theboles wrote:Mine came in today. Can't tell if it's DOA, or just that the battery has no charge. When I plugged it in, there was no indication that it was charging. On the right side of the face, the panel had been popped out of the case, so there was a ~2mm gap. I pressed lightly on it, and it snapped into place, but I think this guy might have been damaged in shipping. No sign of impact on the packaging.

Can anyone tell me if these things do not respond at all until the battery is charged?

Actually they come partially charged (at least mine did).
Even if it wasn't charged, as soon as you plug the charger into the device, the device automatically boots up. If the device isn't partially charged upon arrival, then you might have to let it charge for a short while before it will boot, but anything more than an hour seems unnecessary. If after allowing it to charge for a bit, and you still aren't able to power up the device by pressing the power button on the top of the device, you might want to give HP call.

The order number deosn't work on the fedex site, and the service reps at Woot are no help at all.

If it makes you feel any better, I just received my shipping confirmation email with tracking number this morning...two and half hours after the package already ARRIVED at my door.

Oh, the irony.

I ended up calling HP support and they had me do a hard reset. It's alive! I am typing this response on it. ;-)

Its easy to copy files up/down to your touchpad & PC. Streaming doesn't appear to be supported by the official box.net client, probably to avoid ticking off the RIAA & MPAA who will sue anyone that looks like they have a music streaming service..

Having said that, there is an UNOFFICIAL box.net client from AbeSoft in the catalog that supports streaming. It's still a phone app so it opens in a mini-window but it has an "open file" option that triggers the streaming player.

Just use the official Box.NET app to set up your account first.

Oh, and you can map your windows PC to box net by mapping a drive letter to https://www.box.net/adv/

It's not supported. I think it likely has less to do with getting sued as it does with the idea of streaming music doesn't really line up with box.net's business model. They really seem to be focused on the business user more so than the consumer.

Also, shouldn't that link read https://www.box.net/dav/
I think they're using the WebDAV service.
Also if https gives you trouble I've read that http works, although I haven't tried it.

Anything more you can provide than this? That response doesn't really help get information on the status. Still no response from Woot, still not info from FedEx.

Yep, that's a typo, should have been /DAV.

I have it working with HTTPS on my Vista laptop. Wish I wasn't on DSL; my upload speeds are abysmal.

Thanks! Is there any way of filtering them to show only Touchpad optimised apps?

On a side note, fedex tracking is still showing "in transit, Orlando, FL". I hope that's it's further along than Orlando! lol. Hasn't updated since Friday.

I still can't get any info. Order number doesn't bring up anything on FedEx. Woot is no help at all. Pretty weak service on their end that well after a week after processing an order they cannot even let you know if/when they can provide a tracking number. They can take the order and process the payment, but can't even let you know when it will ship? Very frustrating. Don't know of another company that works this way.

Arrived in a tiny box... roommate almost stepped on it on the porch!

Really happy with this so far. Installed the updates, fooled around a bit. App store seems to be down (at least for me) but I was doing some googling and found it sometimes takes up to 24 hours after an update to load the store.

No biggie. Jumped on youtube, turned up some good tunes. Really impressed at the sound quality! Very loud and clear. It's got def. jukebox appeal to it.

So, I finally hear something from Woot. They now are telling me that Fed Ex lost my shipment. they don;t have any tracking information, but know this, and have been "working on it." How they know it is lost by fedEx but don't know how to track it is a mystery - plus if they have been "working on it" why couldn't they let me know more quickly that they knew of an issue. FedEx, of course, was no help because i can;t supply them with tracking information. At this point I am just trying to get a full refund as this is ridiculous. I can order from Amazon. Spend the extra $20, but at least know I will get a product and their customer service actually tries to service the customer.

I flippin' love this thing. The interface is so much easier to use than the iPad's... multitasking is sweet... And there's almost no learning curve, although I keep finding out new tricks. Very intuitive.

Can't be happier with this thing... thanks woot!

"Out for delivery" and it couldn't be too soon. Really hoping my feelings about this order recover once I have it in hand.

Could HP/Woot have come up with a better way to make all 612 "suckers" feel jobbed by this? Sell via Woot, sounds like a great deal then IMMEDIATELY and permanently make the price cut permanent. So you put up with all the Woot hassles (long shipping times, no support, etc.) for little to no savings (and with coupon games, paying even more.)

Meanwhile the media is flooded with stories on how the tablet is tanking everywhere. Not HP's fault - I'm sure they're freaking out, but damn, if I could have cancelled the order I certainly would have. I bet a lot of us feel the same.

The 23" LCD I ordered 6 days later has already arrived. Of course!

Wow. So I'm reading that HP plans to discontinue WebOS devices.

"HP reported that it plans to announce that it will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones. HP will continue to explore options to optimize the value of webOS software going forward".

Major bummer!

I'm incredulous. I feel like a complete sucker. I was actually liking my TouchPad, then, 3 days after I get it HP kills support for WebOS.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/18/hp-will-discontinue-operations-for-webos-devices/

What....the....hell? They must have known that they were planning this, but I don't get their plan. A huge marketing blitz (I saw a TouchPad commercial as recently as this morning, and quite a few last night) then to kill the OS without even trying? This is insane.

So HP is discontinuing the Tablets and Phones to focus on software. They are looking at exiting the PC market as well.

Now how does that make your tablet worthless?

Sounds like WebOS is continuing on...

Yes the price will likely drop, but you got the best price at the time.

No offense to anyone but you could've seen this coming a mile away. Thing was on Woot a little over a month after release and at the same time HP was slashing prices and Staple had given up so much they had slashed another $100 off the thing. The stench of death was all over this tablet.

What's the Woot return policy?

uhoerhold

quality posts: 11 Private Messages uhoerhold
uhoerhold wrote:Yes, it will. What's HP's record in developing and maintaining an OS? Nil. HP will be reluctant to put any more money into webOS than is absolutely necessary.

Apple will always produce the easiest to use and best thought-out OS's. They have been doing it for decades, and they have an enormous following.

Android, on the other hand, has a huge amount of community contribution. It's not well-organized, but the community will keep it alive.

webOS will stay around only as long as it makes sense for HP to put money into it.

Except really, it wasn't. (Across the board price cuts, plus Staples coupon, etc.) Insult to injury is the ones that haven't even arrived before the announcement.

Not that I expect Woot to do anything, nor are the morally or legally obligated to do so, but still - sucks. A regular store I'd absolutely return/cancel the order on something like this. (I might keep one for the heck of it, but that's a different valuation than checking out a potentially viable platform.)

Yup. It arrived yesterday. Took it to a restaurant and couldn't get it to download the one thing I tried, facebook, so I shut it off.

Got it out today, dl'd a few things over home wi-fi, put it away, son called and told me the news.

I had >>> 20 minutes <<< of ... not even use, just downloading. Didn't even get prompted for the OS upgrade.

Ya know, I used to REALLY LIKE HP. I mean, I really did. My admiration started in the '70s.

I don't know how hosed up it was before Carly Fiorina, but it's been a sorry, sorry tale since her appearance there.

Wow. HP releases the touchpad too early, then discounts it to increase sales, then cancels it because sales didn't jump 1 million percent after 1 week.

So it appears HP management is incompetent and impatient. The consumer got completely screwed by taking a chance on them. They still own the OS, but who wants to bother getting screwed again by HP?

I really like WebOs, but I am forever finished with HP. They will never get another dime of my money, and should expect a class action lawsuit from all the early adopters who dropped $500 just to see their product discontinued after less than 3 months.

How long before a "Hitler finds out HP cancelled the Touchpad" video hits Youtube?
