other family members) that you will notice a difference. With that being said, there are a lot of model names to choose from, from both companies, so your experience could be different. BTW-I bought the same grade from both manufacturers, (mattress depth, size, etc). Maybe I just got a "bad" bed. I just want to point out that the ones in the stores may be softer than what is delivered, and that not ALL memory foam is the same. Lastly- I have had others sleep over, and they commented on how great the bed is- But I dont think they have had a memory foam bed before-Pricing-(1st king bed-original-about 5000. 2nd king bed-look alike- around 2000) At this price I dont see how anyone could go wrong unless shipping is ridiculous or there is a catch. Thats my 2 cents-Hope this helps someone-Not trying to promote any one company, nor criticize another by the way- Night night....

I wonder if the extra 2 inches of foam would make a difference.

Yes, it does matter. I have a memory foam mattress with a 5-inch, 5 lb foam, and it works perfectly for me (since I am a side sleeper, I needed more than 2.5 inches). I got it on Amazon for twice as much as this but it's amazing and has a 20-year warranty on it.

Would not buy one..... Well, maybe for the dog

IMO, memory foam is the biggest con perpetrated against man since the moon landing. Above is exactly why: after 6 months, the only thing the mattress remembers is where you sleep... you know this because of the big sag in the spot where you lay every night. What a racket! I was shopping for a new bed... the sales guy had me lay down on this mattress with the 3" memory foam topper... it was very comfy in the store, but months later, there's a ditch where I sleep. I rotate it, so the ditch moves to me lower body and I get a little support on my upper body, but it doesnt last long. I'm just biding my time until I can buy a real mattress and get rid of this POC.

So many woots, so little time.

I purchased this last time it was on Woot a few months ago. Two things that come to mind; when you open it you better have some ventilation and not plan on sleeping on it the first day if not 2. Secondly it is CRAZY firm!! My wife couldn't stand how firm it was so I had to buy a topper for it that cost as much as the mattress. If you like firm and can properly ventilate it the first few days then this matress is great for the price. I wasn't a fan of the pillows, they got warm and weren't very breathable not to mention non of the regular pillow cases work with it

I didn't listen to the warnings when I bought one last year. This summer has been rough.

True, but there are ways around this. One is, if you can afford it, buy silk sheets! I have silk sheets and a silk comforter (silk is naturally VERY breathable) and I rarely, if ever, get hot at night (the temp at night is around 75-77).

We bought one of these last time around. It is hard as a rock in cold weather. A LOT of the people who bought last time got defective ones which never fully expanded. I'd stay away from this purchase if I had the chance to do it over again.

Bought the Twin last year for the same price as it's being listed for now, and it was the best money I ever spent. Seriously, not overly hard, and no noticeable sag at all a year later. Hell, mine only smelled for 2 hours thanks to 2 construction fans and an open breezeway Will not disappoint.

We bought this last time around. I love it, my wife thinks it is OK, but she likes a very plush and 'sinky' mattress. My back cannot handle that, so the firmness is good for me.

I think the majority of the problems for people complaining on here are weight related.

Think on it; if you are overweight/fat, you are going to ruin this mattress. I don't think it is designed for people over 250lbs. Sorry. I am 160 and my wife 130. And we have yet to notice any sag in any part of the mattress. I really just don't think think the quality of this foam (although I really like it) is set up for anything of a heavier nature.

If you are bigger/overweight, I would save your money and get a more dense, more expensive foam. With a warranty, because you'll want it.

Bought one of the 12" "deluxe" models when Woot! first had these. It's actually TOO soft for me. I sleep face down and this thing kills my back.

Got one of these hoping that because the memory foam is 1/2" thinner it will be better for me.

Plus - fitting sheets to the 12" thick version is like wrestling a bear every time I change the sheets (so, you know, twice a year)

The biggest question is where is the foam made... If it is made in china there is a good chance the mattress will have odors... we made the mistake of getting one of the cheap memory foam on poly mattresses... smells took nearly a month to really go away to the point you could lay on it without smelling them. Of course the real problem is the mattress is just not firm enough. The poly on the bottom part needs to be very firm to make the mattress work ours feels great for about half the night, but by the morning you've sunk in so deep that your back aches from sleeping in a bad position... Don't waste money on this, you have been warned.

sdc100 wrote:Guys, keep in mind that you get what you pay for -- even if you do get a little bit more here on Woot. At $299, don't expect the entire mattress to be made of memory foam. Indeed, the description honestly states that it's "Composed of 2.5-inch advanced ‘next generation’ viscoelastic (memory) foam on a 7.5-inch polyurethane base." That 7.5" polyurethane foam may offer support for a few months but it will inevitably sag within a year.

Actually even the very expensive ones are going to only be a few inches of memory foam, if it was all memory foam it would have no support and be like sleeping in a 10 inch puddle of mud. Though some have more than 2.5 inches, and 4 pound density is not very good. But then again I don't think anyone is going to expect a $250 mattress to be as good as a $2000. I would think that it is likely a good buy. I have one I paid $600 a few years ago for and it has been great, but does not feel like the tempurpedic for sure.

