so I got this thing a while ago and just now have had the opportunity to unwrap it and start playing with it. I have been able to bypass the set up as per information found here, and it's fine except that everytime I try to connect to a wi-fi network I get the same message: "unable to start wi-fi"; in other words, as a "tablet pc" it's kind of "of little to no use" for me. Anyone had this problem occur and/or any hints on how to bypass this issue? Thanks in advance.

You should go to MobileRead to address your issues, as no one is actively watching this discussion any more.

There could be any number of things that could cause this issue. The PE is a b/g band WiFi device. If your network is set up for the N band only, your PE will not be able to connect. This is just one of any number of things. I would start by going to the PE's home window and click on Settings -> Network controls -> Wi-Fi settings. If Wi-Fi is not turned on, click on the box. The PE will scan for available networks. Find your network and check to see if it is connected. If not click on it, and enter any information it may ask for(password/key).

If you did not find your network in the list, then make sure your router is configured to support the PE.

If you still cannot connect, check for any messages that may direct you in the right direction to correct your issue.

As I said, MobileRead is a good place to start.

Helpful hints -- a good place to start.

I'm re-posting this here in hopes it will be close enough to the end of this discussion that anyone new coming here will find it and have a place to start.

At this point in time, I would suggest if you have any questions, that you post them on the Pocket eDGe forum over at MobileRead; as this discussion is not being actively watched.

Woot sales of the enTourage Pocket eDGe Dualbook were held on May 4, 2011; June 29, 2011, September 9, 2011 and January 19, 2012(Woot! Off).

The following links will take you to page one of the discussion for each sale.
The May 4, 2011 discussion.
The June 29, 2011 discussion.
The September 9, 2011 discussion(this discussion).
The January 18, 2012(Woot Off) discussion.

These discussions; especially from September 9, 2011; contain a wealth of info to get you started with the PE(Pocket eDGe). The following contains a list of links, to posts, that will get you started. It will tell you how to break out of the registration process and upgrade to Android 2.2 among other things. It is worth your time to look through these discussions, there is considerably more
info in those posts.

Fellow Pocket eDGe owners:

I am so, so, so sorry to lose my eDGe, but this morning mine fell prey to the dreaded White Screen of Death.

So that others may (hopefully) avoid the same fate, here's the only advice I've gleaned that may help:
-if you start having a white screen at all, in order to avoid the final white screen of death, downgrade immediately to the Golden Update
-try to avoid movies, flash, or any other graphics-intensive uses when possible; the problem most likely lies with a fault-prone GPU that overheats and finally totally fails (this is also the reason to downgrade from the most recent beta versions of Android)
-others have advised installing and running specific apps to root and remove cluttering apps -- more info can be found in the MobileRead forums; these accounts are anecdotal
-in some cases the users noted their pocket edge becoming hot; extended use of the LCD screen may be a contributing factor

I hope this helps even one person to get a little longer lifespan out of a great if trouble-prone device.

Apparently the only known fix to the problem is a motherboard replacement. Some have speculated that replacing a chip or the LCD ribbon cable (an alternative theoretical culprit) may solve the problem, but to my knowledge no user-attempted hardware repairs have succeeded. When Entourage was still solvent they apparently were able to have the motherboards replaced by a Foxconn repair facility.

Since my device is still under Woot's limited 90 day warranty (if only barely), I'm applying for a return under warranty. If I weren't under warranty, I'd at least try to effect a hardware fix short of replacing the motherboard. As it is, I will likely be moving on to a modded color Nook or Nook tablet.

I ordered a Pocket edge several months ago and just started trying to set up for xmas present the past week or two. Hangs up on initialization and the 4 dots, have reset a dozen or more times and tried the four corners. Nothing works, is there a hard boot option other than the reset button?

I tried this upgrade and it works and I even tried to revert back to 1.6 and it worked as well. And now the disclaimer; You undertake this adventure on your own and at your own risk, if none of these procedures work all I can offer to you have my most sincerest sympathies.
If the LCD screen has not gone into what is referred to on most blogs as the white screen of death the following might help.
Go to this site; http://bellybuttonporn.com/wp/2011/10/05/entourage-pocket-edge-google-apps-market/
There is a procedure for up-grading your Pocket Edge to Andriod 2.2, but it also contains a procedure to revert back to Android 1.6. Try the reverting back to Android 1.6 first, if that works you can try the up-grade.

I have two Pocket Edge devices and I have had very little trouble with either, that is until recently. The LCD screen on one of them died. I am looking for parts; so if you have a dead Pocket Edge that you no longer want let me know and maybe we can make a deal.

I do not know if anyone wrote about this before or not but I just added 32g of memory to my Pocket Edge. I have tried a few different micro SD memory cards in my Pocket Edge with both good and bad results. What I found was that many of the newer SD cards do not work and the only reason that I can figure is the spped of the SD card. On the SD Card there is a large letter C with a number inside. The number is the Class which refers to the speed of the device. any thing over 4 does not work or work properly. I purchased a 32 g, Class 2. I formatted the device and after formatting it reads well over 29g. Just thought you might like to know

entourage is out of business thus the registeration and store will not work. However, do not despair as the registration screen can be bypassed and ebooks can be purchased in numerous places. The registration bypass is in one of the links in this thread and at the mobileread forum in my signature.
