Amazon is cheaper than Wal*Mart and Staples if you get the free shipping. It's $14.99 at Staples, but I had $6.00 in ink rewards.

When I was using my Creative Zen years ago, someone at work gave me a little Nintendo sock thing that was for the gameboy. That thing was perfect and hugged the device tight and was pretty much a small, square, short sock.

I will literally go buy something silly like an argyle sock if I can't find something similar to that Nintendo sock to slip this into.

Will a screen covers noticeably impact the electrostatic detection?

Is it worth 20% for a 3 year warrantee, when future devices may have better specs and OS?

Is it worth going case-less, waiting for a $30 aluminum case like this (I'm not from pdair):
http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=33047

I think the screen covers will be quite fine. I had mine in a plastic bag while playing with it at work. It had no trouble with detection through the bag.

Got this largely for my commute, but I'd rather not have to stick it in a pocket. That kind of case would let me just slip it in my bag without worry.

Did you find this case. Looking for it if you come across any

That case looks like the cover that came with my Palm TX.

In the way that it functions anyway.

I hadn't tried. Just did. It updated and continued. Then asked me my country and to accept terms for a second time. Then it opened.

Think there's anything worthwhile in there? Nothing special that I see yet.

Did you try scrolling up on that screen? Mine started on British time; had to go up for the negative zones. We're in the negatives, you know. I'm in -7 UTC when "saving daylight".

Hmmm.....I did try that yesterday, and it only gave me the 'pluses.' But I just checked it again, after your suggestion, and it is showing a Lot more timezones! Maybe it hadn't quite gotten its bearings yet?! All is well.
Thanks!

If people are looking for a case, this is almost the same size as a Nintendo DSi. I have put mine in a spare DSi case i had.

Looks like you'll be getting the one for the Korean version with the HDMI port and antenna cutouts.

i loved the sock that original zune came with, perfect case/protection, snug, never needed anything else for it. all electronics with screes should have something like that out of the factory.

Thanks for another review. One bit of info sprang out: "non-removable back cover." Does that mean the battery is not replaceable unless you send it in, either to Samsung or some other repair place (or if you're lucky and are handy/have tools)?

Yeah, mine's been "Out for Delivery" for 2 days now. I called the post office and they said that since it is Package Services, it is not as high a priority as other mail, and it can take a couple of days longer. They scan it when it's sorted, but it doesn't necessarily go on the delivery vehicle when it's scanned.

My device arrived in Pennsylvania today, delivered by the mailman on the day projected when it left Texas on September 20.

I notice that my shipment contains a quick start guide, but not a user manual. There is a 116 page user manual which is available online.

Link to EU version of User Manual.

There is also a Hong Kong (HK) version of the user manual available online.

Last time this happened with a package I asked if I could pick it up, and they said that the trucks weren't loaded at the post office, but at another facility? They are not real helpful here.

Hi All,

I am still waiting for this device to be delivered. It is taking forever! LOL

Anyway, if you are looking for a cell phone instead of this PMP, you might have already heard of Samsung Galaxy S2. Amazon/Wireless has a great deal going on for this device on Sprint network. The cell phone is called Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch. Amazon/Wireless is offering this phone for $150 on a two-year contract (of course) plus free activation (ends tonight 11:59 p.m. PDT September 26, 2011).

Not too bad of a deal. Here is the link to the deal. You can find out all the info on that page.

http://wireless.amazon.com/Samsung-Epic-Touch-Android-Sprint/dp/B005LHN47S/ref=sh_br_ph_3?ie=UTF8&transaction=INDIVIDUAL_NEW&sr=2-3-entd&qid=1317064950142

Personally, Sprint's lowest priced ($80/mon) voice/data plan is too much for me. I don't see myself committing to plan for two years. Perhaps, it might work out for you.

Mine was a pleasant surprise. The tracking showed that it was handed off from Fedex to USPS at 7:45am today with the note: "Arrived at local Post Office - Allow one to two additional days for delivery". It arrived in the mail about noon today, which is a day sooner than scheduled.

Got mine today. It was at my post office this morning, and I live in a small town so I guess they had no problem delivering on a Monday (or I have a nice carrier). I have to think Monday is the busiest day for the PO. In any case, I'm very pleased with what little I've explored behind the plastic screen cover with a few logos on it. I'm afraid to unpeel it and use the glass because the plastic is already full of fingerprints from playing with it for an hour as it charges. I don't want to scratch the glass so I'm wary about removing it before getting a regular screen protector.

The sound quality is fantastic. The external speakers are louder than the underpowered ones on my laptop. With Koss over-the-ear earphones (cheap ones, about $15, but better than $5 earbuds like the included ones), the sound is amazing for an MP3 player. It's worth it just for a media player that plays music and video. The camera is somewhere between my regular camera and my cell phone, quality wise, from a few pics I took out the window. The internet browsing I've done so far has been quick. The GPS is working out of the box and better and faster than my Garmin in terms of loading. I may just sell or give away my Garmin if I can find a good app for offline navigating. The FM radio sounds great, too, though it takes awhile to find stations. The market has downloaded a couple of apps very quickly, no problems there. I'm very happy and I've barely used it so far.

Is the usb cable proprietary? I was only able to get the device recognized with the Kies software when I used the included cable, not with my generic micro usb cable

US release has just been announced. Both the 4 & 5 inch versions should be shipping October 16th for $229 & $269 respectively.

Engadget mentions Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, so will we be getting the upgrade as well, or is this some strange version that Samsung won't be supporting?

Download Kies. If there is an official Samsung update it will be through that:

http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobilesoftwaremanual/mobilesoftwaremanual.do?page=MOBILE.SOFTWARE.MANUAL

Reports are saying the same device will be available to the USA masses in early to mid October with Gingerbread installed for a $100 bucks more.

If it does come out I'd say it would be around that time or earlier.

It seems we do have a strange version, since in that article, it's called the Galaxy Player, whereas our is the Galaxy S Wifi. But hopefully we'll get the upgrade. How much does it really matter if we don't?

And some more comments from me. The camera app sucks. I tried shooting a business card and it didn't focus at all. But I have another app that took a beautiful shot of it, so the camera is fine and just needs an alternative app.

Also, they've done something to the screen. My other three tablets were always covered in fingerprints. This isn't, and if it has any, a quick wipe across a T-shirt clears it off. It's like it's got Rain-X on it. It's great.

[quote postid="4647401" user="foglesre"]I worked with the GrooveIP developer to get this issue worked out. It was a problem with the way this device handles a cheek hangup toggle in Android. The test version he sent is working perfectly now. The change will be rolled into the next release./quote]

I e-mail them and they sent me a app file that solved that problem, but I still have a problem with incoming calls. Asks me to press 1 to take the call, but the box in settings is checked for that not to happen. Plus if I do press 1 the call connects, but the person on the other end can't hear me.

Good pick-up. I'm so used to seeing the two different names that the fact flew right past me. Someone else mentioned the conspicuous absence of any mention of GPS in the US Galaxy Player announcements, which I also find interesting. I'd love to know what truck these fell off.

As for the OS difference, I really don't know how much of a difference it would make (not being a current Android user), but my inner nerd is always a bit hurt when I can't get the newest software. Hoping it's not all that important.

On the other hand, I suspect a US release increases the likelihood of aftermarket ROMs being available somewhere down the line, which seems like a good thing.