Know if this can be cut to fit? Can it be cut easily and more so, cleanly? Will the cut edge be nice or a jagged?
Have an old antique bed frame that is not a traditional size. It's just a bit smaller then a Queen. Wondering if this might be a solution.

These work fine on the floor, or on a sheet of plywood, or on an old waterbed frame (like mine).

A former employer (luxury coach manufacturer) used to cut the expensive brand name version of these down all the time. They used an electric bread knife with great success.

Depends on how you cut it. If you use a heated wire cutter, it will be smooth. If you use an old bread knife it will be smooth for each stroke, but the strokes will show up as reliefs on the edge. On the other hand, it will be wrapped in a sheet.

I suppose that you could clamp it between two boards, and then get a smooth cut. But let it expand first. If you handle it too much before it expands, it WILL tear.

We are quite sensitive to chemicals. When we got ours, we let it outgas in the garage for ten days. That was enough for most of the manufacturing fumes to dissipate, and we had no problems in sleeping on it after that.

Took another month for the odor to reach completely undetectable levels, but was quite acceptable to us. If covered with a sheet, then we could detect an odor when the sheet was pulled back. During that month, we left it uncovered during the day, to aid the continued, mild, outgassing.

This is our second memory foam mattress. Been sleeping on them for years, wouldn't have anything else.

Some people sleep on them the first night. I would not recommend that.

I bought one of these last time and it is so firm you really can't sleep on it. Plus, the smell of the foam took weeks to air out.

Good luck if you buy one!

Any idea how long it'll take for these to arrive? I'm moving on August 5th and it would be perfect to have this arrive shortly after.

At this price, it seems like a great deal. Even if it only lasts a few years, it's only $250. The ones at IKEA cost around $450 and are only 3.1 lb density (compared to 4 lb here) and I don't want to spend thousands on a Temperpedic.

I've seen a couple comments on "you get what you pay for" - and I hate to break it to you, but "memory foam" is pretty much memory foam. The big names can lay claims to some sort of proprietary foam technology - but the technology exists in the wild and "memory foam" can be had from nearly any foam mfgr. I've lain on a $2500 big-name mattress and it was absolutely no different.

Prior to my $300 Woot! mattress I had a $1400 air-and-foam mattress, and the Woot! unit sleeps nearly identical (save the near rock-hard firmness I prefer that ultimately lead to my killing the air portion and requiring the replacement)

I bought the Woot! unit because I was tired of fighting with the mattress company over support of their warranty. The Woot! purchase was intended to be a stop-gap measure because it was cheap - but ultimately it ended up being a reasonable enough replacement that I was OK with it - until this one came along with a potential promise of being a bit firmer....

For $250 this is an awesome mattress for ANYONE.

I bought a memory foam mattress a few years ago, from Wal-Mart. Thing was hard as a brick, very uncomfortable to sleep on. Sure, after half an hour you eventually sink in, but my hips hurt for that first half hour, and if I rolled over, the process had to start all over again. Plus, memory foam RETAINS ALL HEAT, so it's like sleeping on a heating pad turned on high.

Finally I bought a 4" latex foam topper, and now I sleep like a baby, best bed I've ever had.

SmartPost: when you absolutely, positively, don't have to have it for a month or so.

If your existing mattress isn't totally shot you should consider getting 3-4" memory foam topper. I think a good quality old mattress with a memory foam topper is better than a cheap memory foam mattress.

If you have box springs this is your easiest solution as box springs will not properly support a memory foam mattress. It will get a big pit in the middle unless you replace the box springs with a memory foam mattress foundation, use a bed board, or buy a platform bed.

Bought this same mattress last year from woot. It took 2 days for the mattress to completely expand (didn't sleep on it during that time, just laid it flat on the floor and flipped between days). It took about a week for the chemical-smell to clear out noticeably and about 2 weeks for it to go away completely.

I will say it was very hot to sleep on at first, I would strongly suggest a non-foam material mattress topper (I got a reasonably priced one at IKEA).

These types of mattresses need to sit on flat bases. I've been using it with an IKEA slatted base, its working out fine so far.

My boyfriend and I aren't the slimmest people but we haven't had problems with permanent indents in the mattress, but I do flip it every so often, which might help.

Overall, I'm really happy with the price and the quality. I love this bed, so comfortable! He complains its too comfortable, makes him lazier on the weekends.

I bought this in a previous Woot (for $50 more, I think) and have been really satisfied. The smell did last for about 2 weeks, though, and it was pretty pretty obnoxious. Still, as a light sleeper I have to say that putting this mattress in a sleigh or platform bed with no box spring is about the best possible way to keep your partner's movements from jostling you awake. Best sleeping situation I have ever had.

bought this last time it was on woot. my girlfriend and I love it . We both sleep very comfortably. we bought a frame at ikea and it does the job perfectly. We also have ikea sheets on it and it doesn't make you sweat at all. I only sleep with a sheet though because i naturally run hot. The mattress comes rolled and it springs to life. The smell will go away after a while . I can sleep on my back side or stomach with this mattress. if you want a good quality mattress get it. I am glad i did.
