Anyone else have problem with screen protector size? The screen protector I have is sized for a device with a total size of 5" diag while our device has a 6" diag front screen. The Galaxy S WIFI has a 5" "viewable screen". Re-ordered from another vendor - hope I don't have the same experience again.

Called for tech support through Samsung they have no idea about this product. The issue I am having right out of the gate is I need to change the language setting to english, so I will be able to understand what to do. Not sure where to go what to do, and lets just say the owner's manual ain't much help either. Product looks great but if I can't use it whats the point.

What language is it on?

You must find the app with the Icon of the Blue Gear click it and a list of options will appear.
Go down to the 9th line, the one with the icon with the A keyboard key.Click it and another list with 3 options will apear.
Select the first line and you will get the list of languages.

It says it's compatable and then it downloads and Tom comes up but it will pur and then go back to the open or uninstall screen. Tried the talking donkey app just to see and it works fine. Gotta have Tom for nephew. lol (Used Tom 1 and Tom 2 Free versions)

I figured that there'd be no support from Samsung or any warranty because the listing said one year warranty from Woot. These are definitely gray market, though the price is great (probably why the price is great). So, Woot should either repair, replace, or refund for that one year period if you have a problem with it.

What I'm wondering, though, is will these particular models ever be updated via Kies? Since Kies communicates with Samsung, I'm wondering if Samsung would block these from having the operating system updated. I'm also afraid of even attempting the rooting thing until I know for sure whether the OS will get an upgrade (to at least 2.3, if not IC Sandwich, I'm not sure the hardware will support the latter).

I just turned off call screening in the Google Voice, but it still asks me to press 1 to take the call and when I do the call connect, but the other person can't hear me.

Is there any confirmation at all about if we will be able to upgrade to Gingerbread? I'm assuming we will be able to upgrade firmware when the US version ships. Am I being naive? I really hope we can eventually upgrade, it worries me that this product will not be supported.

Also, I got the Skinomi screen protector, why does it say to wait 2 days after applying it to power on the device? Is this completely necessary?

The Skinomi installation process involves (at least slightly) wetting the device. If significant amounts of this moisture seeps into the internal electronics, powering the unit up while it is still wet inside could cause serious damage. The two day wait will allow things to dry out thoroughly. If you are impatient, think about how wet you got the device and how willing you are to risk frying it. I let mine dry over night after applying the Skinomi and turned it on the next day. This was several days ago and mine seems fine. Your mileage may vary!

Thank you! I rec'd my Galaxy today and on schedule. It's beautiful and surprisingly light weighted. Given its size advantage over iPod Touch 4th, I would assume it is a bit heavier. It's not the case at all. Anyway, thank you for this awesome offer.

All:

How long does it take to full charge this device from empty? Three hours?

Thought I'd chime in with my experience. My Galaxy S 5.0 came with German as the default language. It took some googling for the manual to figure out how to get it to display in English. I guess this confirms what everyone else is saying - it's likely gray market stock being sold, or at the very least, non-US. The initial charge took more than 3 hours for me. As for the hardware itself - very responsive. The wifi worked beautifully and the screen is only slightly darker than the iphone retina display. Putting it side by side with my iphone 3g and I realize Apple might have a case to sue.. the two have eerily similar form and packaging. Charge seems to hold up well, as expected from a 2500mh battery. Speakers are, well, tiny and weak. Camera is not particularly receptive to poor light conditions, but is good enough for the occasional use with a strong overhead light. Speaking of the camera, they didn't recess the module. So when you set down the device, the camera glass is contacting the surface beneath it, a bad design choice, and it means a full case is probably a better idea than a skin. The processor seems well suited for running even the most resource hogging android apps, just don't expect it to bear the weight of multiple apps well, as others have said.
Overall, a solid device. It doesn't stand out in any particular area, ie, it doesn't have the ability to dominate a segment. But it's versatile enough for a niche product.

Good for: Weekend trips when you want to travel light. Home remote/picture/audio player. Casual gaming. Avoiding cell charges as a voip device. Anything you might use your phone to do that benefits from a bigger screen and battery.

Not good for: It's not a phone. It's not a tablet. It won't replace a dedicated camera. It's not a kindle fire, but it's in the same price segment.

As for the Skinomi skin - which is made from the same material as 3M car decals... The corners are a REAL pain to get straight - you'll NEED a good hair dryer to iron on the skin. The clear screen protector was far easier to attach. it's been about a day and most of the streaking and bubbles are gone, with only 1 tiny bubble left to clear up. It does feel a bit more tacky than the glass though, so be prepared for finger fatigue if you're using the protector on a dexterous game.

