I bought a couple of cheap screen protectors for my Archos tablet and they each lasted a month, 1 got a nice size scratch from a my keys that were in a pocket with it, the other one got a lot of little scratches. They at least performed their function of protecting the screen. I got a Skinomi screen protector for it and it has had it on for roughly 9 months and still looks as good as the day I put it on. It does have a hair and a couple specks of dust under it but that is what I get for not putting it on in a clean area. My Skinomi on my Samsung Galaxy I took better precautions when putting it on so it looks good, can't even tell there is a screen protector on it unless you look closely. They are more expensive but I think they are worth the price compared to going through multiple cheap protectors.

I just wanted to thank you all for all the help and tips you have provided.

The gps was driving me crazy, as I could not get the satelites to find the signal. Downloaded the "GPS Status" app and within minutes, 7 satelites had a signal.

I was also unsure of which case to get but after reading thorugh all these posts, I decided on the ebay $4.99 for 2 deal.

This devices more than meets my needs. I wanted something portable, with wifi and decent battery life, that I could quickly use, instead of turning on my netbook and having to wait for it to boot and this is fitting the need perfectly.
Yes, it's an older processor, and only 8gb, but for my primary needs, which is web surfing, this thing is great.

I have given up on the Groove iP app. I couldn't get it so the other person could hear me when I accepted a call. I delete and reinstalled it and then any app that recorded my voice would not work. So I had to do a system restore to get the voice recording apps working again. Too much trouble reinstalling all my apps if it screws things up again, so I'm not going to try installing Groove iP again. I have my cell phone with me all the time, so I really don't need it. Otherwise, the Galaxy WiFi works great. I like it so much that I bought my wife and daughter one off Ebay.

btw You guys rock! Within minutes of emailing you days ago requesting the update I was testing it.

I do have a problem with GrooVe IP however, the delay makes the app not practical. I've called a few people and although very clear, the delay was unbearable. I've tried on my home wifi as well as a tethered connection from my iPad with the same results. I remember reading on your website there was a compromise between choppiness and delay... maybe you should add some sort of slider into the app and let users choose their optimal setting. Otherwise I'm enjoying testing and can't wait for it to work perfectly

EDIT: OK I unchecked everything in the Troubleshooting section and now this app has no delay (except for that small delay on EVERY cell phone). I'm very happy now.

Now, can someone help me figure out how to make this thing "ring" when I receive a call?

I'm not sure if this has been addressed yet, but pages back I saw a post that someone said that you can't listen to the radio without headphones. Well, you can, but you have to plug the headphones in for the Galaxy to use as an antenna. There is a button to the left of the tuner that will let you listen to the external speaker, but you have to keep the headphones plugged in.

I have tried plugging in a small MP3 speaker, and although it does work, it's choppy. I'm assuming that the cable isn't long enough to serve as an antenna, or the speaker is interferring with the transmitter. Still experimenting, though!

Glad you figured out the delay issue. To get incoming calls you have to forward calls to google chat in your google voice account. Also, may want to check the ringtone override in the GrooVe IP settings. Since the device isn't really a phone the default ringtone may be silent.

tim74 wrote:I see the problem now. That's probably more a function of the program being used. If I fire the podcast directly from the file list but pause and then exit, the device treats the pause like a full stop of the player and exits the program when using the back or home button.

BUT if I use the music icon on the bottom of the player, use the search to find the podcast and run it that way, if I pause Stern I can still find the track in pause mode in the that pull down menu at the home screen screen where wifi and such can be turned on. It didn't seem to go away after running other programs.

Actually, sometimes the player wasn't listed in the pull down but if I used the music icon again, the podcast either came directly up or I could click the "now playing" button and the show would be paused where it was.

You might find other players on the android market that may be more flexible.

But as long as you fire up the player and select the track, that seems to work the way you want it though the player may unload it if it needs the memory and I'm sure if you play any other audio file that would close the podcast track.

Best bet prob would be to use a player from the market just to play those Stern files so that player could hold the pause for you while you use the built in player for other things.

Thank you...this did work for me..then i shut down and goodbye pause...but it does work when the unit sleeps. Would it hurt to never shut off completely? Just let it sleep?
My next problem...I have a kindle and I got the app for the galaxy. However, I have several books with an mbp file extension that are on my kindle but not synced with amazon..I manually put them on my kindle. I can put them on the galaxy but they show up in my files..and I can read them but not sync them to hold my last read page..ugh

Same here, so I switched to Skype, which I found to be very stable. There is a good deal on. You get a number for $2.50/month and unlimited $2.99/month to USA and Canada. I have forwarded Google voice number to Skype and it works as expected.
The only issue I am facing is low incoming volume. Though a workaround is to put it in speaker mode to hear clearly but I would like to have more volume in the ear piece. Does anyone knows how to increase the volume of voice calls?
I have a mifi plan so I am trying to replace my cell phone with it. Lets see how it goes.

