I got these the last time they were offered. Work flawlessly out of the box. Plug in AC. Plug in ethernet cables. Make popcorn. At this price, it's silly not to stock up!

I always carry a five port switch in my repair bag. Great for quick repairs on peoples networks. (Along with network cables from Monoprice.com)

i know this is poooonyic but does this connect to your router wireless or wired?

Yes. Plug this into one of your router's ports, then plug up to 4 more items into it, and you've effectively expanded from 4 ports, to 7.

In most cases, yes. 10/100 will be more than adequate for 99%+ of people who just need to add more ports. Gigabit helps if you routinely transfer enormous files or have a very large network.

If you just need more ports to connect printers/drives/media players/another computer/etc, this will suffice admirably.

Yes, you would just plug an Ethernet cable from one of the router ports to one of the ports on this switch and then have three extra ports. No configuration necessary.

I have the gigabyte version of this switch and it has been great. Some people might say "Oh, 10/100?? LOL It's SOOOOO slow." It most home networks 10/100 plenty. In most networks, the speed of the hard drives are the limiting factor of how fast you can transfer data between pcs on that network. Unless you have some screaming fast raid unit or SSD and you are transferring to a very fast drive, you are not going to notice much (if any) of a difference between a 10/100 and 10/100/1000 switch.

Go ahead and stock up at this price!

I want to be one of those guys that go "10/100 that's useless" I really do. Especially since I can directly connect my computer to anyone else's without a switch to work on them. And yet, even though they will probably sit in my closet in the box for the next 10 years.... They are just so Damn cheap....

It will connect to any router than has an ethernet port available. The connection must be made via a cable.

Most people have wireless routers with 4 ethernet ports available, so it can connect to both.

In for three, like I meant to do last time but somehow only ordered one.

My home network is wired for gigabit LAN. However, these come in handy for various things. For a few bucks each, you can't go wrong.

This was the standard technology before wireless was used. It is a device for creating a WIRED network.

Works great for networking devices, but it requires you to hook up ethernet cables for the devices to talk to each other.

That's it folks! It's just a device you use if you want your network to kick it old-school!

Would've been great if they were gigabit (100/1000) ports, but at this price, they are still great bargain. In for 3.

5 port switch, yes still down to 3 on the router, plus 5 = 8

Yes, 5 ports in the back - but one of those ports is the input leaving 4 active ports output.
