VERY frustrating and thinking this piece of garbage may end up in a garage sale if it doesn't get to working right soon.
Have you tried over at Mobile Read to see if they have an answer. They are supporting the EE(10" eDGe) and the PE(Pocket eDGe). There is a much larger group of contributors there with a broader knowledge base. Registration is free. There is a Pocket eDGe forum you can search. Also enTourage's "knowledge base", as it was called, was mirrored there before they closed their doors. Someone else already commented that it is a "wealth of information". I already found several answers myself.

I have sucessfully got past the registration step by using the inputs from the forum. I could browse the net sucessfully but could not play videos. It says "Sorry this video can not be played" Can you please advise on how to proceed on this.
THanks in advance

At this point it might be best to take these issues over to Mobile Read. I believe the community over there is more knowledgeable in this area. A number of us have been hanging around here to help get everyone started. To get past the registration issues and even get the upgrade installed.
You can register for free. They also have a mirror of enTourage's knowledge base they obtained prior to their shutting down. You can also search the Pocket eDGe forum there, it may already contain your answer.

Sorry. Not mad - just tired. Only 3 hours sleep last night and it got the better of me. Usually counting to 10 helps. After the same question for the nth time I let it get to me. Again, sorry.

shoelessjoeinjackson wrote:Hello, folks. Thanks for the very helpful information that has been posted here. I am curious if anyone else has experienced the issue I am having with my PE.
I received it Saturday, charged it for several hours, played with it for an hour, closed it up, plugged it up, and went to bed. Sunday morning I was greeted by a blank LED screen and the unit will not wake up (from hibernation, I suppose, after having closed it up the prior evening). The green LED is lit showing it should be powered on. I have reset it a >10 times using a paper clip.
This is a heartbreaker. Anyone else in this camp?
You haven't said what is going on, on the reader side. Depressing the reset switch is just like doing a reboot. The reader should flash several times displaying initializing... When it completes the reader should show the X image along with Pocket eDGe, with lines that start with Read - Write and Surf under that. This would indicate that it rebooted. Can you confirm that this is happening? This would give us a better idea of the health of your PE.

Someone else a while back had mentioned that their screen had a loose connection, too, that might be an issue.
I haven't gotten my PE yet, but I've been following this forum since I ordered it, and Friartek has been a friggin superhero with the question answering. Plus he has an awesome name.
Patience people! You bought it because it was inexpensive! I say if you have to do a little reading and ask a couple of questions to get your gadget working, that's well worth the money you didn't spend buying it new.
Unless yours is bricked. Then you have my condolences. Sucks, dude.
Is there anyone moderating this discussion that could insert a comment up above the first comment with the most useful links? Might cut down on a little of the "Hey, I'm stuck at registration" stuff. Certainly complaining about it isn't going to help, as it would require people to read the discussion before posting, which is kind of the problem to begin with.
F**K. Even in the future nothin' works.

I like the idea, but what if in front of the "+ add a comment" button was a button that said something like "valuable comments, a must read"(open to discussion) that would be linked to that first comment. Also if it was a special color to make it more noticeable. You would think it would require a minimal change to do something like that. We could also take this over to the "world of woot" discussion so every one could discuss it. Also the staff is more likely to see it there.

My PE has been sitting in the post office 1 mile from where I live since saturday....it will probably be delivered today, 1 day ahead of schedule but sitting around waiting all weekend was driving me CRAZY...
I hope I get a good one after all this....starting to worry after reading all these posts. Does anyone know how many of these were sold by Woot?
Page 1 of this discussion, the very top of the page, shows all the stats. I know it doesn't feel like it when your the one that got one that is bad, but with the number sold and the number of reported hardware/not new issues that I've seen here; the odds of getting a bad one are very slim. I hope that holds true for the rest of you awaiting delivery.

The reader screen looks as you described (logo, Read, Write, and Surf). But there is nothing going on with the Android tablet screen--it's blank. When I press the reset switch, there is no flashing of either screen. The reader just turns off (the power light goes off).
No, something did happen. Your have to remember that in order for the reader side to change, the system has to change it. If the power just went off the reader would remain exactly as it was. That is the way e-ink works. Under normal operation, before it goes into hibernation or turns off, the system displays a diagram of the reader with instructions or what to do to start it up from these states. These remain on the screen until the system changes them. When you first opened the box there was an image displayed on the reader side.
UPDATE: Oops.. Maybe I didn't get enough sleep again last night. I think I misread your information. Brain said the reader screen went blank, but that does not appear on second reading to be what you said. So ignore the above, but I still think it worth while to at least try charging the PE again. What do you have to loose - a little time and electricity?
If the power light is off, what happens if you try to power the PE back up. Also have you tried to charge the unit since you did the initial charge?
This is a shot in the dark, but the PEs have been reported to have an issue with the power connector. Even with the plug in, sometime it just doesn't sit quite right. The way you know if its charging would be to look at the LED. it should be flashing slowly, two seconds off and one second on(a full second, not just a quick flash). Fully charged it will be on solid. As I said a shot in the dark, but worth a try. BTW I have one that has a touchy power plug. An irritation that I find worth living with.

Actually a lot of the preemptive posts went unheeded. If you have a minute, would you take a look at a though that a couple of us had about this type of problem. It can be found in this post.
Thanks for your time.

Any suggestions? I think I got a lemon.

This procedure will break you out of "any" setup screen, even if the network is not available. Just remember that if there is a top bar displayed, the touch point at the top is under that bar, still in a counter clockwise direction. Even if it doesn't work the first time, try it again - slowly making contact for up to a second. My testing would indicate that the procedure resets itself each time you touch the upper left position.

Here I was thinking since it arrived at their facility Friday evening, they'd just be shut down for the weekend and start moving stuff again when Monday came... so much for that.
I wouldn't blame FedEx to much. From personal experience of at least 20 SmartPost deliveries, it is most likely the USPS where most of the issues lie.
After I see that my package has left the my closest FedEx SmartPost center the rest is a crap shoot. Also the updates tend to be slow from USPS. Mine go through a USPS hub before it comes to my local post office. It sometimes sits at the hub for days before moving on. Sometimes I get the package before the post office does any updates. Other times I see it at the local post office and delivered before the hub does there update to the status.
As I said - a crap shoot. I do have to say most make it to me by the estimated delivery date(knock on wood).

I assume both of you mean you can't get through the registration process. No one has reported being stuck at the time section before. If that is the case, I would have to say you are not connected to the network.
You still need to break out of the registration process on matter where it is hung.
You should read this previous post.
It would also be helpful to you to read through these discussions. There have been many posts in it answering this and other questions, including how to obtain the file necessary to upgrade your PE along with the instructions.