Not a tablet person, but really liking my 5 so far, until this evening. Wi-Fi is not connecting. Signal is strong, it scans, it says "connecting", then says "disconnected".

Other Wi-Fi connected devices around the house are fine. I tried the obvious (re-boot, reconfigure Wi-Fi, etc., with no luck).

Any advice?

Thanks.

Go somewhere outside your house that has WiFi, like a neighbor's house or Starbucks or wherever and see if it will work. Otherwise, you may have a warranty claim. It sounds like you did everything possible such as rebooting and if your other Internet appliances work with your router, that's the next thing to check. If it does work outside of your house, then there might be either a router problem or interference.

Sounds like either a password problem if you are using one or the router is booting it off right away. I had trouble and received similar messages when I was putting in the wrong pass. Otherwise weak signals were my only other trouble.

Check your router log to see whats happening or go to Subway/Starbucks or wherever and see how it connects.

As a final alternative, consider doing a "Factory data reset". Perhaps an app changed something critical. Starting over may clear the issue.

I went hunting locally for a sock like cover like one I had from Nintendo that I used on a smaller MP3 player. Best Buy had the only two I found in the camera area but they weren't long enough and bit too snug. I don't need a drop case, just something to protect it from scuffs while hauling it around and setting it down or in my pocket.

There are lots of sock like things online but when I checked around at home I found a smaller slip case that came with a sleep mask. It works well since it has a small rope cinch at the opening with a bead to keep it closed. Fits well. I found another that also fits even better since it's not as wide but it doesn't have a bead to keep closed. But I can fix that.

So far I've backed off the live wallpaper since that seemed to burn up a lot of battery time in the statistics in Android Assistant.

The FM radio can get by without much trouble to work. You HAVE to have something plugged in for it to work at all (the app with turn off the power on the fake radio face with nothing plugged in) but all I did was plug a stereo to mono adapter in that I found in a drawer and it scanned in 12 clear channels that I listened to on the external speaker settings. Using a length of stereo wire 6 foot long got me a few extra stations and the 20 footer length got me 19 stations detected though I found more by manual tuning. But even with a teensie adapter in the hole, it picked up all the local strong stations just fine. Perhaps someone makes a radio app that ignores the status of whether something is plugged in. Might be possible to pick up stations without anything as the adapter I plugged in couldn't have added much of anything to just the regular FM waves hitting the player. There are a couple of rare apps for FM but I guess there isn't much as Google supposedly doesn't support FM. One app does some tricky stuff to actually get FM receiving from undocumented features on devices that don't even claim to get FM. Needs root access and some other ROM but seems to work for some. Too much work for me to see if the FM waves come through without my little adapter.

Has anyone found a desktop dock for this device. Noticed a good deal on a Samsung Galaxy Fascinate i500 Charging Desktop Cradle over on meritline, but, it looks like the "plug" to the dock isn't in the right place for our larger device. So far it looks like all of the Samsung phone docks will not fit our device. Nothing on Samsung site about accessories for the player.

After awhile of searching, I finally found where our version is from, it's 1 of 2 released versions for Central America/Caribbean. (see http://www.samsung.com/latin_en/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do?menu=SP00&prd_ia_cd=&prd_mdl_cd=YP-G70CW/TTT&prd_mdl_name=YP-G70CW&srchword=YP-G70CW%20%7C%20YP-G70CW/TTT ).

I'm completely fine with that honestly, and I much prefer the hard home button that this version has compared to the virtual home button the US release has. My only concern is that this release won't get upgraded to Gingerbread, since the front camera pretty much relies on that for many apps.

I'll keep you guys updated with what I find, about to email support now to ask about Gingerbread.

My Samsung WEP450 bluetooth headset will not pair with this device. I am finding some posts with respect to bluetooth compatibility issues with the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Bluetooth pairing issues with Galaxy Tab

This merchant claims the listed (and only the listed?) bluetooth devices are compatible with the Galaxy Tab.

Bluetooth devices compatible with Galaxy Tab

1. Is the Galaxy Tab the equivalent device for comparing with our Galaxy S WiFi? Is there a better benchmark device?

2. Is there a pairing problem with our device and various bluetooth headsets? If so, why?

3. Which brands of bluetooth headsets have been successfully paired by posters on this forum?
