Thought I'd chime in with my experience. My Galaxy S 5.0 came with German as the default language. It took some googling for the manual to figure out how to get it to display in English. I guess this confirms what everyone else is saying - it's likely gray market stock being sold, or at the very least, non-US. The initial charge took more than 3 hours for me. As for the hardware itself - very responsive. The wifi worked beautifully and the screen is only slightly darker than the iphone retina display. Putting it side by side with my iphone 3g and I realize Apple might have a case to sue.. the two have eerily similar form and packaging. Charge seems to hold up well, as expected from a 2500mh battery. Speakers are, well, tiny and weak. Camera is not particularly receptive to poor light conditions, but is good enough for the occasional use with a strong overhead light. Speaking of the camera, they didn't recess the module. So when you set down the device, the camera glass is contacting the surface beneath it, a bad design choice, and it means a full case is probably a better idea than a skin. The processor seems well suited for running even the most resource hogging android apps, just don't expect it to bear the weight of multiple apps well, as others have said.
Overall, a solid device. It doesn't stand out in any particular area, ie, it doesn't have the ability to dominate a segment. But it's versatile enough for a niche product.
Good for: Weekend trips when you want to travel light. Home remote/picture/audio player. Casual gaming. Avoiding cell charges as a voip device. Anything you might use your phone to do that benefits from a bigger screen and battery.
Not good for: It's not a phone. It's not a tablet. It won't replace a dedicated camera. It's not a kindle fire, but it's in the same price segment.
As for the Skinomi skin - which is made from the same material as 3M car decals... The corners are a REAL pain to get straight - you'll NEED a good hair dryer to iron on the skin. The clear screen protector was far easier to attach. it's been about a day and most of the streaking and bubbles are gone, with only 1 tiny bubble left to clear up. It does feel a bit more tacky than the glass though, so be prepared for finger fatigue if you're using the protector on a dexterous game.
