Refurb, not such a great deal.

Either my eyes are going, my monitor is terrible, or that just isn't very olive-y looking in my mind. Too dark.

Nice! I paid about this much for my used K10D a few years back. Would love to buy one of these today, but don't have the money right now. Maybe it will come around again on the next Woot-Off...

Digital Photography Review likes it well enough.

I would seriously consider this except that every time I get excited and buy a relatively expensive camera I find that I still don't take a lot of photos. And when I do, they're not very good. Until they come out with a camera that automatically creates good composition, I'm screwed.

Unfortunately, there is no correlation between shutter speed and shutter lag.

I have one of these and LOVE it. Takes beautiful pictures, even if you don't really know what you're doing, and even more beautiful ones if you have a hint of a clue. Paid something like $700 (new), so this is a screaming deal, assuming it's a good refurb. (Or new posing as refurb.)

GREAT CAMERA! Bought it to replace my Nikon D40 - look it up on snapsort.com. For the price, can't be beat...I got it for the same price on Amazon a while back, a lot higher now. This camera is also backwards compatible with most, if not all, K mount lenses - as in, I've been able to pick up old manual GLASS prime lenses for $25-30 on eBay that take phenomenal pictures. Can't say enough about mine, and the white is sharp looking.

No, nobody can translate that, because they're completely different things. Shutter lag is the time from when you press the button until the shutter opens. The shutter speed is the time from when the shutter opens to when the shutter closes.

Somebody at http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?newsID=4155&p=2
says they measured the lag on this model at 0.03 seconds, which is pretty quick. 1/6000 shutter speed is pretty fast, to, and I'm not sure where the normal person would need or use it.

When you say lag time do you mean the lag you usually get with a point and shoot camera? The difference between when you push the button down and think you are getting the photo and when it actually happens? Assuming that then this is a D-SLR and it should be virtually instantaneous. I don't have a Pentax but I've have a few DSLR bodies and they work, for the most part like the old film cameras where the mirror moves up and exposes the back of the camera to the light. Shutter speed is just how short the "film" or CCD in this case, is exposed to the light.

I never worry about refurbs. They're often better than new but I do purchase the warranty on higher priced items, just in case.
