Thanks, ThunderThighs. The description makes it seem so -- "Lifetime Traffic & Map Updates (US, Canada & Mexico only)" -- but it would definitely be good to be sure.

Simply speaking from a pricing standpoint, I've seen these go from around $140 and up, so this seems like an excellent deal.

In the description "Lifetime Traffic & Map Updates (US, Canada & Mexico only)" is probably wrong, the model number does not indicate the "TM".

Woot, how about clarification?

I agree..without the TM at the end end or the 550 It's a gamble what you end up with ...

Confused!

So, does it have lifetime updates or 30 day?

From the description:
Map Share™ On-Demand Updates give you the ability to update your own map instantly or download verified updates from other drivers; update your TomTom daily or whenever you wish

Latest Map Guarantee: When you start using your TomTom, if a newer map release is available you can download one complimentary update to your map within 30 days from the time you first start using your TomTom device (Latest Map Guarantee is available via TomTom HOME)

Also curious to know whether the lifetime maps are included but still in for 1 anyway. Price is decent and I have just officially started my Christmas shopping!

Because of phones? I don't have a car so I don't need this but I think if I did, it'd be nicer to have something that's always in my car instead of having to connect my phone to a dock and wire every time I got in (since I know the GPS on my phone eats more battery than anything else).

even with the 30 day, how do you get those updates? i just picked up 3 of the tomtom ease's last week and when i load tomtom home, it tells me my device is past the time period to be eligible for updates! that's one of the main reasons i bought them!!

if this one has lifetime maps...and it can be confirmed, i'd definitely be in for at least 1 unit.

Need a definitive answer from Woot -- does this one include Lifetime Maps, as stated in the description, or not (as implied by the model number, lacking the M)?

That's a deal-maker or breaker. Thanks!

I have to laugh every time people say "But I can do this with my phone!" I prefer to have the dedicated unit, because if you're using your phone as a GPS and get a phone call (and use your handsfree, of course), you lose your GPS for the duration of the call.

I've used my smartphone's GPS function in a pinch -- usually when I've forgotten my TomTom at home -- but I really prefer having the dedicated GPS unit.

Besides, my phone's usually streaming Pandora when I'm driving (I connect it to my car's cassette player with an adapter), so I can't have it stream the tunes *and* give me directions at the same time.

Again, Woot, if it's got lifetime traffic and maps, this is a definite yes!

IF your model is supported, you go to their site, download 'My Tom Tom' ( I think that's it!) and then you look through all the options...fun things, like changing the pictures when turning the unit on and off, voices (but...only certain voices will actually give you the turn-by-turn commands, etc, so be careful. You can always delete what you don't like, what won't work for you.

Purchased one. Best buy's price was

Sale: $124.99 Reg. Price: $169.99 You Save: $45.00
•On Sale
•Save $15: Find Out How
•Free Shipping

Plus tax of course. For $60 shipped here, they can keep it. I have no problems with any CS except for Sony's. I always get my issues taken care of. There are ways of handling retail customer service. I'm not in my 20's anymore so I learned how to work them. ;)

Best buys ratings varied from one 1 star to one 5 star with one of each, 3 & 4 stars in the middle of only 4 ratings. They averaged at 3 stars but I don't take satellite complaints seriously. ALL satelite run items of mine are having problems for close to a year including all of my vehicles with Sirrius Sat Radio. It's the Sat's connection, not the GPS unit or Bose stereos in the vehicles. It s--ks but nothing we can do until the weather calms down. If it does.

So if I order one based on the description that says "Lifetime Maps" and then you come in the morning and say it doesn't, can I cancel my order?

For the other questioners, the free lifetime map feature is different from both the 30-day map guarantee and the Map Share (user-provided map updates), both of which are standard with all TomTom units.

The Lifetime Maps consists of a code inside the box that entitles you to a complete NEW map set, issued by TomTom, every 3-months or so. So, its inclusion is a big deal.

Does anyone from Woot monitor this message board and can they provide an official answer? Thanks.

Absolutely. Usually, service will send out an email to people that have already ordered when there is a sale correction.

With the Garmin my girlfriend had it was just using a computer to put a few files in specific folders. Google gave me the directions I needed to do so. I'm not sure about the TomTom, but I'm guessing it's similar. Google something like "Custom Icon TomTom" and you'll probably end up in the rightish area.

Edit: I did a quick google and it looks a little more complicated... Plus I'm not seeing many cool or interesting free icons... The TomTom Home app may solve this issue (for a fee I'm sure...) but until I have the unit in my hands I can't say for sure... Sorry.

Unfortunately not. Someone from sales/purchasing is going to have to get their hands on the actual product and the PO to verify this.

I apologize but it looks like it will be first thing in the morning for clarification.

I ran into the same situation with the TomTom Ease -- tried to get the latest map and it said it was past the time period. I called TomTom, explained I had a refurb from Woot, and the guy hooked me up with the free map update within minutes.

OK, I'm looking on the TomTom Website.

http://www.tomtom.com/en_us/products/car-navigation/xxl-550-series/?gclid=CKf5ydKJoasCFYNM4Aodo3CTlw#tab:benefits

Here's what it says:

Lifetime Traffic & Map Updates*

Enjoy a lifetime of easy driving with two great features from TomTom. Lifetime Map Updates guarantees you receive four new editions of your TomTom map each year to ensure that you are always navigating with the industry’s most up-to-date map. And, Lifetime Traffic Updates automatically sends real-time updates to your TomTom, so you can steer clear of traffic delays and take the fastest route possible to your destination. *Applies to maps of US, Canada & Mexico only. You receive non-transferable traffic data and up to four non-transferable map data updates per year until the product’s useful life expires or TomTom no longer receives map or traffic updates from its suppliers, whichever is shorter. Details and terms at www.tomtom.com/legal. Lifetime Traffic updates are available in the US and Canada only.

---------

Looks like it includes four map updates per year, for the "product's useful life," whatever that means.

That's one of the reasons I'm in for 1.

'Mine also said a newer map was available and listed a price. However, in the Home software, I went under the Tools menu item and selected "Use Latest Map Guarantee". It then told me a newer map was available, and allowed me to download and install it for free.'

I saved that for when mine arrives. It will put a built in and portable in the Lexus but I can't stand the built in. It doesn't list street names most of the time.