I've been on mine for most of the last two days and compared to my ipod touch 2nd gen it rocks!
However the GPS has not worked at all. At first I thought it was working, but alas it was using my network to determine an approximate location. Tried all the settings I can find to tweak and GPS will not function... has the little blinking satalite icon but never connects.
Please fellow wooters chime in with your GPS experience on this unit. Overall very happy but we always want what we don't have... in my case its the GPS! Thanks in advance.

The navigation app take for ever to find the GPS sat. Google places find it a lot faster (no clue why) I use google places, type the address I want and done. The only bad thing is that if there is no wifi where you went, there is no map for the return directions.

Try Google places as a nav tool. It shares street view anyway and if you leave it running and start the Nav app, the Sat will stay connected. That's what worked for me at least.

I find GPS works, but is slower to lock in than I would like. Android Market has a free app called GPS test that lets you monitor the acquisition of satellite signals and such. That might help you troubleshoot. It does seem to lock better outside than in my living room.

Doesn't that need an internet connection to work right? Otherwise you need an offline program to match up the gps to a map if not connected.

One thing I used to do was use a program to automatically chop a podcast into 3 minute chunks. This usually helped me skip ad segments more easily. Toss the mess into a folder and go. It's been a while but MP3 splitter might've been the program I used. It's free.

I tried what you did but didn't use any programs. You don't have to "convert to podcast" as a podcast is just usually encoded as a file type that ends in .mp3 which your computer may or may not show you. Just like people talk about computer pictures as "jpegs" because the file type ends in .jpg or .jpeg

Once I had the Stern podcast, I connected the Galaxy with the USB cable, clicked the button for USB mass storage and dragged the file onto the sd card in the Galaxy. After a disconnect and waiting for the Galaxy to do it's media scan, the podcast played and paused fine with his picture as a background. What the purpose of running it through the mp3 tag program was, I don't understand as if someone provides you with a podcast, it is usually already tagged.

My GPS receiver took about two minutes the first time I used it, and since then it takes from 20-60 seconds, depending on whether I am indoors. I use a program called GPS Status. It has a bunch of nice details beyond the basic location as well. Right now, I have the unit indoors and it is receiving 7 satellites (6 fixed) with a position error of 5 meters. The five meters is about right-it thinks I am in my kitchen or bedroom when I am in the living room.

Putting out another call to see if anyone else is getting random reboots and screen-off locks that need a reboot?

Really don't want to RMA this but the thing is useless if it's rebooting and wiping notifications every 15 minutes. It's so bad I've had it in my bag while at work and the battery as died it was rebooting/crashing so much.

I tried looking with catlog to see if there was some clue as to what was causing it but I'm nearing a factory reset to just see if it's a hardware issue.

And I'll second the question on whether we'll get the 2.3.5 update they're showing for the US models being released in a couple of weeks.

Mine hasn't. I don't think it's rebooted on itself at all, but I've seen other Androids do that.

I've had three tablets prior to this. In fact, the Galaxy Tab was the one I first noticed it on, but it wasn't unbearably often. I had that for two weeks and it did it maybe five times. I think my Asus did it once (in two weeks), gTablet I never saw it happen (multiple months).

Sorry about yours.

Thanks for the info but I did exactly what you said. It loads onto the sd card perfectly and comes up with the picture and plays and pauses like you said but if I pause and change screens and play something else, when I come back to it, it starts from the beginning again. My goal is to be able to pause and resume at a later time. These files are 4+ hours so I really need this feature that my zune had..help!!

My device seems to be working flawlessly. I got GrooveIP, and with the fix the developer came out with, the app works great. I can make and receive calls.

I'm currently in the process of downloading Sygic, a GPS app that downloads all the maps for offline use (since Google's GPS app requires a network data connection). I'll test it out and let you guys know how it turns out. If you're interested in trying it yourself, a working version of it can be found in the torrents.

Mine did this and I fixed it by powering off and back on. Haven't had the problem again since. I noticed the problem after installing skype, don't know if it was related, but skype calls would disconnect immediately, which was also fixed when I powered off and back on.

As soon as I disconnect the headset I have had to restart the device every time I want to use it. The integrated mic doesn't seem to function at all. I was hoping to use the voice commands more than phone calls.
