I have sync turned off on my ipod touch- I just drag and drop the songs that I want and it works great. Love mine, and if I needed another one I would be all over this.

My thirteen year old has one (refurb off woot) and it is perfect for him cuz he don't need no phone!!

I payed another $5 for the warranty, and when it turned out to be a cardboard box filled with weights painted like an ipod, he wouldn't fulfill my warranty claims. I give the bum 2 stars.

DaveROR wrote:uhhh doesn't apple sell these for $179 directly? refurb version.

Apple's store is down right now, but google says:
Only $179.00. Refurbished 32GB iPod touch from Apple. Great Price. Free shipping . .... Built-in cameras + FaceTime. HD Video recording and editing ...

The $179 was for the last generation. No Facetime. I was looking at them just the other day. The 32gb current-generation refurb from Apple was, I think, $249.

I'd rather have an iPod Touch than an iPhone, and although I think the iPad is pretty and awesome, I can't justify buying one. However, as much as I want a new toy, I also can't justify buying a new iPod Touch (though I'm trying - bigger hard drive! camera!).

I have a Droid phone, and I'm quite fond of it. Before I had a smartphone, I got a first-gen iPod Touch, because I already had a phone and I'm in an area that's pretty saturated with wifi. It still works fine, no complaints, even the battery life is still good. I knew what I wanted from it and what I didn't want from it, and found it to be a reasonable purchase for my situation and needs.

Besides, having a Touch doesn't require me to pay AT&T ;)

I have an iPod Classic 160GB that I received as a gift. IMO iTunes is like having a virus on a PC. I use Winamp to manage the iPod's music library, synch, etc. It works quite well and doesn't automatically try to transcode all my MP3s to Apple format.

Hey, maybe I'm just a pony fan responding to troll bait, but you can turn off the auto-sync and manually drag and drop whatever songs you want onto your ipod/iphone/ipad from itunes. Problem solved, crisis averted

Once upon a time I used to wake up the entire family with the woot off song. My five year old somehow magically remembered this and is begging me to play the pod cast - Can someone kindly point to where it is, all we could find was the video and the blog...

Google "iTunes Alternative' and you will find there are plenty alternatives to iTunes!

Although, I have to be honest, I agree if your library is 'unorganized' it is a mess. However, if you take the time to organize it and keep it organized (not really that hard to do) I personally think it works really well! I have multiple iPhones/iPods that I sync and I can use my main library and sync playlists as I feel the need. It is still 'drag and drop' except you do it in your library. Once you create a playlist and you want to add a song instead of dragging the ENTIRE selection (again) you add one song to the library and you're all set!

It takes a little time, but from what I can tell, well worth it!

Besides, the 'Genius Playlists' are awesome on my Apple TV! Either the lists that iTunes creates or (even better) on the fly based on the song that is currently playing!

But hey... That's just me

The touch is the iphone without the crappy "phone" part. Oh, and the camera's not that great. Most of my family have iphones and the voice quality is terrible talking to them.

Is the sync on-off controls on the pod or the computer? BTW, Winamp does not work with the touch. I've tried many times. Although it IS compatible with older versions.

Last time I checked there was not a "1.6 based tablet" and "no name" obviously you haven't heard, Android is out selling the Apple OS. And dont give me that apple os runs on one phone crap, thats apples fault. Point is Android is not a no name OS and no Android device being manufactured runs 1.6, and no tablet has ever ran 1.6.

I got my 15-year-old the ipod touch for her birthday. As far as I can tell, she rarely uses it to listen to music. As she and her sister say, "You get a Touch for the Aps, not for music."
